FaZe pass Renegades test, G2 outlast Gambit after double OT

FaZe have survived a tight match against Renegades, who nearly mounted a comeback from a 2-13 deficit on Train. Meanwhile, G2 outlasted Gambit after a double-overtime battle on Overpass, 22-19.

The last round of day one in Burbank saw FaZe and Renegades play their third match of the group stage on Train, with the European mixture getting off to a flying start despite Justin "jks" Savage's 1v3 clutch in round three.

With a few close rounds, including a 1v1 from Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács and Finn "karrigan" Andersen's 1v2, FaZe secured an 8-1 scoreline before Renegades found a way to their second round. karrigan's squad were quickly back in the driving seat, locking down the rest of the half for a 13-2 lead.

FaZe survived a scary comeback attempt from Renegades and clinched their third win in the round robin

On the back of a pistol round win, Renegades started mounting a comeback and racked up eight rounds in a row with a confident defense. FaZe then opted for a quick B attack and grabbed their 14th round after a close retake scenario, but Renegades reset their economy shortly after.

FaZe took their time to secure match point with a slow A split at 15-13 and GuardiaN's triple in a lower bombsite explosion strategy gave his team their third win today.

Gambit went up 5-1 at the beginning of their match against G2 on Overpass, where the Kazakh squad played as Terrorists at first. The Frenchmen soon equalized the score at 5-5 before Abay "HObbit" Khassenov and Rustem "mou" Telepov broke the streak with win in a long 2v4 situation.

G2 clinched two out of the remaining three rounds of the half, switching over to the offense with seven to their name. Gambit then picked up the second pistol and Bektiyar "fitch" Bahytov saved a hairy anti-forcebuy with a 1v3 clutch, sending his team to a 12-7 advantage.

apEX finished the match with 47 kills to his name

Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt's 1v2 clutch kept G2 in the match even if they got reset in the next round, as Kenny "kennyS" Schrub's triple in the following forcebuy helped the French side turn the tables. The AWPer's clutch in the 26th round made the score even at 13-13 before the two teams split the next two rounds. It was G2 who clinched match point first, but despite a poor economic situation, Gambit took it to overtime with just pistols.

G2 took their opponents off-guard with quick-paced attacks at the beginning, with Gambit later trying to answer to aggression with aggression without success. Richard "shox" Papillon's team grabbed two rounds on the Terrorist side, but Gambit replied with two of their own to force overtime number two.

Starting as CT this time, G2 strung together all three rounds in the second set, with AWPs in the hands of kennyS and NBK- doing most of the work. That allowed the Frenchmen enough room to breathe to grab their first win in the group stage at 22-19.

Win = 3 points OT Win = 2 points OT Loss = 1 point Loss = 0 points so lets take the G2 vs Gambit game, since the game went to overtime, neither team can get the full 3 points since neither managed to win during normal regulation (which was the original Best of 30 rounds), and the winning team in Overtime can only receive 2 points, while the losing team in Overtime can still receive 1 point (because the 3 points you can win in normal regulation gets split to 2 and 1 points in Overtime) and since G2 won during Overtime, they only got 2 points while Gambit gets 1 point for losing in Overtime. I think this points system can sort of guarantee more chances to qualify for the Quarter Final spots since overtime losses can still give you points So lets say you have Renegades and Liquid having 1 game left and whoever scores higher will earn a spot in the quarter finals, Renegades with a 2-0-0-2 record (6 points) and Liquid has a 0-1-3-0 record (5 points) after round 4, even if Renegades won 2 games and lost 2 games from normal regulation (which is 6 points), if liquid were to win their round 5 match and it puts them ahead w/ a record of 1-1-3 (8 points) renegades will need need atleast 1 more win in normal regulation (which is 3 points) in order to guarantee their spot in the quarter finals ahead of liquid in groups Another thing that could happen is that liquid finishes groups w/ 0-2-3-0 (7 points), then renegades with a 2-0-0-2 just needs to win during overtime atleast (which is 2 points), and if they lose in overtime (which only gives them 1 point), they will both be tied with 7 points and whoever will get to the quarter finals will depend on round difference (or a tie breaker match), or if renegades lose their last match in normal regulation (which is 0 points) then liquid will still qualify with 7 points (0-2-3-0) over renegades with 6 points (2-0-0-3) them since liquid got points off of losing games in overtime (which still gives them 1 point each OT loss)

RNG making the top teams sweat. It could've been 3-0 or 2-1 for them, but this is fine too. The boys are proving themselves day by day, that's for sure!
