fxy0 comments on Valve ban

Former Epsilon and Millenium member Joey "fxy0" Schlosser has spoken out about his ban and called on Valve to issue him a reprieve.

The French player is suspended indefinitely from all Valve-sponsored events for his role in the match-fixing scandal that rocked his Epsilon team in 2014.

Joey "fxy0" Schlosser and three of his teammates were determined to have lost an ESEA match on purpose to profit from weapon skin betting on CSGOLounge.

After almost a year out of action, fxy0 linked up with Playing Ducks in July 2015, but just five months later he ended up joining French team Millenium, with whom he attended two ASUS ROG events over the course of this year.

fxy0 says lifetime bans are excessive

After learning at the start of the year that players involved in match-fixing would be banned from Valve's tournaments permanently, fxy0 sought legal advice and met with a representative of the esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC), an association established in 2015 that aims to tackle integrity challenges to esports.

According to a report from The Esports Observer, fxy0 offered Valve to make a $10,000 donation towards "good causes" from future tournament winnings and to participate in anti-corruption training by Sports Radar and ESIC. The player also issued a letter apologising to Valve for his behavior, to which the company allegedly never responded.

fxy0, who is currently without a team, has called on Valve to implement clear rules on match-fixing and to revoke the lifetime bans on the players that were determined to be involved in match fixing, which, in his opinion, are excessive.

"It is time to implement fair rules, to prevent and protect players from match fixing," he said.

"There are no rules in place, and I do not want anyone to be banned like I was.

"Of course I deserved a one-year ban but not the follow-up ban. It was disproportionate."

In this video apology, fxy0 sheds light on his actions and attempts to raise awareness of the consequences of match fixing in an effort to educate other players about the serious damages that it can cause.

well you implied that swag was young and was influenced by his team captains and elders dazed and steel, therefore valve should be leinant on him and harsh on those who corrupted him. i understand that i slightly exagerated what you said or even stretched it out of its context but my point is that there should be clear rules and they should be enforced equaly on everyone that disregards them regardless on how young/good/loved by fan he was.

I don't understand people like you If you were in this situation you would probably want to be given a second chance and it was an Unimportant match in a shitty league vs A team that was owned by the IBP guys and most likely were in on it too AND 2 years is a long time for such a low offense Like throwing 1 match for 100 bucks or something like that, the only people that Got fucked in that throw were the people who bet on 80% match with their stupid all ins

But then you had to unban dazed and steel as well. And well, issuing a one year ban and then extending it might not be the best move, but it's justified, since you cannot trust these individuals again to not throw, they can talk how much they want, but they've wasted their chance.

Why would they answer anyone? They already told everyone what they think about match fixing in their blog post. They said the bans are lifetime bans - they don't have to repeat themselves over and over again.

But when your consumers are wanting otherwise, there is a saying that "The customer is always right." There comes a time where you have to push your pride aside and accept when you are wrong. This works both ways, with Valve AND the match fixers. Valve shown how much they care about CSGO anyway so whatever.

vg247.com/2013/06/17/dota-2-team-receive.. They should answer to proplayers, just once in a while. I really think you would have a hard time to find an actual pro player, who wouldn't want the iBP players to get unbanned. They have done their time, for a crime there were no official rules against. What Valve should have done, was readdress the matchfixing issue after that year. They should've made a clear set of rules that describes the punishment - and should've allowed the players they had put on timeout to play again. What they did instead, was not make any official rules about matchfixing what so ever, they only really had a scapegoat in the iBP and Epsilon players. Apart from that they made their decision final - they are giving the hardest possible punishment, for a thing they've previously punished with 12 months and 36 months (iirc). Valve are a bunch of fucking retards, who really don't even know what the fuck they are doing. You can't retroactively give someone the hardest possible punishment, especially when they haven't even made official rules about this very issue. But then again, Valve has shown time and time again they don't care about CS, so they probably will never change anything about their approach to the game =)

I disagree. CSGO isn't in a better state than it is right now, because of these players being banned. If NA wouldve had a dreamteam, that could go on to be the best in the world, then it wouldve been bigger in US, this attracting more money from investors. I watch TI every year without playing the game, only because some of the players are from Denmark/sweden. People are willing to watch stuff they dont understand fully to support their countrymen. Lower level of NA CS = lower appeal to muricans = less viewers = less new players and investors.

