mousesports secure playoffs spot over G2

mousesports have eliminated G2 from IEM Sydney 2018 with a 2-0 victory (16-9 on Dust2 and Mirage) to move on to the event's playoffs.

The last series of day three in Sydney kicked off on Dust2, G2's map pick, with MOUZ winning a near-flawless CT pistol, but failing to follow that up in the next round as Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt clutched a 1v2 situation after finding two more opponents.

Down 1-3, MOUZ started tightening up their defence to eventually grab a minimum lead, 5-4. G2 still managed to equalize things off in what seemed to be a back-and-forth affair. Despite this, Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's men looked quite dominant in the latter stages of the half, stringing five rounds together to go up 10-5 by half-time.

Dan "apEX" Madesclaire opened up the second half with a clean quad-kill to help G2 pick up their T-side pistol, leading them to reduce the deficit to 8-10. In the first gun round, however, MOUZ got back to winning ways with a double-kill from Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný and Miikka "suNny" Kemppi, and, from that moment, there was little that G2 could do to stop them from closing out the map, 16-9.

mousesports will take on Renegades in the quarter-finals

Next up was Mirage, MOUZ' map pick, where the European mixture started things off with a successful CT pistol, which they capitalized on the subsequent anti-eco. Nevertheless, apEX played a key role in his team's eco in the next round, finding two-entry-kills with a Deagle, to counter their opponents.

MOUZ immediately responded with Martin "STYKO" Styk coming up huge with a Deagle triple-kill, yet G2 further added to their lead in the next two rounds, 5-3. Still, in three of the next four rounds, quad-kills from oskar, chrisJ and Robin "ropz" Kool inspired mousesports to lose only one more round, the final of the half.

In the second half, Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro could not defuse the bomb in time after a back-and-forth pistol round, encouraging MOUZ to quickly hit match-point without much response from G2.

NBK- then found a lifeline for his team with a MP9 quad-kill, but it was in vain as all that chrisJ's men had to do was to win a single round, which they calmly did four rounds later, 16-9, to book their spot at Qudos Bank Arena.

mouz just too strong, and shox fanboys (NBK haters) just can't stand losing. Should SK disband or change the IGL too? No? Because it's the only solution only for G2 and fnatic, right? shox will improve nothing with his buttfriend SmithZz.

At least when Shox was in the team they were the "1st phase best team of the world".. Now they can barely make it out of groups..

Yeah but after a few events they didn't make it out of groups with shox either. G2 just play very stale and boring cs on their T sides. They lack any kind of proper tactics and have done so through like all of the French iterations of the team.

The old g2 of shop scream rpk smithz body were the only team that went toe to toe with SK when sk were at their peak. All they needed was -smithz to coach and +Kenny but they did the massive shuffle and now both teams are trash

not against a pro team m8, moreover one match doesn't prove anything. KennyS is a much better AWPer and rifler.

Yep, Mouz and Astralis are the similar teams with nice strats and patience, and everyone in the team can contribute. Mouz is not as strong as they are in the previous months meanwhile Astralis is uprising so quick and seems unbeatable. I expected Astralis, Mouz, and NRG as the top 3 teams of this event, we will see who will get the champion finally XD.

Yeah, I would argue that they are very similar but Astralis have a slight advantage in everything. Astralis' star awper is slightly superior, they have better tactics, better chemistry (being all one country helps), more experienced and all-round more skill.

They certainly aren't favorite though, Especially since Astralis are also very strong on all their best maps , and like you said Sunny and oskar have been missing in action since Marseille ( included )

dude whatever they mixed french teams to create "the best french team" but they put in a bitch like NBK, they should have never split ScreaM & shox combo that year ScreaM&shox together was super, they just had to add kennyS and apEx and maybe a RpK or a mixwell in this case
