G2 beat SK; to StarSeries playoffs

G2 are the second team through to the playoffs at the SL i-League StarSeries Season 3 finals after defeating SK Gaming 16-8 on Overpass.

The match began at a frantic pace as the teams struggled to stamp their authority on the game, with rounds going back and forth following strong individual plays.

With the scoreline reading 3-2 in favor of G2, Kenny "kennyS" Schrub got two peek kills with the AWP to give his team the first two-round lead of the game, with Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro following that up with a clean sweep ace, forcing SK to call a tactical pause.

G2 continued picking up rounds and eventually jumped out to a 7-2 lead. SK then brought that streak to an end after overturning a 3vs5 situation, but they were unable to build on that win as the Frenchmen hit back in the following round thanks to a double spraydown from bodyy. G2's defence was simply impenetrable, and they ultimately finished the first half with 12 rounds on the board.

G2 advance to the playoffs in Kiev

Epitacio "TACO" de Melo turned hero in the pistol round as CT, denying Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt the ace with a great headshot to give his team some breathing room. SK put together a small run of rounds and reduced the deficit to 7-12, but then G2 won three in a row to hit match point.

SK still found a lifeline with a shoddy buy thanks to a last-minute kill from Fernando "fer" Alvarenga onto G2's man carrying the bomb, but the Frenchmen would win the following round to book passage to the playoffs.

PoTM: Richard "shox" Papillon was 18:0 in the rounds that G2 won, which speaks volumes about his contribution. He was G2's top fragger and also had a crucial triple kill in the fourth round, which marked the beginning of a great run from his team.

Yeah, as in the case of Navi we cannot say for example how deep is their map pool or how well they'll do in a BO3, but they show some promise :)

Fallen is starting to fall into the same scenario seang is in, great strategic mind, but aim is going away. I think he should take a step back from playing and become SK's coach and bring in HEN1. I think SK would go back to dominating people again. Just my 2 cents though...

You might be right, but I thought Seang was still doing ok in Misfits? And that leaves Immortals with nothing ^^ It's just that everytime I see fallen pick up the AWP, I expect at least 2-3 kills yaknow. I guess we've been spoilt by his previous form.

I'm so proud of them. A phenomenal match for G2. They impress me with their behavior. FalleN is joking about the result (16:3), VP's players doing it as well (Snax, pasha for example) while the French keep calm and just do step by step.

Proper lanliners. Impressive showing so far. I wonder how they'll perform when they have a bad start in a game tho, previous g2 used to shut down pretty fast, especially if it happened in the T side.

But they won a force, broke sk's economy and ended up in a position of strenght from the start. I recall a game in de_train where shox just tilted out of the server after the 1st gun round and their T side was simply non existent from there. Wanna see if they fixed it with the new lineup. That's what I was refering to as a bad start :>

Where are the people in denial "G2 only played sh*t teams, wait before they play SK/Astralis or VP" Where are the people who made fun of me when i said "G2 best team in the world, their era started". LMAO : VP 2-16 SK, VP obviously not the best team in the world. Astralis conceeding 11 rounds to CLG (which also scored 11 vs HR :) ), losing to North, Astralis not the best team in the world in current form. So the best team was either G2 or SK, G2 made it extremely clear : they are by far the best team in the world right now.
