I hope OpTic can pull through but i can't judge Astralis off their game today, Im sure they will come out strong tomorrow. I just think its a joke how OpTic play against VP then Astralis. Its even unfair for VP, they get OpTic then G2 ?

Fact is OpTic have been screwed in both round 1 & 2 draws, Having to face off against the #1 & #5 Team? Meanwhile FaZe get to play against Flipsid3 then SK who has a stand-in ? Liquid get to play against EnVy then Flipsid3 ?

I said #1 & #5, that is based off the hltv rankings which i know isn't 100% correct but the fact is Astralis & VP are both contenders to win this Major.

Ppl complaining cuz their favorites got another strong team meanwhile mouz got HR etc. For me mouz vs. HR is gonna be great match btw. The good thing on swiss format is, that you have to win 3 times, or loose 3 times. You have up to 5 match-ups to proove that you are good enough to be in play offs. Doesnt matter if you met HR, F3 or SK. Every team here is good enought to beat the other team. So if Astralis will meet HR for example in next match-up its not easy win for them, HR were able to beat NIP, C9 and mouz lately and its still fcking BO1, everything can happen.

> Ppl complaining cuz their favorites got another strong team meanwhile mouz got HR etc. For me mouz vs. HR is gonna be great match btw. The thing is there is nothing to complain about. Mouz vs HR is not going to grant them playoffs access and Astralis vs OptiC is not going to eliminate those either. So it's a good format, because teams with resilience to win Major get 3 chances to fix their mistakes or wake up.

+1 exactly, in double elimination bracket the underdogs can upset really good teams in BO1 if they do it twice, they are in PO. That means, if there were double elimination Astralis, Optic, Fnatic, North two of these could be out today.
2017-01-23 10:22
0
It's almost good. It would still require some seeding, because BO1s are BO1s. E.g. if Optic loses to Astralis and North loses to fnatic, we could end up with Optic vs. North in elimination. In that case, Optic would have faced VP, Astralis and North in group stages and maybe get eliminated 0-3, where as all these four teams are able to win this tournament. Swiss system ensures well that qualified teams earned their spot, but it does not ensure that all the eliminated teams had fair matchups compared to others.

> Swiss system ensures well that qualified teams earned their spot, but it does not ensure that all the eliminated teams had fair matchups compared to others. There is no not-opinionated way ensure matchups are fair therefore random is the only real choice and random can make the path to playoffs easier for some and harder for some. If you lose 0-3 you really don't deserve to reach even 1/8th of CSGO Major.

If you lose 0-3 to top4 teams as a top8 team and thus don't get the legends spot? I would agree with you in a world, where legend spot wouldn't exist. Then it wouldn't matter at all, if you get unlucky and have to face 3 top4 teams in BO1s and get eliminated. You probably wouldn't have had chance to get top4 even with easier opponents. But you definitely would have had chance to get top8 and as it currently matters, the system could be more fair.
