swag stand-in for C9 at cs_summit

Braxton "swag" Pierce will be standing in for Cloud9 at the upcoming cs_summit tournament that will take place in Los Angeles, California next week.

Braxton "swag" Pierce, who made a name for himself representing the likes of compLexity and IBUYPOWER, will be standing in for Cloud9 next week at cs_summit. According to a report from Slingshot Esports, it is likely that swag will be coming in for Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, who was recently hospitalized due to post-surgery complications.

swag will face top level opposition once again at cs_summit

cs_summit is a $150,000 LAN event featuring eight teams which will be held in Los Angeles, California from April 19-23.

This will be swag's second offline event with Cloud9 since his match-fixing ban, as he previously stood in for the team at RGN Pro Series in 2015, a tournament they went on to win.

Cloud9 is expected to field the following roster at cs_summit:

United States Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert
Canada Mike "shroud" Grzesiek
United States Jake "Stewie2K" Yip
United States Timothy "autimatic" Ta
United States Braxton "swag" Pierce (stand-in)

Professeur writes for HLTV.org and can be found on Twitter.

Are you stupid? There does not need to be pre-established rules against match fixing. Match fixing goes against the spirit of competitive/ professional play. It is a given that one should always compete to the best of their ability. It is an implied rule for anything competitive including an elementary spelling bee. Why even play if you are going to match fix then? Only dumb ass teens think they need to be told explicitly that they shouldn't match fix. Deserved life ban. NEXT!

In any sport is prohibited.. yes, but it's totally unfair that at age 17 he have a life ban. To exercise a punishment can't be judged by morality (spirit of competitive, blablala) but by established laws, and here never were. I agree that he receives a punishment (although there were no pre-established rules), so that this does not happen again (although being sincere happens every day and in 90% of the matches) and therefore this is An important point since it weighs a lot when judging a sentence. You can not kill a player's career if a punishment was never established from the beginning. Here the guilt is again of valve for not paying attention to something so important. The most well-known case in the sport is Juventus a famous football club was punished but none of the players and the same club had such a severe punishment. And this case was much worse since there were many party arrangements and other fraudulent maneuvers. Remember that the career of a player of csgo is very short, lasts less than 10 years and a punishment involving that magnitude does not seem reasonable. Being 17 is not old enough, you are still a teenager and you can make these kind of mistakes. UNDESERVED LIFE BAN

This is Valve's game they can do whatever they fuck they want. If they want to ban you tomorrow for whatever reason, they can. You are using their services, not vice versa. Kids 17, not like his life is over.

If you want to get technical, online skins betting was illegal at the time also. So while these kids did throw a match, they shouldn't of been punished as harsh for something that was illegal to do anyways. Remember, online gambling in the US, which these kids are from, is not allowed. And Swag was under age at the time also, which means he definitely should of never even been allowed to gamble. It's a big cluster fuck that could of all been made easier if Valve would have placed rules in place before this type of situation happened. Valve should have made it apparent that any professional player should not be allowed to gamble or skin bet while under contract for a professional team, and then lay out consequences. Swag and any match fixers who were under the age should have there bans removed. Allow them to pay the money back to the communities in the form of giveaways and do free work at tournaments help setting them up. Sort of like community service.

It is not illegal to gamble online if it isn't REAL currency. Cash in hand, they were skins so it isn't illegal bud.

It actually is illegal bud, just look under the wire act for sports betting. Since video gaming is considered an esport, it follows under this law. While its not illegal for you to place the bets, its against the law for websites to take sports or esports bets. That is why most sport betting sites are not located in the US. Banks also have a law that states banks cannot take illegal money, and betting on sports and winning is illegal money. Hence the reason BitCoin is always a popular option on these sites. And as for skins, they are considered currency once they have a value placed on them. Plus the whole fact that Valve themselves have stated skin betting is against ToS although skin selling still seems to be a thing.

Alleged cheaters. VAC ban is not conclusive nor does it specify when or where, what PC was used, for how long, with what infringement and whether it had any effect at all on any game at all. Match fixing is a completely different, premeditated choice to misrepresent a professional sporting organisation Get a clue fuckwits. Valve did the right thing, set a precedent that you just don't do that shit ! ESL granted some leniency in case of unfair situations. KQLY story might not be totally believable, but what if he did carelessly test something to get an idea about cheating and educate himself ? that doesn't deserve career ending consequences, and Valve still keep VAC accounts out of the prestigious majors. ESL should be commended for seeing that this situation is not black and white, and has nothing to do with the other situation. Bitch about it endlessly, or consider you might be wrong and look at things deeper with an open mind not just react based on your feelings instantly. VAC'd players are still not going to affect the huge, deep competitive scene we have now, with new talent coming out of many countries and big money going into making more and more powerful teams. I don't expect any of them give a damn about VAC'd players, noone out there with a VAC ban is important, hire someone else. So who gives a fuck ??

