Luminosity edge out G2; through to playoffs in Valencia

Luminosity round out the semi-finalists at DreamHack Open Valencia after defeating G2 2-1 (Dust2 16-14, Mirage 8-16, Inferno 16-11) in Group B's deciding match.

The match for the last spot in DreamHack Open Valencia playoffs began on Dust2, where G2 won the pistol round as Terrorists but couldn't pierce through the forcebuy, starting off with a 1-3 deficit.

They then got reset as Luminosity added another two rounds on the board before the French-Belgian side started to string rounds together on the back of two triples and a 1v1 clutch from Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon, which inspired G2 to pick up seven out of the remaining eight rounds for a 9-6 lead.

The Brazilian squad quickly evened things out and retook the lead after clutches from Gabriel "⁠NEKIZ⁠" Schenato and Lucas "⁠steel⁠" Lopes. G2 fought back with two, but a lost anti-eco round saw them concede three rounds in a row, as Luminosity reached their 14th.

Kévin "⁠Ex6TenZ⁠" Droolans & co. still brought it back to even ground at 14-14, but Gustavo "⁠yel⁠" Knittel's squad responded with two B splits to finish off the opener in regulation and clinch the 1-0 lead in the series.

Starting with a 5-0 lead as Terrorists on Mirage, Luminosity looked to secure a sizable half, but G2 had other ideas as Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeauxand shox took over the following few gunrounds to start a streak of their own. It was only stopped at 7-6 with an A attack by the Brazilians, but G2 were quickly back on the horse with the last two rounds going their way.

Despite losing the following pistol round, shox continued his rampage with a double in the following force and two more down the line as G2 dominate on the offense. Luminosity could only win one round, courtesy of Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles's quad-kill, as the Frenchmen equalized the series at 16-8.

Inferno was left to decide it all and it was G2 to start off well as Terrorists, going up 5-1, losing to a full eco round in the process. Luminosity started clawing back on the back of opening kills from yel and a couple of actions from Lucas "⁠LUCAS1⁠" Teles, who mounted two retakes on A.

shox and Alexandre "⁠bodyy⁠" Pianaro then combined to pull off a halfbuy win with a full-force explosion on B, leaving Luminosity with low economy in the last two rounds, as G2 clinched a 9-6 half yet again.

However, much like on Dust2, the Brazilians quickly equalized the scoreline and soon claimed their first lead in the match at 11-10 after resetting their opponents after the first two gunrounds. Another reset scenario forced G2 into a shoddy buy twice in a row, and Luminosity went on a five-round streak to finish the match at 16-11, 2-1.
