StarSeries round three matchups drawn

After the last two matches of day two at StarSeries came to a close, Starladder drew the matchups for tomorrow's round three, which will see two teams advance and two teams get eliminated.

Day two in Kiev began with an upset in the form of TYLOO defeating fnatic 2-0, with Virtus.pro later facing issues against a huge underdog MVP PK, who took the Poles to a very close series that was decided after double overtime on the third map, Nuke. In the remaining two matches of the 0-1 pool, HEROIC passed HellRaisers, while Liquid defeated Renegades in a three-map series.

The first two matches of the 1-0 pool, played during the latter half of the day, saw Natus Vincere edge Gambit while MOUZ grabbed their first ever victory against SK. At the end of the day, FaZe made short work of Cloud9 in the rematch of the ELEAGUE Major grand final and G2 rounded out the 2-0 pool with a win over Astralis.

In another rematch from the ELEAGUE Major, Cloud9 will face SK

After the last two matches, the draw for the third round took place on the stream, most notably pitting Cloud9 up against SK in the 1-1 pool. G2 are set to play MOUZ and Natus Vincere are on a collision course with FaZe for the first two spots in the playoffs, while Renegades vs. fnatic and HellRaisers vs. MVP PK will see the first two teams get eliminated.

Here is the full draw of the third round:

I mean, it's at the same time as Faze-Navi, so it wouldn't get any viewership whatsoever.

blame the teams for losing their matches, not the system. the way i see it, every team (except navi based on other form) is facing a team they have a fair chance of beating. thats a fair and solid system

you can't blame the teams. C9 is in 1-1 pool because they lost to FaZe. So If it wasn't C9 it would be FaZe to be 1-1. The system is just bad because it's too random.

no, remember SK lost to mousesports, they shouldnt ever lose to them on lan Bo3. then you would have c9 vs mouse and SK VS G2. both amazingly fair matchups with 1 team being slight favourites thanks to initial seeding. SK are to blame, if they won, its a perfect 3rd round

So a top6 team trending to even better placements should never ever win against a top4 team trending downwards on LAN in your opinion? I hope for you you're not betting, mate.

Firstly Sk is a top 2 team and mouse is a top 8 team. And you do realise that was mouse 1st LAN map vs SK since july 2015? A trend doesnt mean anything if the gap in class between the two teams is so large, dont pay attention to placings, gap in skill and performance means much more. fnatic are 5th would say they have more than a 20% chance to beat faze or Sk in Bo3? ofc not Just like Faze vs C9 these results are soo unlikely to happen. a 20-30% chance for the underdog to win is terrible odds, so yes i'd use the word "never" to describe this.
2018-02-19 13:26

Thats the thing about trends and tendencies. Fnatic being 5th is nowhere near their standing in reality. SK is definitely not top 2 since they cant consistently beat the likes of faze, c9 and probably G2 anymore. Atm there is a vacuum, no distinguished top 1 team, and talking about rankings and capabilities of beating other teams of the same tiers makes near to no sense right now. Please explain the gap in skill between SK and mouse at the current moment, I can't really make it out except for Fallen's IGL skills being much better than Chrisj's.

Agreed, but it’s important. They need to face them more on LAN. SK and Faze are The teams. C9 need to prove that they truly deserve their spot in the top 5. Having said that, these draws for C9 have been rough compared to other teams though. We shall see! Let’s go cloud 9!

Someone has to get the short end of the stick in every format. They proved themselves at the major by beating all of the best oponents. I sort of hope they can upset sk here as well. Even though there might be some caveats of c9 winning the major final itself their major run is undisputed in regards of what teams they were facing. If they can pull a deep run here and still be able to bring it to the best teams in the world. Well that would validate them even further.
