'shox - Journey of a Legend' documentary released

VaKarM released an hour-long documentary about Richard "shox" Papillon's career, which was produced by Guillaume "bomox" Fleury.

The documentary that is titled "L'Histoire d'une Légende"—which translates to "Journey of a Legend"—follows Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon's Counter-Strike career starting with the early days and leading up to the point he is at now.

Guillaume "bomox" Fleury and VaKarM collaborated on the movie that took a year to put together. Alongside shox, three guests are featured in the documentary to talk about their history with shox: his "mentor" Sebastien "⁠KRL⁠" Perez, his longtime teammate Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeaux, and his father Patrick Papillon.

World's 3rd best player in 2013, 8th in 2014, 13th in 2015, 6th in 2016 and most likely in the top 20 in 2017, although not as high. Not many players have won a major, have been at some point the best player in the world (late 2013), have been relevant in the scene and won tier one tournaments for five years in a row. Look GuardiaN might be my current favorite CSGO player ( or is it FalleN ? ) but seriously ... He never won a major ? And his span of dominance lasted a lot less than Shoxie. Olofmeister is the same despite several majors, a 1.5 years era of dominance ( and 1.5 year is generous btw more like 1 year ) and now he is consistently FaZe's weakest player, often worst than Karrigan who leads... And he was shit for monthes too with fnatic before that.. He had the "skill peak" component ot the legend but to me it must be "prolonged during an extended period of time" to make you a legend, and for olof that is debatable. Coldzera already has achieved more than him and his team ( LG back then ) emerged barely 2 years ago..

you look at the stats i look at the game in the context of G2 being a top team within the top5 world, G2 are like C9 inconsistent , unability to grind games, tilt easily, constent forcebuys (wich is a clear sign of lack of strats left in the book on normal gun rounds, they dont play clever, all this team rely on is fire power wich will get you les and less far in cs tournament as the meta become more and more tactical, pistols get nerfed ect... this team was made to not only win but dolminate the scene, so far they have shown they lack nearly everything to be a top team but fire power, G2 is the C9 of NA, shox has been terrible since forming this team and G2 can thanks kennyS for being the only consistent factor wich anable them to go off randomly and win tournament ... shox is by far the worst IGL a top french team has ever scene, even how low i rate happy as one

Man, if you’re honest, look their results against top teams Out of the top 5 teams, they have incredibly positive results against SK/Astralis/North, being only unable to beat Faze (atm only I think because I feel that in the few next tournaments, they will find the key to beat them) And if you look at how they played since summer break, they had some incredibly strong runs, even in epicenter where they finished 3/4, they had that dominating performance you speak about, even if they loose against VP but guess what, no team can beat anyone at any time. Same for their runs at ESL pro league, it was a dominating performance, same for malmo, ECS season 1 (and Kenny wasn’t here to carry) and same for EPL s3 So yes, they can’t do it each weeks, but be honest and tell me who can actually ? And the reason is pretty simple : every team in top 10 has some opponents they match poorly against, and in modern CSGO, I don’t see it being otherwise. And rhat’s The main reason why I think that there won’t be another era anytime soon. So yes, winning 3/4 t1 events a year and placing top 2 or top 3/4 in a few others is where you wanna be actually The only thing they need to work for is regained no legend status for a long time.

I'm not a fanboy either. I just like the way G2 plays, even when they loose. And i prefer that to the boring excute style of Astralis for example, so yes, it is, by definition inconsistent. And if you think that i'm a fanboy, i think that you are in the exact opposite mindset. It's just free bashing anytime someone speacks about G2 or Shox. People have to realise that there is no good french IGL at the moment. So you can accept that the best french team has to play this style and win sometimes, playing a good old explosive style, or you can be perfectionist and cry for some changes that wouldn't be better at best but most certainly would be desastrous.

the problem is not there is no good IGL in france, the problem is the players have to big of an ego to fit into a system (appart from a few players) you say there is no great french speaking igl in france ? let agree to disagree, especially in this tactical era, you give ex6tenz the astralis roster (if only he could speak danish, and i bet he would do great thing but in france, problem isnt the IGL, its a bit like NA, player are more intrested by fragging, because creating strats, perfecting you teamplay demand time, work, maturity, patience, everything the french (overall again i do not speak for all of them) lack ... maybe it will get better in the future, maybe they wont need and they will prove that this lose style will dominate the scene and its not just a style of IGLing for players that still live in 2014, maybe they will do that, in the mean time, they can go win some tournaments and crash completly in the next one, if thats the trace you want to live and be remembered once you retire, go on then, but you cant blame me for expecting more from thoses guys, especially with their talent, sadly waisted so far

If all you said was true, they wouldn’t even have worked, changed mapool, changed roles this past summer The pint you don’t actually realise is exactly this one : when they have time to work, they do it, and got results because they have sick skill and they often break the meta. When they are in the middle of 3 monthes where you have 3 weeks of LAN per month and all the online games to play, they don’t have time to work on their playstyle. And gueSs what ? I think both of you are "kinda right" , there is truth in both of your arguments. G2 clearly are one of the teams with the most firepower ( I'd even rate them above Astralis just with SK and FaZe on that aspect ) but their strats are kinda bad but their choices are even worse. WTF with this "forcebuy every round" typical french style ? Worst thing is that it works often enough to let them consider continuing doing it. But I think their inconsistency comes from their cultural ( french/latin ) background. They are both a bit lazy and also have this typical french propension to see themselves better than they really are after a big performance... which usually puts them immediatly in a slump.. Their mentality is the main problem : typical " we are world champs before even playing the matches " french mentality ( because they had some good results ).. If they can fix that and work a bit harder they will be consitent top3. And I also wish let someone else lead and went back to crazyfragging, because that's what he does best.

i agree with that, but i dont agree that they win their forcebuys consistently enought to validate it, since the pistols nerf, they are really struggling to make it work, and shox doesnt not seem to have an answer to new game plan, even with the armada of analyst, coaches (that he choose himself) he has at his disposal.. wich is why i dont believe in shox as a great igl

taking only majors into account? I have to agree that, in comparison, for example in LoL, the Worlds are more important than any other tournament and should be a detail of importance, but the Major is just a 1,000,000$ tournament with stickers. You forget he won ECS S1 in 2016, got close to win on a big bo5 where he was amazing during EPL Finals. He got a great performance last year overall, was a great player in 2013-2014, a great player on css as well. Of course this year he’s not good but it’s blatant he’s not comfortable in his IGL role. He could get his level back if he stops IGLing and he’s a real legend.
