ESL One Cologne viewer's guide

With ESL One Cologne set to start tomorrow, here are all the details you need to know regarding the $250,000 event.

The tournament will run from July 4-9 and will see some of the world's best teams, including the likes of SK and FaZe, battle it out for a cut of the $250,000 prize fund.

SK won last year's edition after beating Liquid 2-0 in the grand final

The first stage of ESL One Cologne will be played in a Swiss format, with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs, which will be held at the LANXESS Arena. While the quarter-finals and the semi-finals will consist of best-of-three series, the title decider will be played in a best-of-five format.

As for the talent team, Alex "Machine" Richardson and Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner will be the desk and the stage host, respectively, whereas Janko "⁠YNk⁠" Paunović, Chad "⁠SPUNJ⁠" Burchill and Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg will be the analysts. There will also be three pairs of commentators guiding the viewers through the action.

ESL is yet to announce the prize-pool distribution. Still, it is certain that ESL One Cologne will be the first event counting towards the Intel Grand Slam, which will hand out $1,000,000 to the first team that wins four out of $200,000+ tournaments hosted by ESL Or DreamHack.

I'm from Albania and I support SK as well that doesn't matter they play the best CS GO you can't hate them. I stayed up to 4 am sometimes 5 am to watch their games on ESL Pro League NA, and then I woke up on 8 am to go to school.

HLTV shows time on your local timezone. EDIT : that's what they used to do, don't know if they stopped now (because in the past when you got your mouse over the time it showed like UTC + something with the big cities of your timezone but now nothing happens when i got the mouse over the time).

Yes 2 games at the same time (ESL has two different streams) and if on your computer HLTV shows that game starts at 12h then it has to be a local time, time difference between Cologne and Sao Paulo for example - i don't know which city you are from - is 5 hours (Cologne is 5 hours ahead so i guess games will start early in the morning for you).

Whats the hype with the bo5 format though? For my money bo3 is optimal. In a bo5 youll see less even maps and more stompouts. It could be better in deciding the better team but as for viewing experience its not that good. Not to mention it takes too much time.
