kuben: "Not easy to play when you know you are going to change your line-up again"

Virtus.pro coach Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński has opened up about the team's current struggles following an early exit at the ZOTAC Cup Masters.

The Polish giants crashed out of the $300,000 event in the quarter-finals following a 1-2 defeat against MVP PK in what was their first tournament since picking up Michał "snatchie" Rudzki.

On Saturday morning, Virtus.pro revealed that Paweł "byali" Bieliński will step down from the team after the Major by mutual consent, leaving the team on the lookout for a replacement for one of their longest-serving players.

kuben stressed his players are still hungry to win

In a statement, kuben spoke at length about the issues the team has faced in recent weeks, explaining that they had only two days to integrate snatchie into the squad before travelling to Hong Kong for the ZOTAC Cup Masters.

"For two months already, we've been struggling with our line-up," kuben wrote. "In a difficult moment for us, Snax left the team. At that moment, we had a really limited choice of a fifth player for a stand-in.

"However, we managed to find a really good player – morelz. He's an extremely skilled and smart player, but we knew from the very beginning that it was just a temporary change, while our main goal was to get snatchie into the team.

"The Shanghai tournament was sort of a lifebuoy for us. With it, we could get points for the HLTV ranking, the points we're currently missing to make it to the top-15 (or even higher), which is required to get tournament invitations.

"When we went to Shanghai, other teams were already on holidays, and they started practicing earlier than we did. MVP, our opponent, had already been training with this line-up for two or three months, and this was their first LAN together, so, obviously, they were also really hungry for success.

"I am not looking for an excuse, I'm merely explaining why two days of practice after a ten-day break and a total unavailability of PCs were not enough for us to get into the zone.

"Despite the fact that we are trying our best, it's not easy to play when we know that we are going to change our line-up again after the next tournament.

"Our team can be called a family not necessarily because of the relationship inside, but for understanding each other as teammates, inside and outside the game."

Having failed to qualify for DreamHack Masters Stockholm, Virtus.pro have now set their sights on the FACEIT Major, where they will be competing in the New Challengers Stage.

kuben stated that the team will be aiming to secure Legend status - which would earn them a spot at the next Major, in Poland - and rejected suggestions that his players have lost the hunger for success.

"After returning to Poland, we will have five more days of practice and we'll try to play as much as possible to assure ourselves of a spot at the next Major, in Katowice," he added.

"The fact that we are not jumping on our chairs after winning a round doesn't mean we don't put our hearts into the game. We still have a passion for the game and we are still hungry to win.

"We still want to win just as much as you want us to win. The fact that we were the very top team in the past doesn't mean that we are not fighting to become a top team again, because we really are.

"We have been struggling for some time and we are not losing our faith. We're optimistic, and we believe that, one day, we will at least return to the top 10."

I AGREE with VP coach "Kuben" but i dont think teams like VP or MIBR will come back to form, they are just done.

"We still want to win just as much as you want us to" I dont want them to win , so that means they dont want too? Expected! High salaries for the old club boys , they dont giv-a-shiet.

people said that about VP several times, and then they STILL win a couple events a year, and go back to sucking. MIBR just won a 200k, not the best event but the still won. They might be overrated, and might not be dominant like they once were, but calling them "done" just sounds like fanboyism (or rather anti-fan of those teams)

many teams would be thrilled to have VP's current achievements, they just set the bar high for themselves because they have been consistently good and haven't had to deal with roster changes and slumps and rises like other teams have yet. But many teams would be thrilled to win this much: 3rd at IEM Shanghai 2018 2nd at CS:GO Asia Championships 2018 2nd at V4 Future Sports Festival 2nd at EPICENTER 2017 3rd at PGL Major Krakow 2017 1st at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas 2017 2nd at ELEAGUE Major 2017 1st at Adrenaline Cyberleague 2017