Opinions will always vary, no need to get upset kid. IBP were banned by Valve, take it up with them if you really are that clueless. Or keep swearing like it will make your opinion valid, I don't care ? have fun. In every sport the phrase is bringing the game into disrepute. Valve couldn't stand for that, so those players can't go to the most prestigious games, majors. Doesn't stop them trying to play elsewhere, why is that so hard to understand?

+1 mad respect for they way you stated your thoughts and opinions, regardless of whether or not I agree with you. This guy above you though....is full blown aids. I can't help but to relate what iBP did to what former future hall of fame baseball player, Pete Rose, did with his team. And then I compared that situation to what you said in regards to Match Fixing > Being VAC'd. If we compare this situation to an established league with set rules, regulations, and standards, such as baseball...you find the exact same results as what you said. Pete Rose - Game Fixing and Betting Against His Own Team - Lifetime Ban From Baseball/Ineligible for Reinstatement or Hall of Fame. He was/is considered one of the best players to every play the game. Now compare the punishment of what Pete Rose did to current and former players who've been caught and/or accused of using steroids (pretty much the worse way to "cheat" in athletics, especially baseball). As much as I hate seeing them get the lifetime ban, i can't argue with what Valve did...they set a precedent and they set one so extreme that no professional player would ever risk their career on something so minuscule ever again.

I think they were an example for everyone. Give them a second chance and after that apply perma bans. The guys shouldn't have done it but they didn't know the concequences. To my eyes it really should be the players that got VAC baned permanently banned. Cheating is way more disgusting and game killing then matchfixing.

This is exactly what I was thinking. "if they were just punished, we would be too" - it would open floodgates to matchfixing hell. As much as I would love to see IBP on the scene "we" can't allow an exception. Oh, cheaters should be permabanned too. Letting them play at non Volvo sponsored events makes a mess as teams would possibly have 6 players in rosters. What a fucking nonsense.

Well imo all should be banned permanently cheaters aswell. But if u think about it cheating not as bad as throwing... throwing just completely destroys the whole pro scene

One is game influencing. The other tarnishes the credibility of the scene entirely. Match fixing is fraud. If cheaters were caught conclusively, say at a LAN, then throw the book at them. But VAC only says an account was used months back, could be for 5 minutes, could be for days, could be when an account was compromised, could be a very basic illegal program that doesn't have any aim assist ! don't take a VAC ban as a proven case of cheating to win at any point. Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't like this and it was cheating for sure in competition, cheating is basically just as bad, inexcusable and deserves life.
2017-04-13 21:54

Match fixing has happened in every single sport, in almost every other sport match fixing comes with a fine and a timed ban usually around the year mark. The fact that esports have perminantly banned match fixers who stole £10,000 does show moral superiority from valve, it shows how shit scared of negative press they are.

"Unusual betting patterns were reported for a match between Accrington Stanley and Bury on the final day of the 2007–08 season. A Football Association investigation resulted in five players, four of whom played for Accrington Stanley and the other for Bury, being charged with betting on a Bury win.[11] Jay Harris was banned from playing for a year, David Mannix for ten months, Robert Williams and Peter Cavanagh for eight months, and Andrew Mangan for five months.[12][13] Each player was also fined between £2,000–5,000." Olympique Marseille vs Valencienne in 1993. OM had to play the champions league final vs AC Milano days after and they dont wanted to get injured players. Juventus bought MANY games in the 90's too, won multiple championships with that. You sure you know Something about football?

Milan , Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio, Raggina all were found guilty of match fixing from 2004-2006. Not a single player received a lifetime ban. Most of the teams were relegated to Serie B and started with negative points in the league. Juventus was stripped of their championship also. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Italian_footb..

Yeah, it was a wise move. The door was wide open for this shit, so when it happened hit them with a nuke so everyone sees it is the dumbest thing to do, never even think about it. It has a positive long term effect out of a very sticky situation. Valve do fuck up and the whole csgojackpot style betting site thing should have been jumped on way back when betting started, but they are not the ones running unregulated gambling on outcomes of leagues/tournaments using their game. They didn't have any involvement except having item trading. Thankfully when they have the position to make a big call like this they don't mess around ! Now if they would just go kamikaze on these fucking cancerous gambling sites somehow ? remember when they banned all jackpots bots.. I thought good, precedent.. later they unban them and shit ton of other sites appear so fast. Hopefully it isn't too late, its an epidemic now. Constantly see spammers with their referral codes in twitch for example, comments here.. fuck off lol

Who is "they"? If you get vac banned you are not able to attend any Valve sponsored events so no they NEVER unban anyone who got banned. You are talking about shit like ESL? All those leagues well its their choice to throw away any chance they would ever have of hosting a major to allow these irrelevant players in their events? Sounds retarded and match fixing is way worse than cheating it's not even in the same league of crimes, especially organized match fixing.

