To close out 2016, our moviemaker Radosław "MAKKU" Makuch put together a highlight reel of the ten best plays of the year, according to HLTV.org staff members.

While saying our final goodbye to 2016, we are ready to present you the annual HLTV.org Top 10 Highlights video, a compilation of the finest plays of the year.

To decide upon the ten best highlights and the order in which we rank them, HLTV.org's staff has rewatched and rated the most memorable plays of 2016. As a result, we have narrowed the list down to the actions you can find in the video below.

Similarly to last year's compilation, not a single player has managed to get two highlights, and only one event—MLG Colombus—provided two plays that ended up in the Top 10.

Yeah it was a very important but that's all. He got the luckiest play of the year at the very important time but the main reason why it's first is because it's the point where cold started to be seen as the best player. I place Neo's 1v5 above that 4k any day.

S1mple's 1v2 is the worst play on the list. Both shots were luck based and it was only 2 kills. Also S1mple's was much riskier. Coldzera does some jump shots, but if you pay attention he only does it when there is a low chance of him getting killed. Yes he could have gotten one tapped jumping like that, but odds are you won't so its a low risk play with the possibility of high reward. S1mple's play was not in any way low risk.

Yes, but he probably shouldn't have. Those shots both have a high probability of missing and if they miss he can't do anything because he is in the open. Cold's play was much better because if that shot misses he will still be alive because he isn't taking huge risks that have a low probability of working. He is taking small risks.

I never said it was "a low risk play", totally the opposite. That's why it was so dumb, but we're kinda used to this with s1mple, he's not really known for being a smart player with smart moves, just a super skilled player.

I'm just saying while cold's play isn't really skill based and is RNG his play is a lot smarter. Probably still shouldn't be the top play, but IMO s1mple's shouldn't have even been in the video while cold's imo could be. There is a difference between dumb and lucky and smart and lucky. S1mple's was dumb and lucky while cold's was smart and lucky.

What? S1mple's was more luck based than cold's. Also s1mple's is a braindead all in luck play while cold's was much smarter. Cild was very unlikely to get killed making that shot whether it hit or not so he took the chance. S1mple would have died immediately if he missed either luck shot.

It was the best play of the year cause it had the most impact of any play in the game. It allowed for SK to claim back-to-back majors after being down for more than 10 combined map points.

I would like it if the top10 plays were based on skill and not complete luck. Of course most have some sort of luck involved but when it's coldzeras jump shot of s1mples double aspect no scope it's complete luck and imon shouldn't be in a top10 plays video. That's just my thoughts though it was still a great video nonetheless

Pretty much. Sorry but barbarr binks, coldzera and s1mple highlights shouldn't have been included. More luck than skill. And two of those earned a graffiti... Flash over substance. Nothing more. Both s1mple and coldzera had cleaner highlights where you can truly see their skill peak. Examples: s1mple destorying SK with a deagle, s1mple 1v4 eco against VP, coldzera clean ace in overtime against VP, and many others. Disappointing standards from HLTV, buying into the popular hype. Unexpected.

Top 10 highlights doesn't necessarily mean top 10 most skillful plays. It means the top 10 moments that were the most memorable, the 10 moments that defined the year. Context is also important. Those were huge, pivotal moments from big events, and it doesn't matter if they were luck based. If someone made a buzzer shot from the other end of the court to secure their team the NBA championships, that's still a highlight even though it was lucky. If it was just about the most skillful plays we'd have a bunch of good shots from online games that don't mean anything and that nobody remembers or cares about.

I don't think a "highlight" automatically has to imply that it was a skillful play, extremely lucky shots like those mid air AWP ones are also highlights for me. However, I do agree with everyone, that those shouldn't be ranked as high as those supreme clutches and plays which required huge amount of skill. Snax TOP1 for me, that was one of the best pistol plays ever, not only this year.

Coldzera and S1mple overrated. It was just pure luck, ever, Snax clutch was way better. Even the 1v4 vs NaVi clutch with AWP also made by Snax was better, but it did not mean so much like the jumpshot from Cold. + Deagle Ace by Niko, Shox clutch vs Luminosity on Inferno and much more for sure, but it is really hard to choose Top 10 plays of one year. The list should have 100 positions just to mention all the insane highlights of the year propably.

Cry is free. It's a year full of highlights. Why are people butthurt that their favorites didn't make it in? There's not much room to work with as it is when it's a top-10 video. Also lol @ automatically associating highlights with skill. A highlight doesn't necessarily have to be about skill. That coldzera clip, in its CONTEXT, deserves to be #1. That's at a point when SK/LG were about to complete a monumental comeback, with TL at MATCH POINT.

honestly i dont understand whats so sick about coldzera's 4k there.. it shows no brilliance of mind at all, just how broken/random the game is that he's able to get a collateral there with a jumping noscope... sure thing is an amazing play, but i'd rather see smart moves than getting "kinda" lucky kills..... same for simple's dropoff, huge play but random AF and shouldnt work in 99% of the cases vs any team.... NEO's 1v5 or Barbarr's 4k being ranked so low is knda dull. NEO's 1v5 was way more important and smart than cold's play....edit: ok after checking scores, wasnt more important

''how broken the game is'' do you know what are the odds of hitting that shot? it shouldn't be impossible, just very odd. coldzera 4k made luminosity comeback the map, and while it relyed on luck it is more ''beautiful'' to watch than other highlights, and that's what a highlight is supposed to be, it is supposed to be good to watch, being it lucky or not.

i expected from the very beginning cold's jump shot would be number one and i really hopped to be proven wrong. that's what you get for overestimating hltv i guess. btw, im disappointment fallen's 1v5 at iem katowice didn't make it in. i guess this abides the hltvinian rule of having a 2 month memory span.

I think s1mple's play was pure skill, but coldzera's jumping double was based on the strafe-jumping movement bug.
