FalleN shines as SK beat Astralis to win BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen

SK Gaming came from behind to beat Astralis 2-1 and win BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen.

The first map of the series was Mirage, SK's map pick, where the Brazilians got out to a quick 2-0 lead on the CT side. Astralis then replied on a shoddy buy, with Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth and Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen overturning a 2v3 situation in the following round to tie up the game at 2-2. Even after getting their economy in order, SK could not get a footing in the game as the few rounds they edged out were immediately countered by the Danes, who strolled to a 9-4 lead.

And that's when the dupreeh one-man show began. The 24-year-old won back-to-back clutches, the first one a 1v3 in the connector thanks to a double AWP kill through a smoke, the second one a 1v4 on the B site, putting his team up by seven rounds at the break.

Astralis piled more pressure on their opponents by taking the second half pistol, but SK rallied back immediately courtesy of a quad-kill from Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo. That was the start of a phenomenal run from the Brazilians, who won seven rounds straight to bring the deficit to a minimum.

With almost no room for error, Astralis tightened up their defense and began stringing rounds together. FalleN had a great chance to put SK back in the game, but he missed a clean shot in a 1v2 situation, allowing the Danes to reach match point - with Xyp9x dealing the finishing blow with a quad-kill.

Next up was Inferno, which followed the same pattern as Mirage as SK took a 2-0 lead but were then caught off-guard in a round that clearly should have gone their way. Astralis took that chance and eventually picked up the lead, but as things were beginning to get out of hand, SK reasserted their grip on the game.

The Brazilian giants exerted great banana control for the rest of the half and utilized a variety of different paces to keep the Astralis defense in check, with the only two rounds that the Danes won coming off of individual plays from Markus "⁠Kjaerbye⁠" Kjærbye and Dennis "⁠dennis⁠" Edman.

Down 5-10, Astralis kept themselves in the game with a successful B split in the pistol round, and they followed that up with the subsequent anti-ecos to bring the deficit to just two rounds. But after buying up, SK ran away with the lead as they could not be stopped until they reached 16 rounds thanks to another great streak.

dupreeh was on fire on Mirage, but Astralis could not close it out

The decider map, Cache, began with a mid to B split from SK that was denied once they approached the site, with dupreeh picking up three great frags in checkers. The Danes' fantastic run continued going into the gun rounds, with the scoreline blooming to a 9-0 advantage as nothing the Brazilians did seemed to work.

After calling a tactical pause, SK finally managed to get a round on the board, taking advantage of the mobility that a pistol execution provides. That round sparked a massive run from the Brazilians, with the half ending in a surprisingly close 9-6 scoreline.

Carrying their momentum into the second half, SK won four of the opening five rounds to equalise the score at 10-10. Astralis then picked up the pace and eventually reached championship point, but SK remained calm and collected, and won the 30th round following three great kills from FalleN - who by now had taken his personal tally to 32 frags on the map.

SK began overtime on the defensive side of the map, taking a 2-1 lead, and they followed that up by winning two rounds in a row as Terrorists to lock down the map, 19-16, and the series.

I wouldn't call it lucky tbh. Do you remember the major final fnatic vs EnvyUs at Cologne 2015? On dust2, Envy was up 7-14 when KRIMZ clutched a 1v3. When he got the second kill, I already knew Envy was going to lose the entire series. Same with LG vs Liquid. I don't think it's luck when a comeback is obvious.

Sometimes u can see the momentum slips away. Teams starts doubting themselves. Maybe its a quality of fallen..? That he is able to show an extra form of power in those tight situations. But its fishy that it always happens in certain points. There is a pattern.

Fallen was just there wherever they went every single round, not even good reads just astralis going A every single round 2. they didn't win due to individual skill excluding fallen 3. cold and taco were actually exploitable on B, its just that astralis never went there, but nonetheless showing the B defense was poor 4. gla1ve was actually usually poor, and his strats were off as well, probably because of the crowd congrats to the team winning against a stand in on three maps with the last one taken to overtime. you won't see it happen again

all this reasons are why SK was the better team, but this are also the reasons why they won a lot of other tournaments this year. I don't understand why it's undeserved. You are saying that astralis playing bad don't make SK a good team but astralis was the best team throughout the tournament. Astralis win maps, SK win tournaments.

I know, but i believe thats the game evolved a lot. I think that the csgo players needs to study much more the game than it were necessary in 1.6. The level that fallen plays, for example, spawn or heaton never played. Maybe they had more potential than fallen and if they play now they would be better than fallen, but we will never know. Fallen has won more majors than both but has had nowhere near the success they had in 1.6 so how can he be the best player in all versions of CS?

If you want to talk about players who can do it all look at coldzera, Niko, Device. All of these guys are amazing riflers and decent awpers. Fallens skill ceiling doesn't come close to that of coldzera, Niko or Olofmeister (old olof). I get you are a massive fan and are really happy he won but don't say stupid stuff like that and then try to back it up.

Hasn't been one yet. But currently it would have to be someone who has played at the highest level in 1.6 and GO. This means lots of tournament wins and a high performance. This means someone like Neo and F0rest or even Get_Right. I've left out a few but I honestly can't think of/choose one. Fallen can go down as the best igl in CSGO history. I also think he should go down as one of the truly great players in all of CS History - I say this because of what he has done for the Brazilian scene and for the entire scene. I'm so unhappy with the fact that SK always needs someone to go super saiyan to win events. Astralis did a much better job as a team, as expected. But whenever fallen decides to really play CSGO, cold thanks God he is playing alongside and not against him.

I'm fine since SK has so many players that can go super saiyan.

It's still sad and poor from them. They should be able to play collectively.

they probably didn't have enough time to get accustomed to bolts yet. if they play sloppy like that 2-3 events from now then it would be worrisome. for now they pull through mainly because they have some of the best players in the world.

Don't know if you really watch them, but I do watch them a lot. They were always like this. Final Fantasy players. First goes fer, if he dies, then fallen goes. If he dies, boltz goes. It's MM tactics all over. Every other tier one team is a lot better than SK as a whole. The problem is no one is actually capable of out-aiming them (you go and try to out-aim coldzera, fallen, fer and boltz lol).

when sk was still known on the forums as the "team that only wins bo1 and can't win a single bo3" their most prominent trait was their extremely slow and methodical t sides. they were probably the only other team beside navi that would run the clock down to 20 secs before executions (like they did once in OT on cache). even after they started getting success with the fnx, cold lineup they were giving a lot of credit to their system. they started playing way more loosely mainly because of two reasons: 1. they started getting anti stratted hard after they became successful. 2. they got felps who is agro like fer. now that they got boltz back who is a passive player i wouldn't be surprised if they attempt getting back to their roots.

Being loose helps them A LOT whenever fallen gets intel on the other teams. But that system costs them many rounds until they understand the other team. In other words, the many, many maps SK is getting 0-5, 0-7, 0-9, could be played with some standard tactics before they start playing anti-strats loosely. Their beginning on almost every map is ridiculously bad.

dupreeh screwed up on round 29 or 30 (can't remember which) on de_cache. He thought he got a headshot at truck, turned back, realised his mistake, got the kill and got traded by FalleN. Put his team in a 2 on 1 situation with the bomb down and that's where Astralis lost the map and the series. I don't know why they don't hide after bomb plants. Constantly got traded and getting killed after bomb plants Cache. Too much aggression. They basically let SK back into the game.
