Favorites secure playoff spots at V4 Future Sports Festival

FaZe, mousesports, HellRaisers, and Virtus.pro earned their spots in the playoffs on Sunday by placing top two in their respective groups at V4 Future Sports Festival.

Group A was the less stacked one of the tournament and kicked off with HellRaisers taking on Dark Tigers. The Czech team manage to surprise Kyrylo "ANGE1" Karasiow and co. and take a tie on the second map, Inferno, but that would end up being their only positive result from the tournament. By taking two map wins over GameAgents shortly after, HellRaisers were set for a playoff appearance on Sunday.

FaZe started off their tournament run a bit later in the day and didn't really struggle much, cleaning up Dark Tigers 16-5, 16-5 and GameAgents 16-10, 16-10. The final match between FaZe and HellRaisers only decided seeding, and the European team claimed the first place into the playoffs with a 16-10 win on Inferno.

MICHU is currently the best-rated player of the tournament with 1.37 from six maps

MOUZ started off group B with a match against x-kom, who showed some good stuff at their first international tournament, but didn't really threaten Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's team at any point. MOUZ split points with Virtus.pro later in the day, despite looking very dominant on Nuke (16-1) and starting well on Train, which ended 16-13 in favor of the Poles.

To secure playoffs, Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný and Martin "STYKO" Styk had to deal with their Czech-Slovakian countrymen from eXtatus, managing a fairly contested 2-0, in the end, to take first seed in the playoffs. Due to a lost map to eXtatus earlier in the tournament, Virtus.pro had everything on the line in the last game against their countrymen x-kom.

Krzysztof "stark" Lewandrowski and co. were on fire during the first half of the first map, taking an 11-4 CT lead on Inferno, but couldn't close out the game and Virtus.pro made a comeback spearheaded by Michał "MICHU" Müller. The final score was 16-14, and Virtus.pro followed that up with a 16-2 thrashing on Mirage to finish off the day.

Group A Pts   Group B Pts
Europe FaZe 10   Europe MOUZ 10
Europe HellRaisers 9   Poland Virtus.pro 8
Hungary GameAgents 4   Slovakia eXtatus 4
Czech Republic Dark Tigers 1   Poland x-kom 2

With these results, we will have the following semi-final matchups played on Sunday, after a day off tomorrow:

Olof is the one player that doesn’t choke in finals. He always has a stable rating. It’s Niko and Rain that are hit or miss in finals. They can be god tier on one map and then just disappear in the next.

Olof mostly has the worst rating throughout the whole tournament though, and usually in the final as well. (Karrigan not included)

Not usually, but as I said he is a stable contributor. He always has positive rating, maybe not the same top performance as Niko, but he also doesn’t disappear like Niko and Rain does in some final maps. A player always giving you 1.05 rating is worth more than one that gives you 1.5 up to the final and then 0.7 in half of the final games. Considering Olof plays the roles/spots that no one else wants as well.

to be fair, Rain and NiKo don't give 0.70 ratings, its mostly 1.20 and sometimes 0.95. Olof can sometimes get 0.85 in finals as well, he has had negative rating in the past 3 finals they played.... I'm pretty sure that right now NiKo & Rain > olof
2018-03-24 11:25

Over whole events yes they are higher, but it’s one of them choking that is losing Faze finals, it’s hardly Olof! Look at last final vs Fnatic. In the maps that faze lost it was rain bottom two times 0,8 and 0,7 rating and Niko bottom in the last with 0.39. Olof was the one giving them a chance to win on inferno. Sure rain and Niko has huge numbers on the maps they win, but when they lose they are the players that disappears, cant blame Olof here.

NiKo didn't have 0.39 in the final map? NiKo played great that whole final.... Get your facts straight man, olof lowest rated, even under karrigan

Please learn to read if you are going to be angry, I said that in the maps that they lost, Rain was bottom in two of them and Niko in the last one. It was the overpass map he had 0,39. Not in the last map. My point is that the two players who underperformed when faze lost maps was rain and Niko. Boosting average rating from going huge on the maps they are winning doesn’t mean much if they disappear on they don’t contribute when the team need them the most, in the maps faze lost. And Rain was lowest rated in the final vs Fnatic mr get facts straight.

yea but Olof didn't perform good on the maps they won, and also not on the maps they lost... so still rain and niko better imo. edit: They lost those maps BECAUSE rain and niko didn't play well, shows that they are more important
2018-03-24 13:51

Since Rain was bottom rated in total, obviously he wasn’t better in that final even if he played great on one of the maps Faze won. I’m not arguing that Olof is a better player than Niko and Rain, I’m arguing that Olof isn’t the problem that causes them to lose finals. That problem is that one or both of the star players rain and Niko goes missing. That doesn’t mean they are bad, it’s probably a mental thing at this point. Olof isn’t there to be the star, he does his job and puts up a stable rating, Rain and Niko are ment to be stars but they don’t show up sometimes, that is the real problem for faze

I guess, but I still feel like if anyone would be dropped from the FaZe roster, it has to be olof. GuardiaN NiKo and Rain are just too important, I know olof is very good at his role and everything, which is why I think that there won't be anyone kicked from the roster for a very long time. I still think olof is one of the weaker ones on the FaZe lineup. Everyone can have his own opinion though. Have a nice day :D

...and? Ca 240k/5=48k, let it be "just" 30 because (insert any reason here), so it's another 30k + you get to practice againts another team + you add another trophy to your list + you get bigger exposure for your brand/company, which results in better deals in the future. If they start ignoring lower tier tournaments, such "philosophy" may stay in their heads and they won't try at bigger tournaments as there is bigger pressure.

I agree that the 250k ones should be more but they are part of 1m grand slam. The grand slam tourneys are either 250k (too low but part of 1m if u win 4, 100k if u beat someone with 3 wins) or 500k (pre good)

1st of one group vs 2nd of the other. That's the way it is. And most tournaments favour the top team anyway. Like Faze played all the easy teams till Katowice finals.
