OpTic to unveil European team - Report

OpTic Gaming will continue their Counter-Strike adventure in Europe with Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas accompanied by four new players, according to a report by Flickshot.fr.

With their Counter-Strike squad depleted to just two players following the departures of Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik and William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba to Cloud9, OpTic have decided to shift their focus from North America to Europe as they hope to get back to winning ways after a disappointing six months.

Oscar "⁠mixwell⁠" Cañellas, who had made no secret of his wish to move back to Europe, is the only player making the transition to the new squad, in which he will be joined by players from four different countries.

friberg will reportedly lead the new OpTic squad

According to the report, Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg, who was recently released by Ninjas in Pyjamas, will likely take over as ingame leader, reuniting with former teammate Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli, who had been benched by FaZe following Ladislav "⁠GuardiaN⁠" Kovács's signing. Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif joins in from North, who had moved the 19-year-old to a backup position, with PENTA's Kevin "⁠HS⁠" Tarn completing the roster.

OpTic's new squad will be staying in Europe, Flickshot.fr. adds, which raises many questions about their spots in ESL Pro League and in ECS. According to the Pro League rulebook, "ESL reserves the right to withdraw a league license from any team" if it "loses several of its players."

Yeah, that's the thing that excites me the most about all of this. Motivated Friberg = insane Friberg. If he can pick up calling, which I'm sure he's learned a lot from both fiffi and xizt, bring some of the aspects that threat brings when he's actually with the team in NiP I really believe he can excel at the position. The interesting part of it will be to see who will entry, cuz Friberg is the natural entry with magisk and an igl close to the action as an entry is usually an advantage in terms of calling.

HS is unexpected. I would've expected PENTA/KHRYSTAL to try and hold onto their #1 player... Now they're probably back to square one again. I'm also surprised KioShiMa isn't trying to be apart of this European lineup. Maybe KioShiMa will move back onto a French lineup like EnVyUS or LDLC. Anyways, OpTic just made a great decision to sway away from their disasterous NA roster into a international European lineup.

Gonna be interesting to see mixwell rifling again and friberg igling. We'll see if friberg will be good again in a new team, igling is likely the reason they chose him over dennis, seeing as how dennis doesn't like to igl. Allu will be god on awp as always, magisk will likely be great too. Biggest question mark here is if HS can play at a t1 level, he was pretty good in penta and actually one of their star players, I'm not sure if that's enough to end up in a possible top 10-5 team such as this.. Over all good lineup from optic.

Allu will be the main awper. Mixwell will go back to his roots and rifle again since he said he didn't want to be the awper anymore.

My take on this move: They don't have an IGL, so they will fail, you would think that Optic of all orgs would learn that the hard way. Optic: Yeah, we'll let Bot Friberg IGL, since he has experience at sucking for 2 years in NIP. *2 months later* So we'll be changing our roster. HS is unproven and he'd better show that he's legit. I feel like Optic cheaped out a little, friberg was free agent, same for allu and they had mixwell, so no extra money spent on buyout for them. I saw rumors that the buyout was 300k for magisk, but we don't know for sure and I doubt HS was that expensive. They should've gone for dennis and ange1 if they wanted a legit team.

This team is decent tbh. It depends alot about how friberg manages to IGL. Magisk, mixwell are madfraggers, if HS can frag, and ally play solid and be consistent, this could actually work!

This team should be named renegades. Will be fun to watch if they will be able to do anything. The huge problem here will be IGL obviously, other than that they might be decent. One player i would change right away is probably magisk, but we will see.
