Sporting CP announce €1,750 cup

Sporting CP have announced that they will be hosting a series of CS:GO tournaments, the first of which with €1,750 in prize money.

Just weeks after venturing into esports with the signing of a FIFA player, Sporting CP, one of Portugal's biggest and most prestigious football clubs, have decided to take their first steps in the CS:GO scene with their own series of tournaments, through a partnership with ChallengeMe.GG.

Scheduled for December, the tournament will feature eight teams, all of whom determined by two online qualifiers open to 128 amateur sides. The winner of both qualifiers will also earn 150€, bringing the total prize purse to over €2,000.

Sporting CP to host CS:GO tournaments for amateur teams

To sign up for the first qualifier, which will take place on October 22, click here. The prize distribution for the main tournament looks as follows:

1. €1,000
2. €500
3. €250

Idk about that. But it's kind of obvious Sporting has much more money than Fnatic. It's just a matter of them being willing or not to spend it. Just this summer they sold Joao Mario for 45millions and Slimani for 30 milions. No cs players/team goes for this ammount

sure, but it doesn't change anything does it? 3 "big" clubs, 3 bankrupt clubs. My Setubal struggled a few years back, if it hadn't been for us (the fans) helping out he would've been closed. We (small teams) don't have this kind of helps from banks and shit. And the funny thing is, in the past 15 years, Setubal won the Taça da liga(the 1st one, that one that mattered unlike the bullshit cup it became) once, sporting won 2 taças de Portugal and 1 supercup. And let me assure you that our budget is more than 10 times lower.

the GDP per capita is $11,100.00 per capita, while in Portugal, that number is $22,900.00 per capita. In Serbia, you (on average) will live to approximately 75.02. In Portugal, the average life expectancy is 79.01. In Serbia, approximately 6.16 per 1000 infants die before they reach the age of one. In Portugal, on the other hand, there are a total of 4.48 deaths during infancy per 1000 people. BE 16.4% LESS LIKELY TO BE UNEMPLOYED

Well the prize is low but I think they're just testing how it goes since they dont have any experience regarding e-sports. It would be dumb and a bad move business wise to make your first tournment with 20/30/40k prize pool. If this does well you could expect some more money involved in the future, I personally think this is good since SCP is a major club here and may influence other major Portugese teams to the e-sports world.

This is basically a top 3 soccer team from Portugal (yeah, the country that rapes all the others internationaly) With around 2 million fans i guess. I'm a fan of them and i see matches, doesn't mean much but at least gives me some knowledge... So yeah they are out of nowwhere recognizing e-sports. If it goes well it's a savage boost on e-sports, prizes will rise, more will follow. :3
