Immortals seek up to $1m for benched trio - Report

Immortals CEO Noah Whinston has set an asking price of approximately $1 million for Henrique "HEN1" Teles, Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles and Lincoln "fnx" Lau, according to a report from Flickshot.fr and ESPN Esports Brasil.

The North American organisation is currently listening to offers for the benched trio, who have confirmed their intention to link up with free agent Vito "⁠kNgV-⁠" Giuseppe and with TeamOne member Bruno "⁠BIT⁠" Fukuda Lima ahead of ELEAGUE Major Boston.

Together, Lucas "⁠LUCAS1⁠" Teles, Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles and kNgV- represent the core of the Immortals roster that finished runners-up at PGL Major Krakow, which gives them a berth at the next Valve-sponsored event. This has drawn the attention of a number of parties, from private investors to esports organisations, but a deal is nowhere near completion at the moment.

It is reported that some of the team’s suitors are baulking at Immortals’ valuation of LUCAS1, HEN1 and Lincoln "⁠fnx⁠" Lau (as a package deal), and also at Mr. Whinston’s deadline of November 7 for the deal to go through, and as a result they could pull out of negotiations.

Immortals won't let their players leave on the cheap

Valve has also set a deadline of November 10 for teams with "Legend" status to submit their rosters for the ELEAGUE Major. At this moment, everything points to 100 Thieves losing their spot at the Major if the players are not bought out of their contracts by that date.

Any organisation or investor interested in securing 100 Thieves’ services will also need to reach an agreement with TeamOne for the transfer of BIT, who has been moved to a backup position by the Brazilian organisation as he looks to resolve his future.

it is overvalued either way. the org that bought them wouldn't start profiting even if they won one major and got sticker sales. which is obviously not guaranteed. it doesn't matter they won't be sold at this price. their value will drop after the major because they won't have the spot and probably then they are bought out or leave. there will be 3 majors next year. better to miss the first if you are one of the players.

Consider this, the OWL which is a shit show requires a 20 million buy in not counting salaries, housing, travel and equipment. 1 Million for a major spot and a good base for a team is nothing to be scoffed at. It may be overpriced for some but its nothing irrational, easy way to make yourself a name in esports.

I would agree but i would also argue that if they are still being paid then said contract will finish out but if payment stops that contract is either void because of both party's agreeing to do so or an indefinite suspension of said contract only preventing them from playing for another team in csgo whereas they can still very much go find a job or stream to try to make money. Regardless if they aren't bought out by the 7th then he will keep them till the contracts run out at which point they will be unable to compete for the major due to the November 10th deadline.

They refused and Noah stood his ground. Which he's doing once again. They're gonna have to make a choice last minute take part in the major or not. If they want to take part of the major, they will probably have to do so under the immortals org since they won't be bought out at that price. If someone is retarded enough to pay one mil for those three then Noah is gonna be laughing to the bank with this. This is a BUSINESS. Noah is handling this exactly the way he should.

Thanks for the +1, nice to see someone else understand this aspect. I don't agree with how it's being handled for sure, but the thing people don't seem to fully understand is that for ORG's players don't matter... the #1 Priority is making profit at the end of the year, not loosing money. Sucks that they don't just accommodate and break the contract, but look at ANY professional sport, Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Football, American Football, w.e a player doesn't just get let go for nothing, It's either for a shit ton of money or for quite the trade in return. It's the players rights to request to leave, but it's the org's right to get what they want in return. Contracts are there for that very purpose. ORG'S won't throw money out the window.

Yeah I know, but I believe that in this very specific case it is not all about the money, Noah made it very clear in his last statement that he cares a lot about their principals and values, therefore I wouldn't be surprised if he refuses to let them play at the major even if they agree to do it, I mean, they are kind of "fired" you know? It is not like he would let them play as he knows they would never "do their best" for the org and have (IMO) low chance of maintaining their legend status, if the trio (twins + steel) actually play on the major with boltz or other two, I don't see them getting trough groups, they are not practicing anymore and have a lot of internal issues. So I believe that Noah already knows IMM won't be represented at the next major and by what it looks until now villa mix team won't represent another org either. At this point I would recommend the villa mix core to help their future org to buy them out spending their own money, salaries and future salaries with their future org if they really want to play in the next major, otherwise I don't see any other way out of this complicated situation. Like someone else said before, I would love to see them playing the next major, this villa mix team is a solid tier 2 with all skill and experience needed to beat convincingly tier 1 teams, but props to Noah, I would do the same.

