Invites for IEM Sydney EU & NA closed qualifiers announced

ESL has revealed the invites for the European and North American closed qualifiers for IEM Sydney.

In both regions, the qualifying process will begin with two open qualifiers that will see the finalists progress to a closed bracket. The four qualified sides will be joined by four invitees to duke it out for the region's qualifying slot at IEM Sydney.

The open qualifiers will use the same format as before, with a best-of-one setting being used up until the decider matches, which will be best-of-three series.

North turn to IEM Sydney after being eliminated at the Minor Play-in

The first leg of open qualifiers will begin on Wednesday, with registration available until one hour before the start. The dates, time and signup links can be found below:

Europe

EU Open Qualifier 1 - January 30-31 | 18:00
EU Open Qualifier 2 - February 2-3 | 18:00

North America

NA Open Qualifier 1 - January 30-31 | 00:00
NA Open Qualifier 2 - February 2-3 | 00:00

As the world No.12, North are the highest-ranked team of the four European invitees. The Danish side will be desperate to make amends following their failure to qualify for the IEM Katowice Major.

The team list for the Europe closed qualifier currently looks as follows:

Germany BIG
Denmark North
Europe Open Qual. 1
Europe Open Qual. 2
Other HellRaisers
France G2
Europe Open Qual. 1
Europe Open Qual. 2

Across the pond, No.15 side Ghost headline the invite list for the North American closed qualifier alongside Luminosity, who currently round out the top 30 ranking.

The team list for the qualifier currently looks as follows:

United States Envy
North America Complexity
North America Open Qual. 1
North America Open Qual. 2
United States Ghost
Brazil Luminosity
North America Open Qual. 1
North America Open Qual. 2

Both closed qualifiers will be played on the same dates, February 6-8, with the format being a double-elimination, best-of-three bracket, with the final being played in a best-of-five setting.

+1. But I assume that they would not invite 2 french teams in the closed because it wouldn't be fair next to the other nations, so it was between G2, Vita and LDLC (so between G2 and Vita). I don't think that G2 would try to do the open qualifier if they were not invited, but Vita ofc will so they might did their choice based on this.

The organization hasn't been around for long however 4/5 players are veterans and some even have major wins. They have already showed potential by qualifying for the major qualifier. Based on this, it's not accurate to say they "have a long way to go". Also G2's current line up has only been around for a month or two longer than vitality so that's not a valid argument.

When you take my argument out of context like that then sure say whatever you want but I said “They’ve been around longer” the players had absolutely nothing to do with what I said. Nice one

I gave you the benefit of the doubt inferring that you were actually taking about the lineups. You are correct that the organization of G2 has been in csgo longer than Vitality in csgo. I fail to see how this is relavent because teams are awarded invites based on how well they are performing not how long an org has been in the scene.

You saw in the match G2 against Vitality that Zywoo couldn't handle with the awp against kennyS. Zywoo is better with rifles, pistoles... But kenny is much better with the awp.

Talking shit about g2? G2 have a Bootcamp since a month only because of the major. You saw on the matches before that the new g2 roster already fits together, they had no practise and they still got it to WESG World Finals and got 2nd in PLG grand slam. WITHOUT ANY PRACTISE. The g2 members already said that the Bootcamp is really succesful. Bodyy and Kenny said that they are ready for the major. I believe in g2 and they will succed. Btw gambit is trash
