Cloud9 to upper semis over OpTic

With a confident 2-0 win over OpTic (Cobblestone 16-9, Mirage 16-6), Cloud9 made their way to the upper bracket semi-finals at cs_summit.

Cobblestone began with Jake "Stewie2K" Yip and Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert picking up doubles in the pistol round as Terrorists, which set off a five-round streak of rounds going Cloud9's way.

OpTic finally found a response with a pocket triple AWP, but the economic drawbacks of that choice hit them hard once Tarik "tarik" Celik and company lost the following round.

With that, Cloud9 got up to 8-1 before Keith "NAF" Markovic gave OpTic another round with a 1v1 clutch. n0thing's team managed to clinch most of the remaining rounds for a 12-3 lead with Stewie2K racking up over 20 kills in the first half only.

Stewie2K was unstoppable on Cobblestone

The second half started slowly for Cloud9, who picked up the pistol round but dropped the following. However, 1v2 clutches from Braxton "swag" Pierce and n0thing later on in the second half sealed map one at 16-9.

Mirage was a similar story at the start, as Mike "shroud" Grzesiek's roster got off to a flying start, getting the pistol round and the first gunround for a 4-0 lead. Stewie2K's quad-kill in a scary anti-eco and swag's quick triple in middle then gave C9 a huge 9-0 lead with OpTic unable to find weaknesses in their opponents' defense.

OpTic finally found a way to one round and were looking great for another, if it wasn't for Stewie2K's triple in a 2v4 thanks to a smart flank in B apps. That allowed Cloud9 to rack up a dominant 14-1 half in the end, leaving zero room for error to OpTic.

Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas and company survived the first two rounds as CT, much thanks to Jason "jasonR" Ruchelski's 1v3 clutch in the anti-eco, but it wasn't nearly enough to mount a comeback as Cloud9 squeezed two rounds through and advanced to the upper bracket semi-finals with a 16-6 win.

Swag performed great in my opinion, he showed what he's capable of, and he hit what he should hit. We gotta keep in mind it's his first LAN in a loooong time ... #freebrax

Not his first LAN in a while, why does everyone make this mistake. He's attended fragadelphias and i think it was an IBP LAN a while back (and RGN where he won 2-0 with c9 against renegades)

haha I watched the game and wrote it since I knew HLTV would post this, I think Brax deserved a little credit for his game, so made sure I was among first comments :-)

Jason is IGLing and the new member. He should never have to carry OpTiC. Now, tarik's performance is troublesome, he should be the star, not the one with -16 frags (frags aren't everything, but when you're THAT negative you deserve criticism).

Optic are sad to watch atm. Terrible decision making, complete chaos mid round, brainless hero plays time and time again from everyone. Stewie is just 2 good for NA matchups, he knows them all so he reads them like a book.

Yeah, i wanna see a liquid vs c9. It would be interesting to see the 2 best NA teams play against each other on LAN.

+1 Stewie is the only (NA) player I know that improves his gamesense and adapts so quickly based on who he plays against (if he plays rank S with them, probs why he's very quiet in EU tournaments, he doesn't know their personalities and they are usually more serious when it comes to who can try an individual play). You could see some c9 players were surprised by some of optic's aggressive positioning but not Stewie. IMO he is the NA S1mple but with more impact because everyone else is shit lol
