Cloud9 eye SEMPHIS as potential new coach

Cloud9 are weighing up the possibility of hiring Kory "⁠SEMPHIS⁠" Friesen as their new coach, Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta has told HLTV.org.

SEMPHIS is currently in Lisbon with the team for BLAST Pro Series as the players hope to evaluate whether he is the perfect fit to replace Soham "⁠valens⁠" Chowdhury.

The Canadian has not yet taken any in-game duties over from valens, who remains the coach for the time being and will only step down from the role once the team is "in a good place", according to autimatic.

"valens was not supposed to be our coach for this long of a period," autimatic told HLTV.org. "Right now, we are looking for a new coach to take over his place.

"I have played with SEMPHIS in the past, we are just testing things out, seeing how he meshes with the team and then everything will go from there.

"We are seeing if our personalities are good together, he is not really giving any input with ingame stuff, we are just seeing if we can work together."

SEMPHIS is currently inactive after being benched by Envy, whom he represented for less than a month. He is no stranger to Cloud9, having played for the organisation between August 2014 and April 2015, when he was released from the roster together with Shahzeb "⁠ShahZaM⁠" Khan.

Cloud9 will be attending BLAST Pro Series Lisbon with Ismail "⁠refrezh⁠" Ali as a stand-in as Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim is ruled out of the event due to medical reasons. In their first match of the tournament, the ELEAGUE Boston Major champions will be taking on MIBR, who will be fielding a stand-in themselves, former compLexity and iBUYPOWER star Braxton "⁠swag⁠" Pierce.
