fnatic secure final IEM Sydney invite

fnatic have received the final invite to IEM Sydney, ESL announced on Monday.

The Swedish side become the 13th team confirmed for the showpiece event, joining a list that is headlined by five top 10 sides, including Liquid, FaZe and MIBR.

Currently ranked 14th in the world, fnatic were last seen at the WESG World Finals, where they finished in fourth place after losing to AGO in the semi-finals and to G2 in the third-place decider, taking home $50,000.

fnatic will return to Sydney next month

Last year, fnatic finished in 5th-6th place in Sydney in what would turn out to be Jonas "⁠Lekr0⁠" Olofsson's final event for the team before he was replaced by Richard "⁠Xizt⁠" Landström in the starting line-up.

IEM Sydney will be held from April 30 through to May 5, culminating with the playoffs at the Qudos Bank Arena, where the winner of the grand prize of $100,000 will be determined. There are now just three spots left to fill, with the team list looking as follows:

Obviously they tried to invite those teams, but for some reasons teams declined invitation

NaVi and Vitality should have tried to come for one of these Tier 2.5 events they could maybe win (or Liquid is Tier 1.5 there, any other team is definitely beatable to them) G2 probably was deciding what would be their roster, keep bodyy, remove him, how to get AmaNEk, and such when invites were made. And ENCE definitely deserved one (maybe they declined before) but Fnatic getting invited a few weeks after ENCE's run at a Major (and Fnatic was awful at Major in the meantime)

+ Rn it would make sense to invite a team like G2, but at the time of qualifiers G2 looked absolute shit and you can't expect IEM to predict a roster change Vitality at the time was also relatively unproven (it was before the major)

Yeah i wanted to check when was the qualifier than BIG won, because since they have failed at the Major, and Vitality and especially G2 (G2 was disappointing still a few weeks ago with bodyy) but now they are improving a lot with AmaNEk Windigo definitely would deserve a spot as well.

kinda disappointing, must admit some of these EU teams need to get over this EU complex they have, for years NA and Asia teams have had to travel to Europe and jetlag wasnt an excuse but when its them they just say nah skipping cos jetlag. they are professionals right? i would understand if there was a major around the corner but there isn't. I know a lot of the other top 10 teams (ENCE, Astralis, Na’Vi etc) refused invites, but FNATIC have looked awful recently. I would’ve preferred they invited G2 (I know they played in the qualifier) or North or C9, just someone with a chance to do something. FNATIC are gonna get banged out my most teams here, even some of the Asian Teams.