Yea all 2222ND :/ this hurt so much bro and imo when snax leave them and byali will leave... So bad for this team IMO pasha and neo should retire andthey should look for young potential like Michu or snatchie cuz for me they are gr8 players ;)

pasha is good, NEO and byali not so good but NEO is IGL...lately they are often very close to winning 2/3 maps but 1 player like NEO or byali will choke...I think with pasha and NEO, along with MICHU, snatchie and 1 new player (I hope Gruby or Furlan) they can be good

getting numbers by carrying against tier 99 teams, doesn't make you the best player. In the last several months, every time they lose in a big qualifier or LAN it is NEO or byali at the bottom of the scoreboard. If you think combined kill total is all that matters, than you understand CSGO about as well as you understand Deathmatch. NEO is a huge liability fragging too but they are too scared to get rid of their IGL it seems

Any examples of Byali being at the bottom of the scoreboard in qualifiers? My bad next time I'll use one of the many other metrics we, as fans, have to judge players besides stats.

byali cost them IEM Shanghai on LAN to start hltv.org/matches/2325161/tyloo-vs-virtus.. you can use the edit feature to just reply once and add to your post, instead of 2X. unless that is just something you like to do.

Also I linked LAN for a reason - to reduce the amount of low tier teams they would be facing And they're all on the same team so they're all playing the same matches therefore any time byali succeeds vs a low tier team his teammates had the same opportunity to. Your logic is poor.

so taking advantage of fragging hardest against bad teams and padding stats, but then when "have the same opprotunity" being bad against good teams...makes you the best. Now I got it thanks for teaching me how to logic.

Do you have any stats to support that he only frags vs weaker teams? That tyloo match is only one example, not indicative of the whole year.

I can link MDL matches that were poor from every player. And a few tournaments from each too. Of course he has some negative matches, they're TERRIBLE. Forgetting he is an entry fragger?

MIRB are already close to being back again... The addition of YNK is a key of new motivation.. Trust me on this one. However, Liquid, what's wrong with them? Seem to have all the necessary components but struggling to reach the top spots.. Liquid are more ''done'' than MIBR imo, even though I think Liquid are a good team!

Lmao don't compare mibr and liquid plz, liquid is top 5 team while mibr is top 10-15 struggling and wasting talent of the players, fallen just can't lead stewie or Tarik cuz they're agressive players and fallen have a passive style. And you say mibr is on the good way but i remember you that coldzera is leaving the team after the major

Fallen has a passive style? Since when? Hes one of the most aggressive AWPers and lead a team to multiple tournament wins with Felps who is literally the definition of a +W player. The team has been playing a looser style for over a year now they haven't had a "passive style" since fnx and it wasnt really passive they were just super good at taking advantage of any mistakes enemy teams made.

Lol stop cry, ok i will tell you but it would be easily if you analyse the match by yourself, you will better understand. The main strategy on fallen's CT side is to play very basic, and stun, like they are just fixing and wait ennemys and destroys them, not pushing or agressing that much. But what did the success of both stewie and tarik it's the aggressivity of their gamestyle and their solomove plays.
2018-08-27 02:23

Styles can change and be successful and Fallen is an extremely intelligent person he should know, and he does, that that style is no longer going to work with this lineup and will have to adapt into another strategy on CT side. Or Tarik and stewie could be versatile and learn not to be as aggressive on CT side theres plenty of options. Just because he called a certain way in the past that may not be successful in this lineup doesnt mean he can't adapt and continue to win.

They've tryed everything with stewie before tarik joined, they've also try coldzera to LIG, but nothing works. I hope for them it will pay off with tarik, but il not sure about it and how many times they will stay together. Sometimes drastics changes are needed.

Not to mention fer was known for his CT aggression. Theyve always had a solid mix of passive and aggressive players. They might have too many aggressive players now, that's possible although tarik doesnt seem that aggressive, but they were never a passive methodical team like Astrlalis, BiG, or older Navi
2018-08-27 02:20

But the fact is in the old version of mibr/sk it was only fer who play aggressive and the others just stay on their positions and wait ennemy tout destroy them, and it works cuz fallen or cold can do 4k many times beeing Aline without problem. But now they have 3 really aggressive players (fer stewie and tarik) so need to change gamestyle
2018-08-27 02:27

I mean fallen was very aggressive a lot of the time with the AWP too but I understand what you're saying. They have even more aggressive players now and fallen will have to adapt to that or Tarik could potentially learn to be a bit more passive on CT sides and let Stew and Fer do the aggressing. But your original point about Fallen not being able to lead players like stew and tarik is just unfounded speculation.

