Secret win Intel Challenge 2017

Secret defeated dignitas 2-0 (16-4 on Train and 16-12 on Nuke) in the grand final of Intel Challenge Katowice 2017 and thus continue their reign over the female Counter-Strike circuit.

Secret, the European powerhouse female team who put a capstone on 2016 with victories at both ESWC 2016 and Intel Challenge Katowice 2016, came into the $30,000 2017 version of the Intel Challenge in Katowice, Poland as heavy favourites to take home gold.

Zainab "zAAz" Turkie & co. easily made semifinals of the eight team tournament alongside their known and prevalent North American competition in the forms of CLG Red and dignitas (the latter team having recently signed the Selfless Gaming roster), in addition to majority German team expert.

vilga showcased a stalwart performance for Secret in the grand final

With dignitas edging out CLG Red on the other side of the semifinals bracket, Petra "Petra" Stoker and crew of expert surprisingly gave Secret a run for their money with a 16-10 victory on the first map of Cache in the second semifinal but Secret eventually closed out the series 2-1 and moved into the grand final.

There were less surprises in the grand final where, following a 16-4 wipe over dignitas on their map pick of Train, Secret took down their rivals 16-12 on their map pick of Nuke and secured victory, with Ksenia "vilga" Kluenkova putting on a dominant 1.90 rating and 129.1 ADR in the grand final.

Yes, and so was I, in the sense that Na'vi/North didn't win the tournament, so it's great they earned less then the winner secret. Just ignore my "anything" in my previous post.

'so it's great they earned less than the winner secret.' Well no, not really considering the fact that these are tier 5 teams playing who would get crushed by the likes of North/Na`Vi at any opportunity. How in any rational, logical way could you ever think Secret deserve more prize money than North or Na`Vi when they can't beat tier 5/6 male teams who aren't salaried and have no realistic chance of making it into a tournament where they could win nearly as much prize money as Secret did? It's ridiculous that a tier 5 team is winning more prize money than tier 1 teams like Na`Vi or North.

depends what you call tier 1. do you mean the elite teams? do you mean the top 5 teams? top 8 teams? I'm talking about the top 5-8 teams, of which Na`Vi and North are both in therefore I called them tier 1.

Tier 1 = tournament favorites. VP SK Astralis. There's no set number for tier 1 teams.

Well, that goes for every sport, women are not at the same level. The difference between a tier 5 team for men and the best for women is not the skill-level, and that's not what makes the pay-gap. The difference is that when two tier 5 teams of men compete, they don't have any viewers, cant say the same for the female final, can you? Public interest pays.

'Public interest pays.' It does, but you're not making a very massive point here. And the 'public interest' you're talking about is derived from people wanting to watch the best teams in the world play CS:GO at the highest level. No one wants to watch tier 5 male teams play because there are much more skilled teams that viewers can watch play at big tournaments, nor do the tier 5 male teams even get a chance to compete at tournaments with anywhere near as much money as these shitty female teams do. You're avoiding my point anyways, I'm asking you why they DESERVE that money not why they RECEIVE that money, and they absolutely do not deserve more money than far better teams than them such as Na'Vi and North. Anyways, on the topic of public interest, there was far more public interest for IEM Katowice than there was for the female tournament, in fact you had hundreds of thousands of viewers throughout the playoffs and consistently 400k+ watching in the finals. Can't say the same for the female matches can you?
2017-03-06 08:52

I'm not avoiding anything, they deserve the money cause of the interest the public shows, and in all fairness to your last point that connects the two, yes the best teams in IEM Katowice had a lot more viewers in the playoffs then the female final, and they also DO earn way way more money because of that, so it's fair. And that's just the prize money, not the salary. In my first comment I was a bit ironic, but the point is, it should be a big gap in money due to the skill-level, and it is. But that's always the case, no matter the sport, and the skill-gap is always there, so is the difference in money they earn. But due to the audience, the best females are able to earn more then men at the same level, why should it be different just in CS? Now, in IEM Katowice, the prize money for the men was pretty low compared to other tournaments, and it was high for the female's, compared to most others, I think :)

Played with juliano on faceit, she is literally cant kill someone from behind, finish game 3-19 and can compete in event for $15k? Lol wtf is this shit.