Sorry but no one in the world wants to be associated to match fixing, you can go to jail. No fan, no company wants to be apart of the controversy, it doesn't matter how good you're and what potential you have you can't cheat the system and this is real life - second chances don't exist.

I am still a huge fan of them as players. Even though I think it's wrong what they did, I still do not actually think it's all that black and white. But the fact that companies wouldn't want to be affiliated with them, shouldn't matter too much. I'm sure they'd be able to pay for themselves etc.

Official rules? Arh - come on.... everybody with a moral compass knows that matchfixing and stealing from others (which this basically is) is wrong and illegal and will be punished if you get caught. These boys knew they were breaking the law here. However - I do agree that Valve should be clear on their sanctions if people are caught cheating or matchfixing.

I 100% agree that it's morally wrong, and they should've known better. However when you commit a crime, you know what the possible result of it could be. These guys only violated good moral - and thus they shouldn't be able to get the hardest possible punishment. Especially when Valve previously have dealt out 1 year bans or the same violation.
2016-09-12 17:05

They didn't only violate good moral. Matchfixing is actually illegal. Matchfixing is also pretty much the same as stealing money from innocent people. They probably didn't think of it that way, when they did it.... but when you drop a stone from a bridge and end up killing someone in a car, you're still responsible for that, eventhough you didn't think of the consequences at the time. I know it's a quite agressive comparison, but the principles are pretty much the same. Also - in Court you might get a diffent sentence for the same crime, depending on the circumstances. However - I do still agree that Valve should be more clear on their sanctions if people are caught cheating or matchfixing.

Since there has been no lawsuit again them, I would only assume that it would be Valve's rules that were applied. Valves rules have previously granted the famous "322" a one year ban - for doing exactly what iBP did. He threw for skins, iBP threw for skins. If we were to look at it as a real currency, which Valve strongly suggest that it's not, then they have to apply the same rules to all, instead of just using the iBP players as a scape goat. Either Valve has knowledge of a lot of matchfixing (which there is, every proplayer has said it goes way beyond iBP) - and want to make a clear example and let them take the fall for everyone, or they simply have a pisspoor amount of communication within Valve, when it comes to actually enforce rules.

people who think cheaters like that will be unbanned are deluding themselves, you can get the mindset of Gaben from how he tried to trick a hacker to come for a job interview just to put him to prison, I bet the idea to never unban people like that doesn't come from csgo devs but directly from Gaben

You guys are soo nice and cute. Valve did the right thing, and yes, if any BR player gets caught cheating/throwing, ban them forever too. People that do these things should be eradicated from the scene, once there are enough proves against them.

OK guys, imagine HUNDEN threw a match and got caught and banned. After a couple of years he goes public and says that yeah he threw that match, but it wasn't a great deal so Valve should unban him. What would you say to that? I bet you'd say "stay banned, don't throw if you wanna play". But since fxy0 was the 2nd best dedicated sniper in France, you somehow ask Valve to treat him in different way, i.e. to unban him, no matter he's guilty of that throw. You know, German CS suxx pretty much, the best German team has only 2 Germans in the lineup. May be Valve should also unban cLy and smn, because why not? Don't tell me that cheating is much worse than throwing, both things fuck up the results, but cheating makes you win, while throwing makes you lose. You can say the same about DaZeD, swag, steel, AZK - Valve should unban them just because NA scene suxx, so those players can make it better? It's enough to unban them, isn't it? Well, you wouldn't give a shit about bad players getting lifetime-banned for throwing, because they don't make any difference, so being a good player should give you preferences when it comes to breaking rules? LOL, just think about it, what do you actually ask Valve to do?!!! They should treat everyone the same, everyone is equal for the laws IRL, everyone should be equal for the rules in esports. fxy0 made his choice, he didn't care about his fans when he decided to throw, he cared only about himself, so why should we care about him now? I'd unban him in 5 years, but not earlier.

So he throws a game, wins around 60-100 euro from it and gets permabanned. Valve shut down all betting sites, so throwing would be much harder to accomplish currently. And yet refuse to look at the cases again. I agree it's really scummy to throw games for money but different punishments should be given for different scenarios. Swag's family had some serious financial problems and he was basically pressured into doing it and from what I've read fxy0 had gotten an Asiimov and some other shitty skins worth no more than $100.