Do you have any idea of how pro contracts remotely work? Sure they can stay at home not do shit get paid their monthly salary until the contract runs out if it keeps going like this. But that's not all the contracts represent. There are bonuses and incentives included in every pro contract. Finish X in EPL you get X amount more direct in your pocket. Qualify for _______ tournament you get ____________$ more. For them it is easy money because they are that good. If the current immortals roster qualifies or gets those incentives, they are paid out to the player who are actually playing so they won't get shit. There's a reason why Noah is holding them by the ballsack. He's asking 1 mil because of the Major spot as well, after major should they not be bought out he's gonna drop the price. Like it was mentionned above, IMM just payed a shit ton of money for OWL spot. Money isn't an issue for the org and there's a reason why, because financially speaking they are on point. They know where not to loose money and where to make it. It's only logical and very expected.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I doubt anybody will pay that much for a major spot in the space of a week. I guess what I find really harsh is that once they don't attend this major, they'll become much more undesirable as a team since their lack of professionalism will no longer be outweighed by the fact that they're guaranteed a major spot. People won't want to hire them, move them to NA, deal with the bad publicity, etc - when they're not even guaranteed to attend the most prestigious event of the year. I don't know what the trio are gonna do, but I only see a dark future for them.

Yeah but the problem is his current roster won't make the Major anyways so setting that high of a buyout when his organization is financially unstable according to investor reports is unwise. He should have set a more reasonable buyout at 750,000. Let them be bought out and play in the major, his roster won't make it anyways, take the money and rebuild. His vendetta against these guys is going to cost him A) a lot of money and B) ruin his reputation amongst the CS community, a lot of players will be scared to sign with his org after how he treated these players, whether they deserved it or not.

Financially speaking you're right, but maybe he's doing this just before their contracts are expiring ? Like a one shot call. And if it doesn't work then they'll be free anyway after this major. If it works he gets a lot of money and if not then he'll teach them a good lesson. I'm not sure people are afraid of this org just because its players failed to represent it with integrity. Also I think 1m for three players of this caliber is a good offer. Especially knowing that they will be at the next major, they'll get some of that money back + all the marketing they can do around them. One thing that could cost their future org is that maybe sponsors are a bit reluctant to sponsor these kind of players and looking at the response from the community about these players, even the community isn't too fan of them now. These guys have really fucked up...

If you estimate that to be a positive Net Present Value (and you can afford $1m in cash) then go for it. Edit: If I was an org owner with $1m to invest I still personally wouldn't invest in them. Whether rumours/stories are true or not these guys have a bad rep and no business wants a bad rep as it reduces revenues and sponsorship possibilities as other companies might not wish to be associated with them.

It is Noah's decision to do this, and he has every right to do it. With this, he is sacrificing the ability to make money off of selling these players off their contracts early by setting the price ridiculously high. He knows that if he sets a price that people will buy, he won't be making much, and there is still a low chance of an org buying the trio. With this, he ensures that they are not able to participate in the major because of their actions, but his organization still gets a lot of money if they are able to sell them off.

I will tell you guys how I see this situation: They would be an excellent team (but im not sure if they would win a Major). There's just a problem: fnx and the twin brothers are skilled players but they lack discipline. Fnx already had a problem in the past with parties and alcohol. The twin brothers are going in the same way as fnx when we talk about discipline. Fallen, fer, taco and cold just reached the top because they have discipline and commitment, thats why they're pros. Im not sure if fnx and the brothers will have the same commitment. I might be wrong, but thats my opinion.

To those saying Immortals CEO Noah Whinston would never hold a player hostage, that he's a saint, blah blah blah. Not only he's a self entitled drama queen but he's stupid as well. IMT survives because Venture Capitals give him money and what has he done? He ruined IMT LoL team by being a virgin and managing to get kicked from LCS. Now IMT's CSGO division is irrelevant. He could have reduced losses by asking for something reasonable like $200k but he's asking for something no-one will pay for. The trio will move on with life and most probably play in the major after the next one and IMT will remain the same irrelevant org. Except they just spent another $20mil of investors money joining Overwatch League. As an investor I can tell you his track record is horrible. Failed to build a brand in CSGO and LoL after burning ~30mil investors money. Good riddance.

Tbh 1 million for players of that caliber is not unreasonable. Fnx is a two time major winner and twins are very good players too. If it were anyother players with same skillset orgs wouldn't even think for a second before buying. But these guys are known to be reckless, unprofessional and party animals. Im not sure whether these players are capable of bringing in any sponsers even if they are a top tea.
