Cloud9 edge past G2 in double OT; NiP beat SK

Cloud9 and Ninjas in Pyjamas are off to great starts at DreamHack Masters Marseille after G2 and SK Gaming, respectively.

The second match of the day on the main stream, featuring the new Cloud9 and G2 rosters, began with the French side drawing first blood off of a stunning quad-kill from Dan "apEX" Madesclaire inside A. That was the start of a phenomenal run from the home team, who cruised to a 6-0 lead, forcing Cloud9 to call an early tactical pause.

The North Americans would be able to find a breach in G2's defence only in the eighth round, thanks to a triple-kill from William "RUSH" Wierzba with a CZ, and they followed that up with three more rounds to finally get some economic stability. However, the rest of the half was all about G2's great defence as the Frenchmen took three of the final four rounds to secure a 10-5 lead.

Cloud9 survived six match points from G2

Cloud9 came from the break with renewed confidence and bagged five rounds straight to restore parity. After a lengthy break due to technical issues, G2 took control of proceedings and secured three match points, but a 1v2 clutch from Pujan "FNS" Mehta rescued Cloud9, who would go on to force overtime.

The first overtime failed to determine a winner as both teams took three rounds on the offensive side. But in the second one, Cloud9 picked up two rounds in both halves to take a close win and seal passage to the group's upper bracket final.

Meanwhile, Jake "Stewie2K" Yip made his offline debut for SK as the Brazilian team took on Ninjas in Pyjamas on Train. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's side looked en-route to bag the pistol round after getting three kills early on, but Fredrik "REZ" Sterner and Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg turned a tricky situation around to put Ninjas in Pyjamas in the lead.

SK responded in the first gun round, but then some uncharacteristic missed shots with the AWP allowed the Swedes to rally back immediately and to take control of the economy. Down 1-6, the Brazilian team finally strengthened up their defence, losing just one more round for the rest of the half to take a narrow 8-7 lead into the second half.

draken was NiP's star against SK

Now playing on the CT side, Ninjas in Pyjamas equalised the scored after a successful inner bombsite retake in the pistol round. SK managed to respond on a shoddy buy in the third round of the half, but then William "draken" Sundin came up huge as he picked up three crucial kills with the AWP to keep the ninjas in control.

Ninjas in Pyjamas remained in the driving seat and took their lead to 13-9. It was only then that SK finally managed to string some rounds together, but the Swedes would not let the game slip away and locked down the map with a 1v2 clutch from draken in the final round.

Cum down it's only a bo1, G2 are looking strong and will do damage. shox made a huge mistake. There's no way a team with SmithZz and bodyy would be better.

Considering Ex6 is an actual IGL and NBK is a wannabe IGL who has bailed on it every time he's tried it before, it's not that ridiculous. SmithZz is obv a downgrade regardless of how you shuffle the roles etc. but they were actually going to make him a pure bitch-support player and not let him touch the awp, maybe he would be sufficient. Just removing shox, adding mixwell and giving NBK the IGL role doesn't feel like a worthwhile change imo, either way you should change two players to create a new team-mentality, otherwise you're still gonna have issues from the last lineup still persisting. Maybe the roleswaps and structure change is enough but idk, I don't have much faith in this one.

You don't need more than 1 support anyway, a support player is usually a guy that can't shoot so he has different aims in a server - to sacrifice himself, to throw grenades. If you have 2 of such guys you will need the other 3 be monsters which is not the case, because Ex6TenZ is a mediocre fragger just like SmithZz, and bodyy isn't much better. To rely on kennyS and shox is stupid. I know NBK gave up the role 2 times but now he actually wants to do it, so he will not give up once it doesn't work.

They don't need another madfragger. An NBK without the bullshit he brings to every team would be good. ex6 as your igl (he gets a frag on passing, aslong as he doesn't 5-22) smithzz is actually a decent rifler and solid support, no issue here. Shox god, Kenny god, I would say... I really wanna say NBK but... and RPK meh... zywoo maybe?

> They don't need another madfragger. Dude, if you look at all the tournament winners, they either had 3 really solid fraggers (SK, FaZe), or they had a balanced team (mouz, Cloud9, Liquid), but neither of them had only 2 good fraggers and 3 mediocre ones. Whatever brilliant strats you have - it doesn't matter, because you should also get frags. Once shox and kennyS are dead - there's nobody left to win a round. It doesn't matter if it's NBK or KIO or RPK or BODYY - they will fail, only the guys like ScreaM and apEX can make the difference. ZywOo? That kid is unproven, while G2 should already win titles, because Ocelote wasted so much on them already, and I doubt he will waste much more.

G2 failed because of fucked up leadership, not because of "too much firepower" which they btw didn't have since NBK and bodyy sucked, apEX was inconsistent and shox was driven by feelings and not by thoughts. shox' teams never worked unless they were led by somebody else.

#66 Dude, you do know what I mean. If it was just -NBK/bodyy +Ex6TenZ I wouldn't say a single bad word about it. But shox wants to replace his most skilled rifler with fucking SmithZz, don't even try to tell me you believe their firepower is enough to win titles.
