FACEIT Major quarter-final pairs determined

The quarter-final pairs of the FACEIT Major have been determined following MIBR's win over Ninjas in Pyjamas in the last match of the New Legends stage.

Day five saw the final three teams lock their spots in the New Champions stage. The fifth round began with HellRaisers up against fnatic, where the Swedes kicked off the series with a win on Mirage following a huge comeback from a 5-14 deficit.

However, Kyrylo "⁠ANGE1⁠" Karasiow & co. responded on Dust2 with a confident showing on the CT side before decimating the Swedish side 16-2 on Cache, with fnatic as an organization, as well as Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson as an individual, missing out on Major playoffs for the first time.

Astralis-FaZe clash headlines the quarter-final matchups

FaZe followed with their win over G2, who put up a great fight on the second map, Dust2, but ultimately fell after a triple-overtime battle.

In the last match of the New Legends stage, MIBR survived their map, Cache, after an overtime triumph, before Mirage went Ninjas in Pyjamas's way and it all came down to Train. There, the Brazilian-American squad locked down a 10-5 half as Terrorists and came out victorious at 16-11 to become the last playoffs team.

After MIBR rounded out the playoffs teams, the Buchholz seeding system determined the quarter-final matchups. The playoffs bracket looks as follows:

Thursday, September 20
16:15 - BIG vs. Natus Vincere
19:45 - Complexity vs. MIBR

Friday, September 21
17:15 - Liquid vs. HellRaisers
20:45 - Astralis vs. FaZe

Complexity vs mibr so at least one fluke team in the semis, nice Major.

Yeah? There's a big difference between big, navi and fnatic, g2. When you're at a major with that much pressure on you you want to trust on your igl 100%. When you're at 00:30 time left on a key round that will determine wether you get reset or not and your IGL tells you to rotate to the other side, you don't want to waste 4 seconds arguing with him, you want to be able to rely on him and trust that he will make the right call. NiKo won't be able to do this and he won't focus on the game well.

This is actually the only part I can agree with.. using that in playoff bracket makes sense but what it did to the rest of the tournament is garbage. It is GREAT for chess but it is cancer for CSGO because of the way CSGO can vary especially in BO1. Swiss system needs BO3, logical reseeding, or both. its mainly Bo1 fault, so weaker teams (BiG, CoL) got those preference spots. And we still have nice matchups like Faze vs Astralis and possible FazE/Astralis vs Liquid, just instead of Final it will be in quarter, semis.
