BLAST Pro Series Global Final to feature $500,000 prize pool

RFRSH Entertainment has revealed more details about the final event of the year, which will have $500,000 on the line.

The announcement brings the total prize pool for the year to $2.25 million as the event will bring the curtain down on the season after seven regular tournaments, each one with $250,000 on the line.

The BLAST Pro Series Global Final, to be held at an as-yet undisclosed location in December, will feature the four highest scoring teams according to a point system introduced by BLAST this year.

Astralis are currently leading the season standings

The event will feature a single-elimination, best-of-three format, with the winning side earning $350,000 and the title of BLAST Pro Series season champion.

Seven teams are confirmed for the season, and, according to RFRSH Entertainment, they "will each play 5 BLAST Pro Series tournaments". This means that Astralis, the team with the most trophies in BLAST history to date (three), will skip two of the four events that will be held after Madrid.

The seven teams confirmed for the season are:

Starting in Madrid, every BLAST Pro Series event will feature just five sides from this lot, who will be joined by either a wildcard team or the winner of a qualifier. The Spanish event has one slot open for an Iberian qualifier, featuring the likes of Movistar Riders and Giants.

This whole format confuses me. When the first blast was announced, it seemed just like a fun, 2 day tournament, with the 1v1s providing some non serious entertainment for both the players and the fans. Now they turn the whole thing into a legit tournament circuit with a championship tournament at the end? While still keeping the same super casual format? What?

I don't know for sure, but this format could be easier to sell to TV stations? Only bo3 and a bo5 final is too much for most mainstream channels.

I dont know. I feel if TV was the goal, they wouldve tried to partner with a network first and make a format that fit that schedule at that point, while using an actually good format in the meantime. To me it just seems like they are caught between being a casual, just for fun tournament and a serious tier1 tournament circuit that all of the top teams want to go to (which they cant because it is primarily invite only because it is a small, non serious format...) But RFRSH is danish correct? Have there been any rumblings on danish networks about a tv deal?

Because RFSH doesn't give a shit to improve the CS + owning a team and inviting them to your event + shit Bo1 formats + Shit finals format + making Astralis skip events because of Blast + inviting teams like C9, NiP, Mibr because of fans and not CS performance + 3 simultaneous games + shit aim battle. Yeah i am not a big fan of this format. But they are doing those things in one day so even if they change it, it will not be that much different but still thats ok, i still have fun with it and especially i am very grateful to them, to taking the CS to various countries which are not good with their esports organizations like Turkey, Spain.. (Denmark and US not included) So yeah, they are doing great work imo

Blast ProSeries is a fucking joke. Yeah let’s keep inviting the same fucking teams to every event when there’s only six teams that can be there. So in the end it’ll be the exact same teams it started off the year that will be in the finals. If you’re not a fan of one of the teams in the tournament, then these tournaments are shit to watch. Every time we know Astralis will win. Yet the same fucking teams are invited to every fucking blast tournament. Someone better fix their fucking format before next year or the viewership is going to rocket down

Blast doesn't give a shit to online viewers and the CS scene overall. As long as the arenas are stacked and the crowd its hyped its all good thats why they chose locations with passionate fans like Brazil, Turkey and Denmark. The shit format and short event makes the tournament cheap to run so they can maximize their profit.
