NBK: "apEX is leading on Mirage"

Our next interview from DreamHack Masters Malmö is with the first semi-finalists of the tournament G2, whose Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt discussed his team's journey in Sweden so far.

Defeating Envy and Immortals, G2 secured first place in Group D, where the Frenchmen also showed their wild card map, Mirage, which they had previously never played.

G2 faced SK in the quarter-finals earlier today and conceded the first map, Cobblestone, 11-16. On Inferno, the Brazilians were up 13-6 on the CT side, but G2 put up a great offense to take the match to overtime and force the decider, Mirage. With eight rounds on the defense and another strong Terrorist side, Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon's squad took SK by surprise and advanced to the semi-finals.

We caught up with Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt after the match to find out more about his team's journey so far and the reason for the inclusion of Mirage in their map pool:

Awesome how apex, nbk and body play at their best against SK. It's always shox and kennys doing great against another teams and the rest of the team is kinda apathetic. Against SK is quite the opposite always. Well played, as always.

Apex and NBK had all the key frags. Boddy usually plays better than normal against SK. Don't remember shox or kennys doing anything great on the last 10 matches. Quite the opposite, really. There was this game on overpass, not long ago, in which fallen made KennyS his bitch, and G2 still won.

I dont think bodyy played his 'best' but it was of cause a team effort. This time apex was absolutly key for their win, and as it seems also with calling. Well, they are just their kryptonite i guess. Someone g2 breaks through fallens game play, again and again. Its always fun to watch them play against ( atleast for me).

Imo, their secret is stepping the game of the 3 worst players up against SK. They are a lot worse against other teams because they rely too much on shox and kennys. Against SK, they almost never have to shine, the other 3 start playing as the should all the time.

Mirage IGL LUL, lets give every player IGL role for single map Apex Mirage NBK Nuke Shox Cache Boddy Inferno KennyS Overpass

tbh it makes more sense as it doesn't hold back one single IGL on every map and allows the team to be more diverse in terms of strategy, keeping the opposite team in a weird state where they can't counter-strat because they haven't encountered that type of IGLing before.

Well, that winning streak on mirage will come to an end once an IGL finally learns how G2 plays it to counter them. Before the match against SK they played it only once - against Immortals 2 days ago. I doubt apEX is so talented at counter-stratting and surprising his opponents as an IGL, otherwise he would've already been an IGL himself. I guess he learned something from Happy, because nV did play mirage, unlike G2, but it's just a temporal succees. Still gratz to G2 that they finally started playing mirage again after a long break.

Apex is already the guy helping shox with the calls, he already is the guy doing the smokes and strategies, and by the time they wanted to Play mirage shox was like, hey I dont know how to call in this map since I dont Play It quite often, so apEX stepped Up as IGL for this map. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised of apEX becomes the IGL of G2, some french Guy already called It. Bye what is he gonna learn from Happy, none has learned anything about him, never
