ESWC group draw

The draw for the group stage of ESWC 2016 has been made, with the 32 participants having been drawn into eight groups.

From October 27 to 30, the Paris expo Porte de Versailles will host the 2016 ESWC edition, featuring a $75,000 men's tournament with 32 teams from all over the world, who either qualified or were handed invitations.

The competition will kick off with a double-elimination group stage, featuring best-of-one clashes up until the decider stage, in which matches will be played in a best-of-three format.

ENCE will face paiN in the opening round

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the single-elimination, best-of-three bracket, with the winner taking home $20,000.

ESWC went from being the 'unofficial major' before Valve Majors were a thing in CSGO. Valve staff even went to ESWC 2012. Fast forward to 2016 and ESWC are hosting a T4 tournament. How did ESWC drop so low?

It's hard to find esport investors in France. Main medias still view esport as a mostly childs playing videogame on their consoles, which will turn them violent and/or make them fail school. No money, no T1 teams.

Very nice tournament. Huge lan tournaments with 32+ teams always have been my favorite, they were so common on 1.6 but on GO they are extremely rare. I hope ESWC actually pays their prize purse and put on a great production, so we can see more money next year. Imagine a 32 teams lan with mostly tier 1, 2 and 3 teams attending? Would be epic.
