StarSeries S3 Finals seeding revealed

The seeding and the first pairings of the swiss system group stages at SL i-League StarSeries Season 3, which is due to kick off in Kiev next week, have been revealed.

The teams attending the LAN finals, which will take place at the Palace "Ukraina" In Kiev on April 4-9, have been divided into four pools, with the teams from the first and fourth pools playing each other, and the teams from the second and third doing the same.

Pool 1 Pool 2 Pool 3 Pool 4
World Natus Vincere Denmark North Sweden fnatic United States CLG
Denmark Astralis Kazakhstan Gambit France G2 China 5POWER
Poland Virtus.pro Europe FaZe Europe HellRaisers China TYLOO
Brazil SK Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas Brazil Immortals Korea MVP Project

With the teams in Pools 1 and 2 being invited, and the teams in Pools 3 and 4 having made it through qualifiers, this means the invited teams will be playing teams who made it through the qualifiers in the first round of matches.

The Palace "Ukraina" will once again host the StarSeries finals

The tournament will then continue with teams with the same record facing each other until the final eight teams are left standing. The first match-ups are:

Denmark Astralis vs. United States CLG
Poland Virtus.pro vs. Korea MVP Project
Brazil SK vs. China TYLOO
World Natus Vincere vs. China 5POWER
Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. France G2
Denmark North vs. Brazil Immortals
Europe FaZe vs. Europe HellRaisers
Kazakhstan Gambit vs. Sweden fnatic

The last eight teams will then go on to play a single elimination best-of-three playoff for the lion’s share of $300,000, which will be distributed as follows:

1. - $125,000
2. - $50,000
3-4. - $25,000
5-8. - $10,000
9-11. - $6,000
12-14. - $4,000
15-16. - $2,500

Ez for NiP imo

thats because of the seeding pools logically pool #1 have priority over others so they get weaker oponents. what im not getting here is how they distributed teams on pools since nip won last season

All pools distribution is made on the start of the season (right after major), using power rankings on that moment. 1-2 pool is filled by invited teams, 3rd and 4th by qualified.

The 1st and 2nd pools are filled with invited teams, 3rd and 4th with qualifying teams. When they see NiP, they were like "nah they won't win this season they sucks lol" but they have to invite them since they are the winner last year so they put them on the last on the second pool. See the huge Kappa there.

They are not, the worst teams should face the best teams. Why should crappy teams get easy match ups? They don't deserv a free pass. The best 8 teams should end up in playoffs, and no team in pool 4 deserves to be there!

I bet VP and Na'Vi would lose to NiP, g2, Fnatic, or even Gambit. But despite their low form, it's almost impossible for t5 teams to upset VP and Na'Vi. Teams from group 2 and 3 would have a high chance of upset against every team from group 1. But it looks like organisers really want teams with the biggest fanbases in playoffs... like... 5power? MVP project? TyLoo without their best player? CLG...? No upset potential at all. And that's why group stages are usually so boring.
2017-03-29 23:13

But it's not a group stage, it's a Swiss format. That is just the first match, after that teams with the same record faces each other. So good teams will play good teams and bad teams will play bad team already in the second game.

Didn't know they were doing Swiss groups, looking forward to it. This slightly favours teams who have smaller map pools as there's no Bo3's, so don't be surprised if there's a few unlikely teams who get hot quickly and get out of groups.

hmm your explanation makes no sense! invites to S3 were revealed Feb 22nd, and at that time Navi was 5th, ranked below Astralis, VP, SK and North (No way Navi is pool 1) Now you're saying that the seedings were done after the major (I'm assuming Eleague major that ended in Jan 29th). In the rankings released on Jan 30th Navi was ranked 9th, below Faze, North and even NIP and Fnatic) No fuc**ing way Navi is pool 1. Can we just say that it's chouvinistic bias?!?!

Invites were figured out and confirmed on 14th of February. If you will check rankings (which was not the main rating source) on 13th of February, you will find answer.
