India to host $300,000 event

India will stage a $300,000 CS:GO event later this year with international teams in attendance, according to a report from sportskeeda.com.

Backed by RouteMobile co-founder Rajdip Gupta, the event, called COBX Gaming, is part of a plan to develop the country's esports scene and have an Indian team capable of competing against the world's best by 2018.

Two of the 16 teams in attendance at the event will be determined by a national league, which will start in April and have upwards of $15,000 on offer. The remaining 14 slots will be filled by international teams invited by the event's organisers.

Wolf attended the 2014 ESL One Cologne Major

The dates and location for COBX Gaming have not yet been revealed. By having international teams and a prize fund of this magnitude, Mr Gupta hopes that it will "send a signal to the foreign competitors" of just "how serious" his commitment to the project is.

"If you see our talent in games such as CS GO and Dota 2, they are not bad, the major problem is that they don’t get that exposure," he told sportskeeda.com.

"Our goal is to make India a fixed destination on the international esports calendar.

"So young teams are exposed to experienced players, that is the only way we can have teams playing at majors and high level tournaments across the world."

The news comes just weeks after Indian mobile game publisher Nazara Games announced its plan to invest $20 million over the next five years to create a professional league in the country which will feature three games: CS:GO, League of Legends and Dota 2.

India had one representative at the 2014 ESL One Cologne Major following the withdrawal of the former LGB eSports team. The spot ended up going to Wolf, the winner of the domestic qualifier, with the team being eliminated in the group stage following defeats against Ninjas in Pyjamas and HellRaisers.

Bunch of bullshit said. Exposure my ass. if u want to reach the top u can do so from anywhere and show ur skill. 1 local example is ISSA from jordan who is on fpl and he didn't have to get international exposure to become better.

internet connection from jordan to eu is better than that of india to au, the nearest relevant scene. jordanian dota players (miracle, yapzor) play eu pubs because they have decent connection.

The fact remains that India has a bigger population and have almost the same circumstances as we do in Jordan and i can actually name more if u want for example latal so don't say i can only name one guy and furthermore if one guy made it out of thousands why can't the others?.

India is also going to have an IPL-like league which is reserved for Indian players in its first season. However they plan to invite foreign players from season 2 onwards. Though i dont see any tier1 players coming, this should be good enough for tier2/3 players

Great news. In 2017, three companies have announced plans to put big money to launch their respective leagues in the country. This is great encouragement to develop e-sports as and actual feasible career option in the Indian sub-continent. The goal is to create an Indian e-sports outfit, which can atleast compete against the best in the world by 2018. Untill now we haven't been very prominent : hltv.org/match/2292335-nip-wolf-esl-one-.. India Gaming Carnival was a bad event and we need to do a good job this time to prove that IGC is not a true portrayal of the country. Hope its well organised this time around. If there are LAN events, I personally will look forward to possibly visiting the event if it is in Delhi or nearby. Maybe I can be a part of the event too; that may be fun. Also, stop asking if I am associated with RouteMobile just because my nick is RrouteForce. That is not true and it makes no sense :D

Way too much Xenophobes here. India is not that bad, i mean ofc it is poor af, but it also have some nice places. I have visited it many times (for work), and even my girlfriend is auditing a company in Hyderabad this week. Indians are really a hard working people, and i have no doubt that they can put a good event if they want to.

"Of course it's poor af" May I correct you? The top 50 richest people of the world have 2 Indians one at #27 and one at #46 ( i guess ) namely Mukesh Ambani and Dilip Sanghvi :). Moreover despite being enslaved by the British for over 2 centuries today an Indian super power the Tatas are creating job opportunities in the very same country apart from our own. Most of the comments above call India a tier 3 / shitty country but they do forget the fact that the worlds 3rd largest standing army is of India thats way too much to bargain for a shitty tier 3 country. And most importantly a nuclear stockpile of 90-110 nuclear warheads which is commendable I'd say. Each and every country has some drawbacks its best to focus on the positives aspects rather than the negative ones. Considering a nation that was enslaved till 1947 id say we have done a good job in 70 years :) and will continue to with gods grace. I really liked your positive attitude though except the poor af part :) we arethe 2nd largest country in terms of population and believe it or not providing jobs to 100 crores is a gradual process and takes time but the leaders are working on eradicating these things especially under Mr Narendra Modi sir :) Thanks to all those supporting and to those opposing learn to keep a friendly attitude towards upcoming countries. Even Brazil wasn't one of the best in csgo but SK proved us wrong :) didn't they? Everyone has a potential it's just about the right exposure and with the help of our fellow players of EU and USA and Brazil we will surely try to rise. Peace

Sir, i've been all around your country, i understand that India really has a huge potential and is also a very powerful economy (in general figures). But the reality is that the average Indian still have a considerable lower life standard in comparison with the western world (even with the poorer ones, such as Brazil, Mexico and Eastern Europe). Please do not misunderstand me, I am not trying to offend you nor your country, I am just pointing out to some facts. India is indeed a rich country (mainly because it also has the 2nd largest population in the World, soon to be the 1st) but Indians are still very poor. But I hope that India can keep its fast growth path because your people deserve so much, you guys know how to do business and are really hard working. And again, I am 100% sure that India will be able to host a world class CSGO tournament, and hope that this can used as a kick-start for developing the Indian CSGO scene.

no internation team in their right mind would be coming. The other league is in the right direction, you got to hold big leagues in your country and only allow national teams to participate, or some of the other asian teams, so the world can see they are serious.

Wolf what the actual EFF ?? They disbanded like a decade ago. To people posting ESL India videos, get a life and watch more live csgo events on twitch or YouTube. AFAIK, the last event hosted by ESL India called Masters had approx and avg 100 viewers over live stream and few hundred Comic Con Crowd watching the live stream as if someone forgot to open the event gate for them to escape. W@nkers !! Seems like a total scam or a post just to attract sponsors. And wrt the other Multi Million $ events hosted by Ucypher. I m sure its not anything more than a scripted sh!t show like Big Boss/Brother.