Being honest here, even if there was no rule the fact that these people are adults should be enough for them to realise that throwing is definitely wrong. I agree that the absence of any rule means the wouldn't have known for how long they would be banned (if they even thought about that) which is pretty stupid as reVolvo should have thought about that at one point or another. For a company that is worth more than Ubisoft and EA they sure don't put many people to work on CS. I kinda feel bad for the CS department of Valve. Cs is one of the most bought games of the past 2 years yet they throw almost all the manpower and money into DOTA.

Yeah they were dumb and I agree with what you're saying. But there's more of a legal problem here than a moral one. That lady that sued McDonald's for spilling hot coffee on herself won that case because there was no sign on the coffee machine that read “hot” essentially. Not that she didn't know that, but her lawyers exploited that. And all because McDonald's didn't protect themselves. Did they think they needed a sign? No. Most people would assume that the coffee is hot and would be careful. But again, it's not a common sense or a moral factor, it's a legal one on McDonald's part. Same way with valve. Now, valve can do whatever they want. If they choose to ban someone forever it's their rules. However, those “rules” NEED to be clear from the beginning. Not an “as you go” type of thing. And tbh, the ban is excessive. They all deserve to be banned, but not for life.

It is not like they ban them in game, the pros who did that just can't play in VALVEs tournaments. It is up to Valve who they want to play in their tournaments and if they don't want that someone like that would participate in THEIR tournaments, then i am good with it. Also " That lady that sued McDonald's for spilling hot coffee on herself won that case because there was no sign on the coffee machine that read “hot” essentially." that's just retarded and should never happend.

They should unban iBuypower and Epsilon, Steel already said on Stream that he would do the same stuff fxy0 offered and i'm sure everybody who says that DaZed and Steel are toxic assholes will change his mind after watching same Interviews and the NetCodeGuides videos they are really good people. Of course they fucked up and did wrong but even a Dota team only got banned for 12 months after match fixing and iBuypower and Epsilon should get that second chance too.

Valve are lame for doing this. Seriously. Indefinite bans for match fixing is treated like the MLB gambling. It happens all the time and only a few are treated differently for it.

Yes permanent ban for few dollaros sounds very unreasonable. Of course if there would be rule that matchfixing = perma ban it would be okay. I doubt they would do it then though. Using that logic even Olof in boostpass could get perma ban.

Yes but you still understand my point. It is pretty weird that when they don't have some rule, they make them afterdwards and punish the persons who did some illegal before the rule existed as hard as they punish persons who did the same after creating the rule.

I know what your angle is, but I can't follow. I was in similar situation when my brother fucked something up, I felt sorry for him, but you have to accept it and the person who fucked up has to realize it as well, rules are rules. They should be same for everybody, doesn't matter if its your favourite player, family member or person you don't like. I understand tho, perma ban is kinda harsh, on the other hand I don't think that was the first time he threw.

"It is time to implement fair rules, to prevent and protect players from match fixing," he said. "There are no rules in place, and I do not want anyone to be banned like I was. Umm if players don't want to be banned for matchfixing, they need to not matchfix. It's that simple. putting "rules" in place would exacorbate the problem, not fix it. For example, if valve went with fxy0's la-dee-da fairies and sunshine punishment and said that matchfixers will be banned for 1 year, have to take "anti-corruption" classes, and imposed a $10,000 fine, then all it would take is an offer of about $50,000 to make it worth throwing the match. The fine would be covered, and the perpetrator would have a healthy 5 figures to take care of them while they took the year off to stream and chill. It's no pressure because they'd be allowed to compete again the very next year.

It's actually not that simple. Your argument is from an emotional/moral standpoint. His argument is from a legal standpoint. Whether something is “common sense” isn't a legal argument.

What i think: Should matchfixing be a permanent ban? Yes, this will let throwers think twice before doing so. Should the iBP/Epsilon players be permanently banned? No, this is from an era where no rules were made, even though people know throwing is bad, very bad. Even if there was no rule at the time of throwing incidents they should have known the consequences where extremely high. Imho the 1 year ban was enough. Now the rules are laid out, throwing is = permaban people will think twice before doing so. This is coming from a player who lost money in one of these matches, yes the bet was stupid but at the time ibp had a 99.9% win ratio in NA and overpay was still a thing on lounge as long as you maxxed out. Will valve change their mind, i highly doubt it. These guys better try and play another game or start looking for a job :).

