With 2017 now behind us, our video editor Radosław "MAKKU" Makuch has put together a highlight reel of the top 10 individual plays of the year.

At the end of 2017, HLTV.org's staff got together and rated the best individual actions of the last 12 months to make one big compilation of the finest plays of the year.

Unlike the previous two highlight reels, this time around there are players featured more than once: Astralis' Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen and SK's Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David, both providing two stunning plays to this top 10. Eight of the individual plays you are about to watch were produced on LAN, with no event providing more than one highlight.

A highlight can be "worth" more if it is performed in a high-stake situation imo. You cannot separate it from its context. Otherwise we would just have lucky aces by low level teams dominating the top plays.

Listen i am not saying that only the importance matters, but i am saying that a great play can be even greater if it is done in a very important situation. Dosias play could not qualify here. It was very smart of him but top highlights normally require actual kills made by the player as well as high level demonstrations of aim. Getting five usp headshots or an ace with awp is MUCH more common than a (hs only?) deagle ace, and EVEN in a final. So if i look at the top plays dupreehs deagle ace was by far the most difficult play to pull off, and no question the best highlight of 2017.

Oh so now you are saying that in order for a play to qualify you need kills right ? Well xms did a much better play 5 shots 5 headshots plus a 1v3 clutch and minors are important no matter what you say (nip can't go to a majors because they cant even make them for 2 straight majors) Case closed. Show me a play that is good enough for this top10 that does not contain kills? I simply dont think that is possible to find. "xms did a much better play 5 shots 5 headshots" BEEP! FALSE! it is endlessly easier to make 5 headshots with a usp than with a deagle. If you have played the game you will know that. In terms of difficulty, dupreehs play is better. Maybe xms looked cleaner or whatever but imo difficulty is a more important factor.

Thanks for a good laugh. Xms play was better than dupreeh's but its a danish site so its biased. And also dupreeh's first kill was a deagle spray (impressive) 2 kill was a simple body shot. 3 kill was crazy and 4 was amazing too. 5 was a regular LE deagle spray. Xms play was better because it was more difficult and much more precise. And if you want to talk about importance then hobbit's clutches against immortals should be number 1 because importance and because it was major finals right ? Bullcrap

hObbit's play was nowhere near as good as dupreeh's still. that deagle ace is honestly one of the craziest deagle aces I have ever seen. And if you add in the fact that it was in such an important match and AGAINST RIFLES, well then it's a no-brainer and a clear #1 pick. As to your comment about HLTV being a danish (based) site and therefore being biased: I'm pretty sure the people picking these top plays are from a wide variety of countries, at least judging by how international the writer's staff is.

Jdm, nifty’s plays deserved better rankings, personally jdm 1v5 best. I thought plays like f0rest’s ace against mouz would be here and a few others but I forgot. Dupreeh’s deagle ace is underwhelming, he got a headshot off the recoil and 1 juan but the rest were just bodyshots, to be honest I wouldn’t even consider it top 10 plays. Dupreeh's ace was #1 for many reasons: -First, they were 4 headshots consecutively and very fast without missing shots against a full buy -second, the overpass game was about to be lost for Astralis as they were shattered economically, but that deagle play allowed them to secure overpass, and potentially the entire series.

That xms ace remains one of the sickest clutches I have ever seen. It's just so incredibly clean with 5 bullets and all HS's. But at the same time, it was also borderline stupid. GuardiaN knife was the greatest highlight of the year and it's not even on the list? what a joke dupreeh's deagle ace was ok but should've been way lower if at the list at all, it was like 70% luck anyway coldzeras clutch against mouz was not even close to a top 10 highlight and his ace was too high on the list overall a pretty bad list 3/10, decent edit though

Of course it matters. Dupreeh aced vs FaZe on an eco vs a full buy whereas xms did that vs Kinguin at a minor. Skillwise XMS play is much better but it was a lot less impactful

I have to say im a little disappointed, not only because in my opinion there were many Highlights that should have been on that list but were not, while some clips definetely didnt deserve to be on the list, but also because of a mediocre Edit and incredibly abysmal Music, unworthy of the beautiful Plays that have been made throughout 2017. Good edit, but the rankings could've even better in my honest opinion. F0rest Deagle + AK ace on cache is definitely missing. Coldzera's #3 is over-rated as well as Dupreeh's #1 as for me #4 by s1mple was way more impressive than both of them. Also, I feel like XMS' should've gotten #1. What he did is something we'll not see in a very long time. With that being said, overall a good video but rankings were poorly done here and there, but then again, it's just my opinion.