Yes that's the point i wanted to say, fallen continue to play like with passive players and stewie and tarik had to play passive but not a good Idea Imo xD

Is leaving? A report from flickshot doesnt mean that everything is true. Guys like u , are the same guys that i catch on the cafe talking about the football players leaving. It is the same, saying that Griezeman is "going" to Barcelona. I secure that he will not depart the team alone. (If he depart). If u see, now its a brazilian trio, and if they go to other ways, probably the team will end, and they never will play like they used to play.

Lol, so first, i dont fucking Care about football. And flickshot's reports are not randoms rumors, that's informations coming from the players. How many reports from nel was wrong plz? And how Manu right? Coldzera fer and fallen doesn't feel like a trio now, just keep playing together cuz of major spot. You can cry on flickshot and don't trust them, but you will see, After the major coldzera will leave the team.

And also, that's a normal thing that a very good chemistry team goes on separate ways one day, like virtus.pro golden five finally broked cuz players don't aggree with eachothers or like the happy/nbk duo in the past who give 2 fucking majors to France. There was an insane chemistry between this 2 players and they was always watching the game on the same way and all the team was going good because or them. When the chemistry end up they start struggle and lose all. 1 years later they go on separate ways but was a bit late, had to do this before. (If you don't understand what im talking about watch flickshot's interview of next, available with english subs)

Lol have you seen zotac cup. MIBR with 1 bootcamp and new coach looked super dominant (even though it was against kinguin etc.) They didn't lose a match and the teams didn't even get 10 rounds in most cases. Coldzera isn't departing after the major because him and Fallen figured things out.

no more taz.snax and byali after major in VP roster the question is why kuben is still coach in their team after 2 years of failures
2018-08-27 01:27

They should really remove kuben he is more in a cheerleader role than a real coach they dont take timeouts when they do neo is talking *edit get a coach that watches demos etc introduces new stuff and there might be something i doubt kuben has watched a single demo the last few years same with pasha byali

XDDDDDDDDD To be always Second again in many tournaments like Major..? Mate thye yould won last major and they was second. And imo next major also they wont win cuz Navi or Astralis will win this Faze is not top1 team and never was imo. If they would buy astralis roster... there will be good then :D

Why does the writer post that " in the beginning of every new paragraph, but not at the end? Just write on on the very top of the quote and one at the end! Yeah the roster changes are always something to struggle with, especially with people that were part of a team for a long time, they somehow define it. Best of luck to VP to come back to glory.

Regardless of anything, this line up will not be winning titles regardless of players that are going to be on it for a while

Yeah considering byali doesnt give a f about this team anymore it's 4vs6 vs every team on the major. Not like they would win with byali anyways. And with their form I would say it's 2 vs 8 for snatchie and michu.

VP is done, Poland ingeneral is done, the investment Virtus Pro put into its players turned players money hungry and the game became less important.

"The Shanghai tournament was sort of a lifebuoy for us. With it, we could get points for the HLTV ranking, the points we're currently missing to make it to the top-15 (or even higher), which is required to get tournament invitations." Even kuben knows that VP couldn't get into tournaments from online qualifiers.

vp are over seriously without snax and byali its not possible anymore... maybe a lineup of neo, snax, byali, snatchie, minise could do the trick.

SAD THAT MY TEAM IS DISAPIRING LIKE THIS. I REALLY ENJOYED TO WATCH THEM IN PLOW MODE. NOW EVEN IF THEY WILL BE WINNING IT WONT BE SAME. I JUST DONT FEEL IT ANYMORE, AND THAT SAYS THE PERSON WHICH WATCHED ALL GAMES OF VP SINCE 3 YEARS. I JUST DONT GET IT ANYMORE..... ITS NOT THE VP I USED TO LOVE. SAD BAD TRUE :(
