Astralis win the ELEAGUE Major!

Astralis win the ELEAGUE 2017 Major against Virtus.pro with a 2-1 scoreline (12-16 Nuke, 16-14 Overpass, 16-14 Train)!

The map veto for the grand final of the ELEAGUE Atlanta Major 2017 between Virtus.pro and Astralis came down to Nuke (VP), Overpass (Astralis) and Train (decider).

Nicolai "device" Reedtz started the pistol round on Nuke with an aggressive outside push from the CT side, catching out Filip "NEO" Kubski who was setting up for smokes to supplement the A site execute. Being a man dawaown and, more importantly, lacking utility, Virtus.pro changed their plan and got control of the lower site through ramp, but weren't able to hold off the retake.

Despite the plant in the pistol round, Virtus.pro went for a force buy in round two and executed a push on the A sitethis time successfully—and took the round with some Tec-9 headshots. The Poles powered through the Danish defenses in the following rounds, getting a 5-1 lead before Astralis managed to shut down their A site pushes.

Astralis tied the score at 6-6 thanks to some good plays by Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander and device, but weren't able to get in the lead thanks to Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski who held off the retake of B in a 1v3 situation.

Virtus.Pro had reasons to smile after Nuke

Virtus.pro finished the Terrorist half 9-6 up, Astralis tied the score by winning the second pistol round and the two following rounds by making it 9-9. The first buy round went Virtus.pro's way and put the Danes on an eco due to their costly anti-eco rounds, but Snax's aggression was punished by the pistols and lead to Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen clutching a 1v1 on the A site to tie the score again, this time at 10-10.

Unfortunately for Astralis, they were caught out by Virtus.pro's pistol-armor lobby push—and the trading of rounds continued. Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye was involved in two 2v2's that went the way of Astralis to make the score 12-12, however, the Danes were once again defeated by an ecoing Virtus.pro side. That round finally broke Astralis and allowed Virtus.pro to close out their map pick 16-12.

Astralis could've won VP's map pick

Paweł "byali" Bieliński and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas secured an almost unwinabble 2v3 in the first pistol round on Overpass, retaking the A site and defusing the bomb in the last possible moment. Astralis replied with a force buy win thanks to dupreeh's quad kill on B and the Danes took the early lead on their map pick.

Virtus.pro struggled to deal with Astralis' slow, execute based style and gla1ve and co. got 6-2 up before Snax clutched a 1v2 on B to start the Poles' resurgence on Overpass. The score was 6-5 when Astralis kicked it in a high gear again and finished the Terrorist half with a 9-6 lead.

Astralis won the CT pistol, but another force buy win followed—NEO took off two heads with the Scout to open up the A site for his teammates, making it 10-7. Two anti eco rounds later, Astralis' mid aggression was shut down by the Poles, still, Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth secured the round for his team by winning a 1v3 situation.

Despite a few rounds in which he struggled to support his team, byali shined in rounds 23 and 24, picking up entry frags and multi-kills, making the score 11-13. The Poles continued the string of round by closing out a few anti-ecos and securing a 4v5 by executing on the A site, and took the lead for the first time in the map with a 14-13 scoreline.

Virtus.pro were on the brink of closing it out in the following round when Kjaerbye won a 1v1 against the clutch master Snax to keep his team in it—and allow Astralis to close out Overpass 16-14 and force the third map.

Xyp9x was the main man for Astralis on Overpass

Virtus.pro kicked off Train with a simple B rush, overwhelming the inner site defenses and set themselves up for a 3-0 start. In the first gun round, the Polish side faked B and then hit A that was defended only by dupreeh—taking the site and the round easily.

The Polish powerhouse pounced on the opportunity and won the first seven rounds in a row, capitalizing on Astralis' low economy. After that, the Danish team managed to avoid being reset by saving an AWP and started to mount their comeback. It was 8-5 when TaZ made a 1v3 into a 1v1 against Kjaerbye, but the 18-year-old Dane showed up with the clutch once again, defusing the bomb with 0.1 seconds to go.

Virtus.pro switched to the CT side with a 9-6 lead and extended the lead by winning the first three rounds of the second half, making it 12-6. Astralis clawed their way back into the first gun round from a two-man deficit only to be reset by a force by from the Poles in the next one.

Xyp9x's 1v1 win against Snax made the score 13-8 and allowed Astralis to start their comeback from the T side. With four rounds won in a row, gla1ve's team went for a B where they managed to overwhelm the inner site expert TaZ to get a round away from equaling the scoreline at 12-13.

Despite Astralis' anti-eco mishap in the ensuing round, the Danes recovered and closed out the final map 16-14!

You are dumb as fuck. Astralis even lost both pistols on train and was behind 0-7 and 7-13 but still brought it back to win it! They fully deserve the win! VP made a good fight out of it but Astralis are just tooooooo stronk.

The way that SK played this tournament was to make Fox as good as possible, which means that he gets all the positions that he wants, it doesn't mean that he's any better cause he got more frags ( if even that )

Sk NEVER had cache OR cobble, nip just let it slip at the end(unintented pun). They were outplayed. Are you just going to ignore all the rounds Astralis lost in the beginning? You are only looking at the rounds nip lost in the end. I could just look at the rounds nip won in the beginning, like you are. Doesn't fucking matter how you get there (unless its some stupid 1v5 clutches or something) a 16-14 win is a 16-14 win.

