DreamHack announce 2018 Open circuit details

DreamHack will hold eight Open events in 2018, of which seven will feature CS:GO as the main title, the organizers have announced.

The 2018 DreamHack Open circuit remains largely the same as in 2017. Eight locations across Europe and North America will play host to next year's circuit, as opposed to nine in 2017, with the Denver stop discontinued.

However, the Leipzig stop in January will not feature CS:GO because of its clash with the ELEAGUE Major taking place January 19-28.

For CS:GO, next year's DreamHack Open circuit will begin in Tours in May

The format also stays, as each of the $100,000 events will feature eight teams, six of which will be directly invited and the remaining two will come from qualifiers in Europe and North America. In some cases, there will only be five invites and one wild-card team coming from a region not covered by a qualifier.

Every tournament will begin with a GSL group stage, with BO1s in the upper part and BO3s in the lower, followed by single-elimination playoffs - no changes once more.

Here is the full list of DreamHack Open stops featuring CS:GO in 2018:

France DreamHack Tours - May 19-21
United States DreamHack Austin - June 1-3
Sweden DreamHack Summer - June 16-18
Spain DreamHack Valencia - July 12-14
Canada DreamHack Montreal - September 7-9
United States DreamHack Atlanta - November 16-18
Sweden DreamHack Winter - November 30-December 2

DreamHack will also organize two Masters events next year, the second of which has already been announced; it will take place in Stockholm's Ericsson Globe from August 29-September 2.

Dreamhack ESL ESEA are 1 company. People need to understand. Dreamhack Open Circuit are meant for tier 2 teams + few tier 1 Dreamhack Masters are for Tier 1 teams.

its not because it's the same guys at the head of those 3 companies that they all have the same budget you can do the exactly same event and results won't be the same depending on the name of the org ESEA event will boost up esea sales ESL event boosts up ESL in general, so if you have new ladders or LANs comming out on different games, it's better to pick ESL works like this. And obviously sponsors aren't the same for ESL or for ESEA. You also have sponsors that have a deal with faceit in which it says they can't have one with ESEA since it's the first opponent way way more complicated than just "its 1 company"

That guy said "Dreamhack cant compete with other orgs in terms of money." That is false, that is what i wanted to point out. ESL and DH used to be competitors, but ever since MTG bought them, they advertise each others events on each others streams as well.

if you own 3 companies each have its own capital, you can't mix all 3 capitals to make a big one and do whatever you want and it's not even one guy owning 3 companies, it's loads of people owning shares and the guys with DH or ESL shares won't give a fuck about ESEA and we will be very mad if ESEA uses ESL's money to make an investment or a LAN

Calm your tits fellas. ESL (the parent company) uses Dreamhack as a platform for lower-tier teams to inject more teams into the pro-circuit eventually. It is sort of like the minors, to the majors in baseball. We get to see new talent, and newer teams play against a few top teams, and other low-tier MDL teams.

Yeah, I forgot MTG bought them out, but originally before 2015 -- ESL was the parent company. Either way that's what MTG is using Dreamhack's platform for. It's not supposed to be crazy serious like ESL, or IEM tournaments.

Apologies. I should be a bit more precise. I was mainly talking about the Dreamhack Open tournaments my friend. Which is what I thought what this post was about, but that's my fault for not being specific. No offense to dreamhack or anything, as it was just my observation -- which imo you guys are one the most entertaining events to watch at the moment! The name nix0n sounds super familiar. Didn't you play for mTw, and a few other famous danish teams back in 1.6?

I know exactly who he is at the moment, but seeing as this was about Dreamhack open, and not masters. His reply was completely irrelevant to the subject, but I was also not being specific in my postings. Hopefully no offense was taken, and we can all move on. Dreamhack is honestly one of the most exciting platforms for events, and most of the other tournaments become boring & stale after watching for an hour or so. They make it fun, and more laid back. The competition is serious, but it's not boring in the way the present it is all I was trying to explain. PS: It just kind of dawned on me that I used to see his name in the old pro matches from 1.6!
