Liquid finalise iBUYPOWER Masters team list

Liquid have secured the final invite to IBUYPOWER Masters 2019, the event's organisers have revealed.

The North American giants bring the team count to eight, joining three other sides currently in the top 10, Astralis (No.1), FaZe (No.6) and fnatic (No.9).

The event will mark the debut of Liquid's new roster, featuring Jake "Stewie2K" Yip as the new fifth player and Eric "adreN" Hoag as coach following the departures of Brazilian duo Epitacio "TACO" de Melo and Wilton "zews" Prado to MIBR.

Stewie2k will play his first event for Liquid this month

iBUYPOWER Masters 2019 will take place on January 19-20 at Avalon Theater Hollywood, in Los Angeles, with $200,000 on the line. The tournament will begin with a best-of-one double-elimination group stage, followed by a single-elimination, best-of-three playoff bracket.

The final team list for the event is the following:

Yeah. In the last 5 months, they were the team that almost were able to defeat Astralis on the grand final of two big events. They were not rekted as Liquid and Navi are used to.

Gonna be a good event. Time for teams to put their strats to work and to get a sense of where they stand in terms of skill after a long break. Tournaments of this type excite me more than premier tournaments at time (because of the break, especially). #ToTheStars

Is this considered a big event? I remember back in 2017 they didn't consider IEM Sydney a big event because the prize pool was 200k instead of at least 250, even with teams just as good as in this one, or am I wrong?

hltv.org/events/2713/iem-sydney-2017 This event had 3 clearly left out of the group of tier 1 teams but SK, FaZe, Astralis and OpTic/North were all inside the top 6 if not mistaken at that time. And apparently wasn't considered tier 1, or was it?
2019-01-04 23:24

it's actually the other way around. any 250k event is considered big by default, unless there's not enough top 10 teams. the only case where that happened was, to my knowledge, zotac cup. i've never seen an announcement that an event with less than 250k was bumped into the top category.
