OpTic, Immortals to SL i-League S2

OpTic and Immortals have secured the two Americas qualifier spots (beating Cloud 2-1 and Renegades 2-0, respectively) to the SL i-League StarSeries Season 2 Finals, taking place from September 7-11 in Nanjing, China.

The $300,000 SL i-League StarSeries Season 2 Finals, taking place in Nanjing, China from September 7-11, represent a $100,000 increase from the previous season whose finals in Minsk, Belarus in January of this year saw fnatic emerge victorious over Natus Vincere.

With the China qualifiers having already concluded, and the European qualifiers concluding only hours before (with Envy securing the final European spot), the North American evening saw the Americas qualifier bracket come to its apex, with both semifinals offering up spots to the $300,000 finals and no third place decider match unlike in the European qualifier.

tarik helped OpTic secure the first semifinal over Cloud9

The first semifinal was a North American face-off (with some Spanish seasoning thrown in) as Cloud9 took on OpTic, with both teams having recently effected roster changes as the former team brought in Timothy "autimatic" Ta from TSM and the latter team signed Tarik "tarik" Celik.

Despite Cloud9 having won both of their recent ESL Pro League Season 4 matches against OpTic the night before, Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert & co.'s map pick of Cache did not go according to plan as a neck and neck game eventually saw OpTic grind out the first map with a 16-14 score.

Cloud9 then demolished OpTic on their own map pick with a 16-6 scoreline but OpTic completed the upset by taking the decider map of Cobblestone 16-11 and thus became the second North American team to qualify for the SL i-League StarSeries S2 Finals (after Liquid who are an invitee).

The second semifinal was between two teams not from North America, as the Brazilians of Immortals and the Australians of Renegades competed for the second North American spot.

felps and the Immortals had no problem brushing aside Renegades in the second semifinal

Unlike the first semifinal however, the Immortals flattened Renegades on their map pick of Overpass with a 16-6 score and then ground out Cobblestone with a 16-10 win, with Justin "jks" Savage & co. only beginning to come alive towards the late end of the game.

The list of teams who will attend the SL i-League StarSeries Season 2 Finals is therefore:

Sweden fnatic France G2 World Natus Vincere United States Liquid
Denmark Astralis Poland Virtus.pro Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas Other TBA *
China VG.CyberZen China TYLOO Korea MVP Project Denmark Dignitas
Denmark X France Envy North America OpTic Brazil Immortals

*The remaining team to be announced for the SL i-League StarSeries Season 2 Finals is SK's replacement, as the Brazilian team had to withdraw due to fer's health issues, and this final team has not been announced yet.