Grats to the Astralis for making it to the stars with their first major final. Big applause to Virtus.Pro, they had the last two maps in their hand but faced Astralis' old syndrome. Why can't we have two winners to be honest? Both teams served excellent CS to viewers making us real winners. Looks like 2017 gonna be superb year to watch some damn good CS. Grats to device for becoming MVP of the major.

You think astralis fans would have been happy if they had lost? It was a fabulous match of cs probably they best I have watched since 2015. VP played extremely well mad respect to them. But astralis came through in the end. I was crying with happiness when they won. P.S. THE CROWD WAS NUTS. IT WAS SO AWESOME TO SEE A NEUTRAL CROWD CHEERING SO HARD

Complete fairytale ending :) So happy that Astralis finally won a major! They deserve it. Virtus played incredible too so mad respect to them. But they've won a major already. So let's be happy for the Danes this time. What a final! Device, finally the trophy to go with the legendary performances over the years. Dupreeh, what an entry fragger...that final round, you'll never forget that in a lifetime! Well done to all the guys, Xyp played so good in map 1 and 2, Kje too and Glaive holding it all together. Well done guys, gg! Legends!

Still have goosebumps running down my spine from how absolutely incredible that entire final was. Every map was action packed, both teams poured their hearts into every round, so much respect for both teams for just laying it all out there. DESERVED for Astralis, happy to see them get the monkey off their back and WP VP, proving to the world that age doesn't matter and roster stability is still actually a thing in 2017.

If it hadn't been for Kjaerbye's outstanding performance, this would have been a really hard game for Astralis. device had a real hard time on the three maps and on train especially, VP understood how big the danger would have been if they didn't neutralize him. Congrats Astralis, this time you can officially say that you were the better team.

Yeah VP was also luck that is true, but I would understand your argument if VP would've won the Major, but now its quite true that Astralis won rounds in a normal world which they shouldn't have won. Kjaerbye 0.1 second Tec-9 yolo rush, xyp9x 1-3 but yeah VP had also luck when they won just with pistols.

Great final to watch! :) Even so i think Astralis should had won it 2 - 0, i think they were the better team on nuke aswell - but as a neutral spectator im just glad it went all the way to the third map. First time in a grand final at a major, down 0 - 8 at the last map, such a young team being able to climbe back and win the map? Great mentality and strenght shown.

So sad to see vp losing this. They are the champions of heart. They deserved it so much. Losing 2 times 14-16 and having so unlucky situations like defusing in the last second or giving headshots with 1 hp .... stupid arrogant kids won instead of legends ... always cheering for vp. Vp is love vp is life, all players stepped up ...

I actually think it's more entertaining when it's more unpredictable - teams not always losing eco rounds.

I dont care if I lose to some kek9 rushes but if you lose a map in the major grand final cause of this, thats crushing. NiP lost 1st final map because of Fnatic tec9's and now VP probably lost the whole grand final because of this one round. Tec9 rush...

Of course it's crushing - but it super entertaining as a viewer, that you can't expect anti-eco wins every time. Today both teams won several eco rounds. And what a fantastic game it was! Feel for vp though... could've gone either way.

i think pistols shouldn't be nerfed. they makes matches entertaining because if there was no chance to win with pistols matches would be desperate.

Also insane comeback by Astralis, especially versus VP. After all these years, they finally win a major. Deserved. Respect to both teams, GGWP.

Please throw away those stupid bo1 groups! Gambit & Navi were so much of bo1 heroes, it's not even funny. Let teams show their true strength, and finally stop that retarded randomizer, there are 7 maps, you can let each team ban 3 maps and play what they want to play, why to let one of the teams ban 1 map more comparing to their opponent? Guys, it's MAJOR, a tournament with the best teams, it shouldn't be random!

VP lost the final, but what was the finale? One of the best in the past 3 years, if not the best. Each map aligned in each of victory decided by a matter of luck. CS at the highest level is the gambling.

VP played different CT in compare to previous games. I think in the beginning they tried to counter what Astralis did with them on practice and it didn't work. Then they lost B side twice in unlucky way (each time Astralis pushed after granade from Taz, coaccident? don't think so, they knew his pos I guess then) and then after they didn't have enough money to throw granades at begin. They didn't play much for information or tried to guess side which was very surprising, instead VP's very default was outplayed well by Astralis (same happened on Overpass) and that cost VP the map.

As a Norwegian SK fan i must say Astralis deserved that all over... The sick comeback they did.! I must say that is the most nerve wracking i have seen. When that is said, VP played a hell of a game too. They did very well. Respect for that. GL next time :)

WP Astralis. Kjaerby with the nerves of steel, without him they're not even winning overpass. Device choked pretty hard on the last 2 maps but came through with some key AWP frags on train. Xyp9x clutch on overpass was massieve. And finally glaive with a great call to rush for the last 2 round wins on train. Ballsy. VP were great too but got caught off-guard by glaive's masterful rush tactics. One of the best majors I've ever watched overall and arguably the best Finals ever imo.

For me Virtus.pro is the best team in the world. Remember that Neo and Taz have over 30 years and Pasha is close. They play at the highest level in 11 years. WCG 2006 their first big success, and then it was at once the better. You have to respect a team.
