ESL Pro League with $2m in 2017

ESL has announced that it will pay out a total of $2 million across two Pro League seasons in 2017.

With the the dust now settling on the fourth season of the Pro League, which came to an end with an event in São Paulo, ESL has unveiled the first details about the prestigious competition in 2017.

The total prize pool has been increased by $500,000 to a whopping $2 million, with $1 million up for grabs in each season.

A total of $2 million will be on offer in the Pro League in 2017

Season 5 of the ESL Pro League will kick off on February 7 and will come to a close on the first weekend of June, where the Verizon Theatre, in Dallas, will host the offline finals. No details have been announced about the finals of Season 6, which will run from August to December.

Cloud9 succeeded SK Gaming as Pro League champions after defeating the Brazilians in the title decider of the Season 4 finals, which took place from October 26-30.

It's Valve who decides prize pools for majors, not ESL.

prize pool is still ok, it takes 4 months + 2 playoffs to distribute the $2m while it takes 5-6 days to play for the $1m major share.

This ain't good. This is another step into ESL having full control of the pro scene. Most others can't afford to raise prize pools. FaceIt is most likely allready in trouble with ECS. Look at the view count. Everyone talks that omg esl is bad and esl this, yet they only watch ESL matches. ESC has about half the views than Pro League games, even though the prize pool used to be bigger.

ESL has much better casters, but I still don't get why there are not more people watching ECS but agree with you

the timing of ECS is the main reason, EPL just finished and people are fed up of the daily matches b/w top teams. Too much online shit to care about

The advertised ECS "prize pool" includes all spending on accommodation for the players, and I think plane tickets for them so it's quite alot less than that

now ESL should figure out how to organize qualification to main event to avoid onliners who are doing shit on LAN

or maybe VP and NaVi should improve their online performance it is hardly possible to play an additional as an offline event. there are just too many events and eLeague etc. The player have to travel a lot even with the online leagues

yes which is great (even though FaZe and mouz still qualified *cough* onliners *cough*), but there can not be more leagues like that, it would be to much traveling for the players so, either there would have to be less leagues/events or we will have to live with the online qualifiers

maybe dogshit like Faze what secure 1st place in EU division abusing online format and liek always get rape in group stage on LAN stop blockign slots

The point is that CSGO players don't make this prize pools on their own, if we want to support team or player we can buy their stickers, some money from this goes to them.

valve better stop support top teams with their own aimlock system just to keep game hyped! ITS TOO OBVIOUS ALREADY. first it was flusha and fnatic, then device and astralis, shortly after that fallen and lg-sk, now every team uses it even C9 lul. valve wants to make this worldwide by spreading hack programm... sad story...all started because of NIP's 87-0 because noone could beat them atm. and valve decided that they killing the game making it boring...

More money for EU, less for NA please. NA teams are already making banks from their salary alone, and EU teams deserve it more as they are better overall (and Tier 2 EU teams have smaller salaries than Tier 2 NA teams, so something has to make up for it, so most deserving teams = EU (only C9 and SK are really good in NA, and then once in a while Liquid/Optic and Immortals are doing OK) should get more money as they are overall more competitive than NA as a whole.

I don't have a source to provide (so i have to admit i may be wrong) but a team like Echo Fox (which got rekt at ELeague)'s level in EU wouldn't get nowhere near the same money than that team in NA. I know that the cost of living is not the same everywhere obviously (small salaries aren't as painful in Eastern Europe than in Scandinavia for example), but if i had to guess i would say a team like EF pays at least 5000$/month (if not even more) + you compete against NA field (which is weaker than EU field) which means an EU team with EF level could get (because that team wouldn't be strong enough to play on stronger tourneys) access to Tier 3/4 tourneys and prizes whereas in NA that team could get access to Tier 2 tourneys (and the money that goes with it. EF scored 6 rounds in 3 maps vs VP and G2, a team like this would clearly get paid less than 1500€ in EU (if you're from Poland, Ukraine and such, it's fine, if you're from France, it's not amazing - below median income, and if you're Sweden/Norway/Finland it sucks.) I don't have numbers to prove my claims, but it's clear that weaker players are able to live from the game in NA , the weaker players from NA that live from the game wouldn't have a good enough level to live it vs EU competition (of course you can improve your income with Twitch, but i'm talking about living from salary paid by a team + prize money from CS tourneys). In ESL finals, NaVi did not qualify for example for the LAN event in Sao Paulo, a team like NaVi playing in the NA league would qualify 95+% of the time to the LAN event. I don't want NA players to win less (obviously, i'm not hating on people living their dream lol), but those companies like ESL have to invest to make sure more EU and Asia (+ other regions where almost no one is a pro) people can be pros of that game. In NA, some "not amazing at all" players are already pros, and in EU some players who might be slightly better than those "not amazing at all" NA pros aren't living from the game, so yeah the game isn't as global as it may look. (sorry for the awful - i guess - english, but it's not my native language). TL;DR : you need to be significatively better in the game to live from the game alone (get a salary + the money you win in tourneys) in EU than in NA (that's why some players like Skytten, Devilwalk in the past and such try their luck in NA.)

How is this good news, just goes to show what is wrong with this freaking world man... A freaking gamer (and you do have to be the best) makes a ton more cash than a firefighter, a teacher, a doctor. Don't get me wrong, I love cs and I love games and I think people should be able to pursue their dreams, but it is a fucking game... The same with football and other sports (eletronic or not).

Maybe with the upped prize pool, they'll also up their production quality. The last pro league finals was very sub par to say the least. Excited for the future!
