Defining Moments: SK vs. FaZe

In the first Defining Moments we had Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo walk us through two crucial rounds that changed the momentum in SK and FaZe’s match from the second round of the group stage at the ELEAGUE Major in Atlanta.

The series, which we hope to continue, will feature players' perspectives on some of the most important turning points in matches and how they and their teammates affronted the situations they were put in as they relive the heat of the moment.

SK during their comeback against FaZe

Matches frequently have decisive moments that sway the balance one way or another due to extraordinary plays, be they individual or collective. With the help of our moviemakers to illustrate the players’ flashbacks, we aim at breaking down these points of no return.

Our first Defining Moment is narrated by Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, who runs us through two rounds late in SK and FaZe’s second round match from the ELEAGUE Major. FalleN chose two rounds late in the game when SK was mounting a comeback on the terrorist side of Mirage.

FalleN picked the 27th round of the match first, in which he and Ricardo "fox" Pacheco pulled some last second heroics to deny FaZe, who were on match point, the victory. In the second part, he tells us about the 30th round of play in which Epitacio "TACO" de Melo got three kills, including a 1 vs. 1, to push the match into overtime.

Without further delay,

they woudnt face VP, gambit or NaVi for example, because the matches of the 2-0 people are against each other, the rest of the teams SK could easily win against

ok but they go 2-0 they have 3 chances to do not fail, or they should risk to lose on purpose for 1-1 and maybe play an easier team that could still surprise them (f.e astralis who also went 1-1), so as i said u cant put this logic in swiss system

i know they wouldnt throw a match just to have easier teams, i am just stating a fact that faze match wasnt crucial at all, in fact, it could be even easier to go trough the group if they lost

yes, i agree with you, it's a possibility im just saying that it's also random and eg lose to faze and then e.g astralis would be destroying for them, and they are now in 2-1 situation instead of 1-2 which is pritty crucial for them if you ask me

it 'COULD' be even easier.. it could be even harder aswell right? we'll never know because the matchups are random. and yes, it was very crucial.

Strong personality and leadership, yes. Best IGL in cs history, no. Won two majors but lost countless tournaments, struggled many times against teams like Liquid and Cloud9, versus european teams twas always a braw.

Now I'm curious to know who's the igl who didn't "lose countless tournaments" and didn't choke a few games against weaker teams. And yes, only a few, check SK's head to head against all the top tier teams, as well as these underdog teams. Losing to Cloud9 and Liquid isn't even something to be ashamed of, some games they had against teams like tyloo and Renegades were worse There's no igl in CS history who won everything and didn't struggle against weaker teams, especially on CS:GO

That's the point, many other IGL's had the same struggles but also THE SAME accomplishments. Why would Fallen be the best of them all? He is probably taking in account the charisma that he sees in Fallen to form his opinion but charisma is subjective.

First of all, there's not many other igls with his achievements. If you talk about 1.6, yeah I agree there's a lot, but makes no sense since CS:GO and 1.6 are different games. The only igl I can think of with better achievements is pronax. Maybe Xizt is on that list, but idk, after NiP got real competition they couldn't dominate the scene anymore like fnatic and SK did, so I would point Xizt's achievements on the same level as FalleN's. The real point is, having the same accomplishments while you also carry your team, being the second best player in the world, being the most skilled succesful igl in CS:GO's history - and that's not even arguable - puts FalleN above the other CS:GO igls. FalleN had the best anual stats an igl ever had last year, and I don't see anyone taking his place. You'll hardly see another player with these impressive stats while being an igl. Being a good igl takes more than just calling, you have to be a skilled player, that's why pronax and ex6 are on a slump nowadays, they're more like coaches if you ask me, they shouldn't be playing at all. Not for decent teams

Being a good igl takes more than just calling, you have to be a skilled player I disagree, Pronax is a good example, being a good igl is about making the life of your teammates easier with good calls. If Fallen manages to perform well while being igl that only adds value to him as a Player, not as igl. He performed poorly against Navi and they lost 16x3. Where was his impact as an igl? But talking about only CSGO history, no doubt Fallen can be a contender for best igl and overall player.

pronax had 4 of the very best players in the world. All 4 of them were top 8 players for at least 8 consecutive tournaments. That's not usual at all. If we pick up this SK, we have only 2 players in the top 10. Just look how pronax is performing in these last months, and how bad his team is performing without the fire power he had before. His calls and especially his individual decisions ingame are beyond mediocrity. Today was no exception, he was the dead weight of HOMESENT. Never thought I would say this, but MSL shits on him nowadays. He's making a team with JW, flusha and znajder look like a tier 3 team. That really takes a huge effort and shows how overrated he was/is

How was that lucky? FalleN knew where Aizy was and Aizy knew where he was, imo its not about luck its FalleN being faster than Aizy to connect the shot before dieing Edit: Actually Aizy played bad that round, if he hiddened in the corner they would win that round
