G2 ease past OpTic in London

G2 Esports have moved on to Group A's decider match at the ECS Season 3 finals after defeating OpTic Gaming on two maps.

The first map of the series, Overpass, began with a successful A push from G2 in the pistol round, with Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon picking up three kills. The French team carried their momentum into the gun rounds as OpTic could not keep up with the pace of the Terrorists.

It was only ten rounds into the game that OpTic managed to hold G2 back for the first time, with Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic winning a very important 1v2 clutch in the following round to keep his team from facing an economic reset. Still, they were taken aback by Alexandre "⁠bodyy⁠" Pianaro's three entry frags in the next round, which opened up the A site for G2.

The French team kept on pressing and eventually hit 11 rounds, but the final two rounds went OpTic's way thanks to back-to-back triple kills from NAF.

NBK led the charge on Overpass

G2 piled more misery on OpTic by taking the pistol round as CT in dominant fashion, crushing the North Americans as they tried to enter the B site. OpTic were able to respond in the third round with a force-buy, courtesy of a quad kill from Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik.

It looked like OpTic had finally got some breathing room, but then bodyy stepped up. The 20-year-old picked up three quick kills with a Famas to reset OpTic's economy, and followed that up with a quad kill in the construction area, propelling G2 into an easy 16-5 victory.

The second map, Inferno, was a repeat of the first, with G2 jumping out to a commanding 8-2 lead as the rounds that OpTic edged out were few and far between. OpTic then finally managed to string two rounds together, but G2 regained control of the game and closed out the half with a 10-5 lead.

G2 further added to their lead by winning the pistol round and the subsequent anti-ecos. The first gun round then went OpTic's way, but they had no response to Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt's UMP in the following round. With their economy in shambles, OpTic were helpless to keep G2 from taking the map with another impressive scoreline.

Damn, that was brutal. G2 played some fantastic CS, but Optic were out of their depth the whole series. They really weren't expected to do much given the group they were in and also the fact that they've just lost JasonR, but being demolished like this has to be mentally crushing. A total of 11 rounds in 2 maps. Feel sorry for them.
