tarik: "I'm normally a level-headed player, but I was losing it [at the end of Inferno]"

We caught up with the HLTV MVP by Betway, Tarik "tarik" Celik in a live interview after Cloud9 clinched the trophy at the ELEAGUE Major, becoming the first North American team to win a Major championship.

The grand final started off on Mirage, where Cloud9 started very well but ended up losing the match 14-16 before the series went to Overpass. Despite the map being FaZe's pick, Cloud9 seemed comfortable and equalized the score to push the match to Inferno, the deciding map.

There, Cloud9 came back from a 11-15 deficit to force overtime, where they clinched three rounds in the first half. The Americans couldn't close out the match, however, as FaZe came back with three in a row on the CT side, but the second overtime saw Cloud9 grab two rounds on each side to clinch the ELEAGUE Major trophy.

After the match, we did a live interview with our Most Valuable Player, Tarik "tarik" Celik, to get his thoughts on the series:

Same here with CNX. Life got on the way and all its left for a few of us is get in touch here and there mostly, except for like 2 or 3 of us (out of 12) that play CS:GO together. Our social media is inactive and I'd say closed because it's really not a thing anymore. Sfsbeast / Motions / N!ghtwish, however you like (problems of having more than one name lol)

Aye word I remember you thats lit. And yeah its hard to keep it together after the game shut down, but the nostalgia is very heartwarming every once in a while. It's hard to believe its been that long lol wow. I would be almost 5 years in ST6IX if the game was still around.... I still go back and watch old videos sometimes, and randomly members like Ploblitz, Tennis, Funk will do the same and hit me up. I'm still super tight w/ rich and Antony, we talk pretty regularly.

So many people were doubting the move to bring in Rush and Tarik too who would of thought Tarik would turn into a Top level IGL and not only that but the biggest fragging IGL in the world. I was even questioning it at first I always thought it was going to be a better pick up than keeping Shroud and Nothing but never seen this coming.

C9 got lucky, SK were basically shit this tourney due to stand in and brazilianess, faze were just faze overhyped as usual and g2 are not a "superteam" Lol. C9 on home soil with the crowd to assist them when it mattered (which was a lot). SO enjoy, c9 will not win another major with this setup EVER again. Mark my words. (I'm a NIP fan, so no bias) JUST LOGIC> OOOOOSH.

C9 got lucky has got to be the mosot hilarious thing I've read yet. You like watch any of the games previous to the Faze one? All C9 did was show they are a major force to be reckoned with going forward. There is a new super team in town. There's no way after this major you could rank them outside of the top 3 in the world. Absolutely no logical way.

Do I think C9 can win another major? No. But to say it was a fluke is BS. They played against the fourth best team in quarters, best team in semis, and second best team in finals. Yes, it was very, VERY momentum based and the home field advantage. But this was a truly deserved win by C9, and for their goal to be consistent top 4 in tourneys is realistic. If tarik would have said they would start winning every tournament, I could understand a backlash. But this was one helluva tournament from C9. I think Skadoodle should have gotten the MVP, but hey, they won. Who cares lol.

Why is everyone so pissed that they won ? Did you guys watch their games or what ? They were not lucky, they played amazingly well their teamplay was excellent, bait & switch setup, perfect timing when flashing for each others they just were on point. They reminded me of the old EnVyUs/LDLC with that constant-aggression when they all were on point, except that C9 had many tactics and didn't play all "into your face" counter-strike. I enjoyed watching them even though I didn't expect them to win I was not even cheering for them at the start but they were just better at this event and I am glad they won because they deserved it (strong fundamental CS + great individualities + good strats). I was rooting for SK but you could easily see that playing with felps made them breakable, they played below their standard. But they couldn't play with boltz, so get over it. It doesnt change the fact c9 played really well.

Great interview. I dislike the gamestyle of this C9 roster but I'm still happy to see them play so well and win by sticking to it. Besides, the third map was extremely exciting to watch :) Faze just have to pick up the pieces, and try to learn from this defeat.

I'm happy that C9 and NA got their major, but I don't think they will be a top 1 contender. SK back with their full roster, Astralis back with Device 100%, G2 if they fix their mistakes Shox seems to be back and of course Faze. Anyway, very happy for them, it's good for the scene as a whole.