Not only that you earn yourself skins, which are indeed worth real money, they are bought for real money too. But you also made innocent people who bet their hard earned money skins - to lose them. So damage of game integrity is completely ruined and ban for life is well deserved for stabbing all your fans with big machette in their back. May you be example of what to expect when future generation is even thinking about doing something like this. I repeat, you did this. You could say no. You know it wasn't right decision, stealing money from your own fans - People who fed you basically.

This guy and swag and co srsly need unbans. I mean even if valve want to show their power and keep those perma bans instead of 1year etc. those players need a second chance. Can't imagine any talented player who would throw a game ever for stupid skins when there is example from guys like dazed, fxy0, swag how they fucked up their careers and regret it every hour, every second. Unban talents for even greater cs.

It was dumb move from them, but i dont blame them. There should be rules/laws about punishments if somebody throws. Bans cant be same for iBP guys (who earnd +10k$) for throw, and for ex epsilon guys who got 50$ dollars skins, somebody even less. Like I said above, throws like this, when winning somebody will not change anything is happening in every sports every season. How many times we saw team who won their league few matches before, and after that they are not playing with best lineup, giving away points for teams who need? And opposite. Later, they send some players in those clubs on loan/sell them cheaper and everything is fine. 2 years was fine punishment, and at least valve can respond on this.

matchfixing is matchfixing, no matter if u win 10usd or 3m usd. lifetime ban is justified in my opinion. throwing =/= matchfixing.

"It is time to implement fair rules, to prevent and protect players from match fixing," he said. "There are no rules in place, and I do not want anyone to be banned like I was. "Of course I deserved a one-year ban but not the follow-up ban. It was disproportionate." WOW ANOTHER RETARD who can't use his brain..."mimimi I didn't know it was against the rules..." really? how fucking retarded do you have to be?? it's LOGIC. there has to be no fucking rule..it's common sense... I hope that douche stays banned for life

I think that two years is long enough to man realized his mistake steel, swag, fyx0 and etc they all understand this and want to pursue a career . and I can not understand why Valve does not want to meet them . Players stayed just 1 year in anticipation of the verdict and as a result they were given a lifetime ban #thank mr.google

Keep him banned and all others. If other teams should be punished for past action, ban them too. Plenty of legit players that deserve the support of the fans and community. For those that have done wrong, accept your punishment, stop whining and move on to something else. You had your chance and you chose wrong. You're an example. Get over it. You're probably still making thousands of dollars a month streaming so stop complaining. This game is still providing for your livelihood and you don't even deserve that.

"because there was no official rule" is not an acceptable excuse. "it didn't affect the outcome of the tournament" does not change the fact that you scammed people out of items that they may or may not have spent their money on. I'm not saying I agree with making the bans PERMANENT, but these are not the arguments to make when YOU messed up. Do not attack Valve when YOU messed up. They want an apology, not excuses and suggestions on how to run their business.

Everyone agreeing with the lifetime ban is a hypocrite, point blank. No one on this site is perfect. We've all made mistakes and we've all fucked up somewhere before. If you believe the lifetime ban is just then you must be a perfect fucking angel.

think about it for a second. If all players knew that they only got banned for a year, then they'd surely have an incentive to throw matches. Chances of getting caught is slim, profits can be insanely high and if you do get caught, you can be back after one year. Valve doesn't want to give any incentive to do such activities. Besides if cheating has a life time ban, why shouldn't match fixing?

The ban is excessive because that rule was not in place before all of this. If valve stated that matchfixing equals a permaban from the beginning then no one would be so eager to do it. NOW they have a permaban rule, which is fine because it's clearly stated for everyone.

I think it's not an excuse, people should realize that match fixing is a serious crime. In real sports people go to jail for this

There's no excuse for matchfixing just as there's no excuse for valve to not take implementing clear rules seriously just because it's a video game. They both fucked up. Valve fucked up legally, fxyo fucked up morally. Now they need to meet in the middle. This doesn't apply to anyone else now because there are clear rules in effect. It only applies to those before said rules were implemented.
