FaZe secure a tight win over G2; OpTic defeat Gambit
FaZe edge out G2 after a thrilling map while OpTic plow Gambit following a 0-5 start on Train.
G2 didn't have an ideal start in the game against FaZe, the match between the two favorites of group B. The European mixture was able to rack up a 6-0 lead after Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer closed out the pistol and gave his side the early game economy lead, which Finn "karrigan" Andersen's team used to great effect on the CT side of Overpass.
Kenny "kennyS" Schrub opened up round #9 with a knife kill as G2 opted for a force-buy B execute, and ended up closing out the round as well with a total of four frags to make the score 7-2. Force buys were traded back and forth in the middle of the first half, but, somehow, G2 was able to pull out a respectable 9-6 score to finish the first half in the end

Richard "shox" Papillon and co. dropped another pistol in the second half, but an underpass play spearheaded by kennyS in the first buy earned them a foothold in the match. As the map went on, the Frenchmen's aggressive setups proved tough to deal with for FaZe, who repeatedly lost men early.
After G2 took the lead (13-12), FaZe found themselves in a favorable 3v2 post-plant on A, but were denied by a sneaky play from Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt. Just when it seemed that G2 was going to close it out, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač showed up with two kills to open the round for his side, FaZe were able to break the bank of the CT's and close out the game 16-14 from there.

Gambit was firing straight out of the gates in their first match of IEM Oakland, going 5-0 up after winning the pistol and handling OpTic's double AWP in the first buy. With momentum fully on their side, the Kazakh side went for a B play, got into a 4v3 afterplant position, but allowed OpTic a way into the match with some sloppy play.
The Europeans grabbed that opportunity and started adding rounds up, tying up the score shortly, and the rounds coming more and more convincingly as the match progressed.

After finishing the first half with 10 rounds won in a row, OpTic were able to bring over their momentum into the second half thanks to Aleksi "allu" Jalli and Adam "friberg" Friberg turning a 2v4 situation in the pistol rounds on its head. The ex-Ninjas in Pyjamas duo was the main driving force for OpTic on Train, alongside Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas, and they continued producing as the game went on.
OpTic gained a 13-5 lead before Gambit were able to add a couple of rounds to their name, but the game was closed out shortly with a 16-7 scoreline.
