FaZe to ECS S3 grand final over Cloud9

FaZe are the first team to advance to the grand final at the ECS Season 3 Finals after defeating Cloud9 2-0 (16-5 on Overpass and 19-15 on Mirage).

The first semi-final of the day started out on FaZe's map pick, Overpass, with Nikola "NiKo" Kovač opening it up with two kills before his team grabbed the CT pistol round with a retake play in B. Given the bomb plant, Cloud9 were able to buy in the third round, which they won with an A execution.

The European team picked up the following round with another retake in B and continued to control the map as the North Americans kept trying to break their adversaries' round streak. When they finally did, for a 2-7 scoreline, Cloud9 managed to win one more to reset their opponents' economy and reach their fourth on the board.

A triple-kill from Finn "karrigan" Andersen in B opened the way for his team to build up another round streak, setting them up for an 11-4 half-time lead. When it came to the second half, FaZe secured the pistol round once again, now as Terrorists and with an A execution.

With a 16-5 scoreline on Overpass, FaZe got off to a great start

After losing the following round, Timothy "autimatic" Ta managed to save an AK-47, leading Cloud9 to force-buy. However, the North Americans could not prevent FaZe from reaching map point. Until the end of Overpass, Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey's team would lose one more round prior to the French player finishing it off with an impressive quad-kill in a semi-buy for a dominant 16-5 victory.

Mirage was Cloud9's pick, and despite losing the pistol round as Terrorists, the North American squad managed to win the subsequent force-buy. FaZe then also pulled off a force-buy of their own for a 2-1 lead. Nevertheless, a quad-kill from Mike "shroud" Grzesiek, including an important 1v1, meant another round in favour of his team.

The back-to-back moment stopped with Cloud9 eventually grabbing a 4-2 lead, but yet another quad-kill, this time from NiKo, helped FaZe reach their third round as CTs. However, the North Americans kept surging through their adversaries' defence, paving the way for a comfortable 9-3 score.

shroud had some important plays on Mirage

In the following round, both teams had a double-AWP setup, but it were Cloud9 who easily succeeded. From that point, Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert and co. effortlessly grabbed a stunning 12-3 lead until the end of the first half.

As for the second half, FaZe picked up their fourth pistol of the series in a back and forth round. By winning the gun round and the following two, Jake "Stewie2K" Yip's squad reached map point. Still, FaZe continued to overwhelm Cloud9's CT-side and reset their economy, although the North Americans nearly-closed out the game with pistols in the 26th round, and took the game to overtime with a triple-kill from NiKo.

In the first round of overtime, FaZe picked up their tenth round in a row as Terrorists with an A execution. After winning the following two, karrigan's men were ready to take Cloud9 out of the equation, which they did as they accomplished the comeback with a 19-15 scoreline to close out the series 2-0.

Yeah, all they had to do is just take a risk and maybe do something aggro and go for a pick in one round and they would have won :/

He had one good tournament. That doesn't mean they should keep him. My prediction is that the only reason he played this well was because he decided to retire, meaning he had no pressure to perform, but he did perform. Kind of like adren's performance with liquid when they made that final or semifinal run.

He might have some confidence, but valens has not done a good job setting him up to succeed. It could work if they get a new coach, but I'm certain that n0thing is becoming more of a dead weight than shroud. Both are still bad, but they can succeed with an Igl and/or coach.

Okay, I acknowledge Astralis is a great team, I personal an a huge fanboy of gla1ve, I am a Heroic fan, my favorite team. He is the only reason they were able to contest top 1 Denmark for that short period of time. Only reason Valde was any good. He is great at utilizing his teammates. Astralis is top 3 EU probably top 1 because FaZe hasn't really proven to be a reliable #1 even though they had a great showing today.
