StarSeries i-League S4 to feature Bo3 Swiss stage

The SL i-League StarSeries S4 event will kick off with a best-of-three Swiss stage, Starladder has announced.

In a statement, Starladder explains that it sees the best-of-three format as an "improvement" as it eliminates the prospect of "random best-of-one results", and stated it will be implemented as "an experiment".

The Ukrainian event will feature a bo3 Swiss stage

The Swiss stage will feature 16 sides and five rounds of matches, with three victories guaranteeing qualification for an eight-team single-elimination bracket.

"Hopefully, players and viewers will enjoy the format in our tournaments in 2018," Starladder added.

The SL i-League StarSeries S4 event will run from February 17-25 at the Kiev Cybersport Arena, with the Swiss stage being played over the first five days of the event.

On Twitter, Starladder chief Yehor "pANdA" Kolomiets wrote that the possibility of reseeding the teams after every Swiss round will be discussed with players in the weeks leading up to the event.

TYLOO and MVP PK, the Asia Qualifier finalists, are the first two teams confirmed for the Ukrainian event, which will have $300,000 on offer.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the Swiss stage would feature three rounds of matches. It will be played over five rounds, with teams requiring three victories to qualify for the playoffs.

Way to go. I just didnt expect Starladder to be first, but i have to give them credit, hopefully they will handle it well. I just hope there wont be many weak teams as it is not that much fun to watch C9, SK or whoever in bo3 vs some t2/3 teams. BO1 are way too random, one or two offgames and you are done. And yes.... major seems like tier2 tournament, compared to this :|
