G2 to DH Malmö semis over SK

G2 have advanced to the semi-finals at DreamHack Masters Malmö after beating SK 2-1 (11-16 on Cobblestone, 19-17 on Inferno, and 16-11 on Mirage).

The first quarter-final at DreamHack Masters Malmö was between G2 and SK. The Brazilians kicked off the series on the T-side on Cobblestone which was their map pick.

Fernando "⁠fer⁠" Alvarenga secured the pistol round with three kills and SK made it 3-0 after winning the anti-ecos. Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt's double kill and Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub' triple gave G2 the first weapon round but they got reset in the following round when Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo picked up a triple kill.

G2 have secured their place in the semis

Because G2 couldn't initiate a streak on their CT-side, they trailed 4-11 at halftime. Their troubles were compounded when they lost the first two rounds of the second half (13-4). SK made it 15-6 with FalleN's double kill and earned nine match points. The Brazilians closed out the map on their sixth attempt, winning 16-11.

The second map was Inferno where the Frenchmen started on the CT-side. In the pistol round, João "⁠felps⁠" Vasconcellos and Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David clutched a 2vs3 to win it. felps followed it up with an ace in the second round, making it 2-0. SK managed to win the first weapon round despite kennyS' two opening kills (4-0).

SK exit the event in the quarter-finals

Just like on Cobblestone, the French squad couldn't stop SK's T-side plays on Inferno and were behind after the first half (9-6). fer's quad kill in the second half pistol round made it 10-6 and SK won three more rounds to lead 13-6.

Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon showed up in the twentieth round with an ace and a 1vs1 clutch, winning his team their seventh round. SK had five match points but lost all of those rounds as G2 tied the game at 15-15, taking it to overtime. The Frenchmen completed the comeback and won the map 19-17.

SK made a thunderous start to Mirage where they were on the T-side in the first half. The Brazilians won the first five rounds but lost the sixth as they ran out of time. SK then lost a 3vs2, giving G2 their second round in a row (5-2).

G2 went on to tie the game at 5-5 but couldn't take the lead as fer picked up a quad kill to make it 6-5 in SK's favor. The French team won the first half 8-7.

SK won yet another pistol round but G2 responded in the first weapon round to get their ninth round (10-9). Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire got a quad kill to make it 10-10 and G2 kept dominating on their T-side and won the map 16-11 and series 2-1.

They threw the game, simple as that. 1 round, 2 maps, 1 championship they had big chances to win, without vp and Faze, Gambit without Zeus, Astralis in the semis could be a final, but ok, lets forget this game and let they remember this for the next. I think it's that m8. SK has more skill than any other except maybe G2, Astralis and FaZe version 6.0, which I think are matched. There is something else though. FalleN has a YT channel and in his channel you can see the most pros are predictable because they always go for the most safe play. They usually don't do crazy, stupid MM shit. But teams like G2 and Immortals just do random plays and that's really though to play against for a team like SK. On DH Malmo, SK should have won. They are not playing their best right now.

And I can only approve what you say here. Before DH Malmö and off season many great teams had changed, Astralis was in a bad form and G2 had still to prove themselves, so SK was the top contender. I would've loved to see them in the final ; having such a match in the quarter final is always frustrating because you know a contender is going to get eliminated this low in the tournament. That "random" aspect is interesting, I didn't really see that but it can be important too. In fact, it could explain the reason of these upsets from G2. Pretty cool to have a decent debate on HLTV, thank you :^)

You guys are completely clueless. SK's agressive behaviour inside any match will be in accordance to how much of an elastic score they have.. 5-6 rounds difference is "boring", SK enjoys the tight matches cause that's when they shine the most, they enjoy that type of pressure.. 15-10 match point, the pressure is on G2, so of course they're gonna push aggressively to pick out G2 players at the beginning of the round... This strategy has worked many times, it just failed this time.. They didn't lose the match on this point... They lost the match because they are uncalibrated as f* and they lose the focus / discipline whenever the match feels too easy.. They have to learn to be less adrenaline seeking sluts and more routine champion players (like Astralis..).. Who remembers SK vs FAZE, 13-2 CT for SK on train, and the match went either into overtime or 16-14 .. ? SK needs a coach, its the only way to put a stop to this small bit of rush-seeking arrogance.. It would have helped on the major too, when SK lost to Astralis because of Fallen's ego, being picked off at the beginning of every round by dev1ce.

G2 won this series because of apEX - hands down. Man deserves a medal and the MVP if G2 take this... he went absolutely ham.

How? TACO must be replaced ASAP. Even though he's a very good player, he can never step up like the rest of the team. He is and always was the worst player on SK.

Lul sk lost mirage To a team who had practiced it only a week before the tournament. I do respect sk but it seems they really have To be more confident if they want to beat tier1 teams. Maybe they just need a new coach. Thanks for throwing Greetings from france

I said g2 practiced mirage only one week before the tournament but that's because the map isn't in their map pool but it is in sk's. Mirage is a map that g2 are supposed to ban all the time so they don't practice it but against sk their map pool sucks so they had to play mirage and they won against all expectations that's it. Ggwp :)
