Liquid beat Virtus.pro; Renegades send fnatic packing

Liquid move to the 2-1 bracket after beating Virtus.pro in two maps, while Renegades knocked fnatic out of the tournament on the B stream’s two map match.

The first round of the series between Liquid and Virtus.pro went the way of the North Americans who started on the defending side on Inferno. Three rounds later, on the first gun round, it was Virtus.pro who barely edged Liquid out, with Paweł "byali" Bieliński trading Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski out in a 2vs1 afterplant situation to get on the board. Virtus.pro then followed it up with a triple by Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski and an anti-eco the following round to tie it up, 3-3. Virtus.pro took the early 5-3 lead, but were stopped as Liquid adjusted their defenses and tightened the A site up, regaining the lead and going into the half with a three round advantage, 9-6.

The second half started with a 1vs2 clutch by Nick "nitr0" Cannella on the pistol round, taking Filip "NEO" Kubski and Snax to win the round and take the 10-6 lead. Liquid then won the first gun round and the anti-eco to set themselves up with a comfortable 14-6 lead. Keith "NAF" Markovic and Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski then won a 2vs2 afterplant on A to get on match point. Virtus.pro stayed alive with a 3vs2 retake on A the following round, but were unable to stop the inevitable as Liquid sealed the deal, 16-7, to take the first map.

Liquid now have a 2-1 record in Kiev

Mirage, Liquid’s pick, started with the American squad firing on all cylinders winning the pistol round, but a 1vs3 retake by NEO on the deagle buy put the Polish squad right back in the map. Up 3-1, Virtus.pro locked down mid and denied Liquid any chance of keeping it close early on. After five rounds in a row for Virtus.pro, finally Liquid got back on the board with a clean A execute. Liquid won back-to-back rounds to close the gap, but Virtus.pro pushed forward unrelenting to a 9-6 lead at the half.

The second pistol round went the way of the defending side, Liquid, who tied it up and then took two more rounds, for an 11-9 lead, before Virtus.pro could get on the board. Holding tight, the American side won five rounds in a row after giving Virtus.pro the tenth to close the map out, 16-10.

The match on the B stream, pitting fnatic and Renegades, kicked off with Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson tearing apart his opposition with a four-headshot USP-S ace on Mirage. Two anti-ecos later, fnatic were able to keep their slate clean after winning the first gun round for a 4-0 start. fnatic, who looked wobbly on previous days with losses to Gambit and TYLOO, didn’t give Renegades a chance. Ten rounds in, with KRIMZ at the helm, the Swedes were up 10-0. It was finally on the twelfth round that Renegades were able to get on the board with a play on B. The following round ended up in a 1vs1, but it Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson who outplayed Justin "jks" Savage to keep the Swedish team in charge.

With 12-3 on the board, Renegades stayed alive as jks and Aaron "AZR" Ward got doubles to take the pistol round. After winning the anti-ecos, Renegades were able to retake A site on the first gun round as Noah "Nifty" Francis and AZR didn’t let Robin "flusha" Rönnquist stop the defuse in time. Things started to look grim for fnatic as Renegades were mounting the comeback, bringing it all the way to a tie after winning nine consecutive rounds. A triple by Jesper "JW" Wecksell gave fnatic some hope, as they followed it up and got on 14, but then went on to lose against an ecoing Renegades that were able to defuse the B-site plant and bring it back to 14-14 the following round. With fnatic ecoing, Renegades on match point and sealed the deal on the thirtieth round as jks and AZR mowed the Swedes down in an A split execute to galvanize the comeback, 16-14.

Renegades survive to play another day

Cobblestone, Renegades’ match pick started off with Nifty and co. taking the pistol round on the CT side, but a triple by KRIMZ and double by JW, both with CZs and then picked up UMPs, were able to take the eco. Down 1-3, Renegades were able to pull off an A site retake to keep the early map close. With 6-6 on the board, Renegades once again took the lead, 7-6, prompting fnatic to call a timeout, as the teams traded rounds to close the half out, 8-7.

The Swedes won the second pistol round, tying the match up, and then KRIMZ was able to win a 1vs1 against jks during the first gun round for fnatic to take the 10-8 lead. Once again, though, Renegades started to take over as the map went forward, tying it up 11-11 and then taking the lead with a B execute the following round. fnatic won a couple more rounds, bringing it to the thirtieth and trailing by one, but were unable to take it to overtime as Nifty got two kills in a 2vs2 afterplant to close the map out and put the final nail in fnatic’s coffin.

both teams were fighting to prevent being eliminated, you'd hope that both teams would be fighting hard to win it out. Both matches were really entertaining to watch.

Why can't fnatic play well on LAN? They're doing pretty good in EPL.

Probably confidence related. I mean you can only lose so much before it starts affecting your mind.

They aren’t even winning online games anymore. Golden has run his cycle in fnatic and should be kicked in favour of Xizt

Don’t think anyone on Fnatic or even their fans have made any excuses. Krimz just wrote I’m done on twitter and JW said China numba one after the tyloo lost. Most Fnatic fans in these comments are basically just saying wtf Fnatic not making excuses but nt mr fake flag
