AVANT and Chiefs confirmed for Gfinity AU Elite Series
Gfinity Australia have announced the first two city-based franchises for Season 1 of the Elite Series, with AVANT and Chiefs representing Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
The two aforementioned organizations have added the cities to their name for the upcoming league, which is set to kick off in April. The Sydney Chiefs and Melbourne AVANT will field teams across three esports titles - CS:GO, Rocket League, and Street Fighter V.
Their teams will clash against each other in their respective games, alongside four other unconfirmed franchises (to be announced) for a share of the $450,000 AUD total prize pool in 2018 (~$353,480 USD), across two seasons.

Each season will run for seven weeks, with all matches broadcasted live at Gfinity's dedicated esports arena (Hoyts Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park) in Sydney, Australia.
Here is the involved parties' statements on the matter from Fox Sports Australia's announcement and AVANT's website:
“A weekend fixture where Sydney plays Melbourne is a part of our national sporting fabric. Following the growth and success of other sports across Australia, I believe a passionate Melbourne vs Sydney derby, combined with a storied history between Chiefs and AVANT will create Australia’s newest sporting rivalry.”
- Dominic Remond (Gfinity Australia's CEO)
“We’re proud to be among the first clubs to join the Gfinity Elite Series in Australia, and representing our fans and city of Sydney. Through the Gfinity Elite Series, our players can experience the privilege of donning a jersey for Sydney and representing this great city, as well as being a part of a famous sporting rivalry. We can’t wait to face off against Melbourne AVANT.”
- Frank Li (Chiefs' CEO)
"Gfinity is an established league which has shown great success in the UK, and we look forward to working with them to see the league grow to be one of the biggest in Australia. I am looking forward to seeing what AVANT can achieve with Gfinity Australia and we are thrilled to get the opportunity to represent the fans of Melbourne!"
- Wesley Collier (AVANT's CEO)
