As Timo "⁠Spiidi⁠" Richter will not be able to play the ESL Meisterschaft Summer finals, Mathieu "⁠Maniac⁠" Quiquerez will stand in for Sprout in the grand final against EURONICS.

The grand final of the German league will take place at gamescom in Cologne on Friday, August 24, as Sprout will clash with EURONICS for the $14,000 grand prize.

Having announced his retirement in May, Maniac will temporarily pick up the mouse again in his first official match in over three months before he returns to the analysis desk for DreamHack Masters Stockholm.

As the Meisterschaft rules require the majority of the lineup to come from the German-Austrian-Swiss region, Sprout have been playing the league with David "syncD" Slovacek instead of Martin "⁠PERCY⁠" Wessel, which will be the case in the grand final against EURONICS, as well.

That means Sprout will play the finals with the following roster:

Denis "⁠denis⁠" Howell
Niels Christian "⁠NaToSaphiX⁠" Sillassen
Dennis "⁠sycrone⁠" Nielsen
David "syncD" Slovacek (stand-in)

I was thinking the same thing. What they should have said is that Spiidi is unable to attend the event and will be replaced my Maniac, but because the whole German/Austrian/Swiss rule is in the mix, they fucked up the title of the article by implying ESL won't let him play. In actuality, PERCY is Danish and has been replaced by syncD (as the article says). Since Spiidi can't make it, they assumed people would think PERCY would take his spot. Since he can't (bc he's danish), the real replacement will be Maniac.
