IEM Katowice with $500,000 prize pool

ESL has announced that the upcoming IEM World Championship event will have $500,000 on offer.

The news represents a dramatic increase in the prize money allocated, which will be doubled from the $250,000 that were on offer at this year's event.

The event will span six days and will culminate with the playoffs at the Spodek Arena, in Katowice, from March 2-4.

IEM World Championship will return to Spodek

A total of 16 teams will be taking part in this competition, with qualification details due to be revealed "at a later date" along with the format, according to ESL.

The IEM World Championship will count towards the Intel Grand Slam, a $1 million prize up for grabs by the teams competing in the ESL/DreamHack circuit. SK, G2 and FaZe are the only teams with an Intel Grand Slam point at this stage.

Astralis won this year's IEM Katowice event after beating FaZe 3-1 in the grand final, taking home the grand prize of $100,000.

The thing is VP are much better on LAN and online and if they dont get direct invites this team will not attend a single event because of all the online qualifiers. invite should be determined by how they do at Epicenter and major

AGO should be invited replacing VP. AGO is better than VP atm and more promising.

VP on lan atm is TRASH. We saw this today against SK without training with boltz. AGO we don´t know, so they deserves a chance, VP not.

If VP in a possible duel against Gambit in Elimination Match gonna crushed, they definitely don´t deserve more invites at big tournaments.

There are so much time until the tournament. I think the organisers should wait the maximum to decide what Poland´s team will be invited. If AGO improve a lot until there, they deserve a chance. For sure, AGO would have all the crowd with him.

They will invite VP anyways even though i agree they don't deserve it right now. Maybe they can hand out a starting slot through a poland only qualifier so AGO may can qualify. If not, AGO still could prove themselves through the EU qualifier because that's what qualifiers are for.
