ESL agrees streaming deal with Facebook for EPL and ESL One

ESL has announced that moving forward, two of their main CS:GO products will be broadcast on Facebook.

Following a year of ESL's CS:GO action being streamed on YouTube, the tournament organizer has announced that in 2018, their ESL Pro League and ESL One content will be streamed on Facebook.

Big events such as ESL One Cologne will from now on be broadcasted on Facebook

In the official announcement, ESL points out that Facebook's new additions, such as Facebook Watch that allows streaming in 1080p/60FPS and features such as "viewing with friends", make Facebook an attractive platform to broadcast gaming content.

ESL and Facebook have made a deal for the next four seasons of ESL Pro League, meaning that the English and Portuguese streams will be accessible exclusively on Facebook until the end of Season 10, scheduled for December 2019. Along with that, the broadcasts of ESL One tournaments, in both CS:GO and DOTA 2, will also be exclusive to Facebook.

However, having a Facebook account won't be necessary to watch ESL's content, as embedded streams will be accessible at live.ESLOne.com and live.Proleague.com. It is also worth noting that, with no mention of IEM in the announcement, that tournament series most likely won't be streamed on Facebook.

ESL One Genting, a DOTA 2 event, will be the first one to be broadcast on Facebook, with the ESL Pro League, which starts on Feburary 13th, being the first CS:GO competition set to be shown on the new platform.

Agree... YouTube was totally fine. I even recommend Twitch with trash company Amazon behind more than F***book. However, money rules, so F***book payed a lot or presumably the same, but ESL wants to try out a new platform. Not a bad idea, but since I don't like Facebook at all and I would see them rather disappear from the landscape, I'm not a fan of that decision.

for me Twitch is far superior to YT with features like audio only stream or theatre mod , also chat is much more entertaining and isnt laggy as hell even when 200000 people are spamming simultaneously also I dont know why but I can easily handle 1080p twitch streams while sometimes YT streams are buffering every few secs on 480p for me etc ... Azubu baught this french streaming service, I think hitbox or so. Azubu has done major shady stuff, like signing streaming contracts with alot of korean LoL and SC II pros and then never pay them. They also signed contracts to stream CS:GO stuff and never payed the TOs the money, meaning no prizemoney in the end for the teams/players. No, its normal. Brithis PL makes Billions by selling their "streaming" rights. Its is how every sport finances major parts, by selling the broadcasting rights. If you want big prizepools and big tournaments, you will need to sell streaming rights in the future. Have you seen the numbers for Blast Pro Series? They made 8 Million Danish Crones (arround 1 Million $) by getting tax payer money. They only made 1.5 Million danish crones by "TV income" and 3 Million crones by "sponsors". Without the tax payer money, they would have made arround 500k $ net lose. Which organiser, who does not get tax payer money shoved in their ass can fund this? Yeah, Valve majors, because !drop and the free prizepool money from valve, but else? You either sell your streaming rights or you go bankrupt, if you are not a rich TV network or money launders from russia. Fuck Twitch. These lazy asses sit on their close to monopoly, havent improved their services for years and are still a shit streaming side. They qualitiy is just garbage, in low regions like 360p they look like 144p potato streams, while youtube and even fucking bad shit azubu looked watchable in 360p, while their high qualitiy streams 1080p are not open for everybody and the bitrate is so low, that every 1080p stream looks like a upscaled 720p or worse. Still you cannot rewind automaticly, there is still not "live" button, embedding doesnt work, the video/VOD section is quite terrible and still has bugs and buffers, they still mute videos due to played music (at least in my country) and for fuck sake they only build on their shit app instead of fixing the site. And what is their app for? After first installation it puts itself into your autostart, so you can directly play minecraft out of it... disgusting. I had high hopes for twitch after amazon baught it... but they did nothing to improve the quality thanks to the monopoly. On the other hand, youtube has great crystal clear streams and great features for the viewers. Man even freaking azubu was better in term of stream quality, and azubu was the greatest junk of earth in all other regards. That ESL streams on facebook is great, the more exclusive deals youtube and facebook make, the more is shit twitch forced to step up their game.

People are lazy asses and still use google to type in webstie domain names. It does not hurt when some small tournament move over to youtube, but it hurts when major CS:GO events moved away, when Blizzard would stream Overwatch exclusive on their MLG player (another player better then Twitch) and Tencent streams LoL only on Weechat (biggest lul, would laugh hard). Twitch needs to be put in their space, or they become the microsoft in streaming, a company that someone named after his dick and acts like that. Only doing the minorest thing needed and answers everything with "go to linux, lul... oh you dont know how to do that and needed software doesnt run there... poor you". Twitch currently has an undeserved monopoly and thus gives mediocre user experience. I would rather watch a major on Facebook live (disgusting, I know) than having everything on twitch. I am always so glad when an event is streamed on YouTube and not on twitch. With a mediocre bandwith and bad connection with interrupts, YouTube streaming is so much better than twitch. It's barely possible to watch on twitch (buffering, reloading, ... yes, even with the "Auto" setting - it sucks). On YouTube it's just fine. I really hope Facebook got their shit together and their streaming & buffering is as good as YouTube's, but I highly doubt it.