I just dont understand, how can u guys type #freeswag? this guy is burglar, he is bandit, he is water rat, he is snatcher. Imagine starving poor boy in africa, he uses his bread money to get access to internet to bet on his favorite team - IBP, he knows they are gonna win for sure, there is no chance they will lose. AND he bets His favoruite AWP Asiimov for which he saved money selling cases for over a YEAR to make some profit and buy food to his disabled little brother and mother that EBOLED. just imagine this situation. Next day. He wakes up. he is on the floor because they cant afford bed. HE SPENDS his last money to go to csgolounge and HIS HEART IS BROKEN. His favourite player Braxton "swag" Pierce, that was his IDOL, he wanted to be like him, he wanted swag to be his fatger, HE THREW THIS GAME. and this poor african boy just understands that his life is over, that there is no hope in this meaningless life and he commits suicide, watching at his AWP asiimov and SWAG face, his last words were : "Who is m1?" His mother dies from ebola, his little brother is alone, he dont know what to do, his only way to survive is to play rank S under name "MarKe" Braxton "swag" Pierce is ruthless maniac and terrorist, unban him and he will do it again and again and all children in africa will die, their brothers will play rank S just think about it, when u will write #freeswag next time...

If you used that kind of money just to go betting, then you deserved the loss. If there were no betting, there were no throw. ;)

Even if you don't bet on a team, people support teams they like, they get emotionally invested in their team doing well just like any sport. For them to just make that meaningless, dear fan of my sport, I don't care that you support me cos ez money. That's immoral. On the age thing, and others likely peer pressuring to some extent whether directly or not, I think it's a shame for swag. If he tried to win the game anyway it would've been more obvious and everyone hates/threatens him.. if he says no no guys don't don't.. they ridicule him and maybe threaten him.. it is not a nice situation to be in and you have to feel for the guy. Shit situation because how could ska possibly have not known about it ? he probably said fine I won't fight you but I want no skins because fuck you I'm a competitor not a scammer. If so then swag should have done the same, right ? we all make bad choices especially when we are young and easily influenced, so some leniency is deserved, but taking skins is crossing the line. Fair enough in all cases I think. ska probably did make the right moral choice and if so I personally am super proud of him.

I doubt Valve will reconsider his ban based on a random LAN performance. They already know he is one of the most skilled players in NA scene. Him dropping 50 frags per map would have no effect on the ban.

Why don't they unban these guys as they were part of the first matchfixing case discovered ? Even the french players, the punishment should have been forever for the future matchfixing but not for these guys. Okay this is illegal, you don't toy with people's money but in the first place Valve should have had clear rules on these betting website (and even with skin sites, which they did as we know it). I don't forgive him for what he has done, but the punishment is way too stupid.

I was thinking the same but sooner or later they will play valve tournaments and all their time spent on training is meaningless PS I think it's not "healthy" when you have 1 or 2 more players benched, they're used to own playstyles and can do things around it without saying a word. sorry for englando

For a team that practices intensely all the time, it doesn't make sense to be constantly swapping a player in and out depending on what tournament is upcoming. It would also be a slap in the face to shroud and would likely cause him to play worse from feeling like he's just a placeholder.

If cs summit is anything like the Dota 2 summits, the tournament might reach major type viewer numbers if the word is spread.

It's pretty sad that the ban happened 3 years ago and these guys are still trying to play and not moving on with their lives. Valve has been pretty black and white about keeping these guys banned - it's time to get over it.

They play Overwatch don't they ? some do I think.. agree, people need to get over it whats done is done and those involved have a chance to learn such a valuable lesson. You the man ska, come back stronger. Sometimes time on the outside looking in can change your perspective. Maybe he's studying device old vods and new vods :D what AWPer has made progress like device ? he's arguably the #1 AWPer on recent form, really scary in any situation

Swag gets paid by c9 to stream and therefore is still making money by playing cs. He doesn't have to move on especially since he clearly enjoys what he's doing.

You think c9 is paying swag enough to live off of simply by streaming? If you do I think you're being quite naive. Swag and c9 are banking on the off-chance Valve shows mercy and grants him eligibility to compete again. Those chances get smaller every year to the point where only the delusional would think that the ban be lifted.

He's 20 and living alone now and has the option to live at the c9 house whenever he wants. So yeah..I think he's doing just fine. Nice try tho.

The tournament is literally inside of the Beyond the Summit house/studio, there is no audience or arena beyondthesummit.tv/cs_summit/

Anyone who complains about Swag playing at summit is an idiot. IBP Deserve to be unbanned by now. We have VAC'd players allowed in ESEA/ESL leagues which I find questionable at best. IBP threw a worthless match. But Valve doesn't listen to its base.
