BIG unveil denis as nex takes break

BIG have announced that they have completed the signing of Denis "⁠denis⁠" Howell from Sprout.

The 24-year-old enters BIG's starting line-up with immediate effect as Johannes "⁠nex⁠" Maget is moved to a substitute position once again following a relapse of the wrist problem that saw him miss almost three months of action at the start of the year.

denis, one of the most experienced players in the German scene, with eight Major appearances, leaves Sprout after 18 months with the organisation, who entered CS:GO in December 2017 with the acquisition of the Seed roster.

denis replaces nex on BIG's roster

During his time with Sprout, denis attended ELEAGUE Major 2018 and picked up title wins at the ESL Meisterschaft Summer 2018 Finals and at DreamHack Leipzig WinterNational. His final appearance for the team came at the Good Game League 2019 qualifier in Olsztyn, where the Germans went out third-fourth.

It remains unclear when nex will be seen again. Since returning to the squad in February, as a replacement for Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield, he had averaged a 1.04 rating on LAN, raising eyebrows at the IEM Katowice Major and at IEM Sydney as BIG's top performer.

"Denis is clearly one of the most experienced and consistent players in Germany and has already played on a top level internationally," BIG CEO Daniel Finkler said in a statement. "We are happy to have found a player who can help us during the upcoming challenges with all his knowledge and energy he can bring to the team.

"While transfers and player changes in sports clubs happen on a daily basis, some of them are tough to make. The replacement of Johannes “nex” Maget is definitely one of those.

"As a founding member of BIG, Johannes not only helped us with his tremendous talent as a player, he also shaped the organization and our identity since our foundation. The whole BIG team will support him during the recovery phase and his upcoming competitive pause. I’m extremely thankful for all his efforts and all the unforgettable moments we shared so far.

denis, who will reunite with former mousesports teammate Fatih "⁠gob b⁠" Dayik in the team, will make his first appearance for BIG next week, in the second round of ESL Pro League Season 9 Europe. The German team will face HEROIC, Natus Vincere and North as they look to secure a spot at the offline finals, in Montpellier.

Denis is, was and always will be shittier. Back when he was in mouz him and Spidii were the lowest ratet players of all the top 20 teams if I recall correctly, I hate when people get picked up because they are "experienced" when they are basically just shit for a very long time. You cant compare draken to him cause draken proved to be a decent player in the past, denis has not.

Xizt wasn't fragging super well during any of those tournaments... he mostly acted as a support player, and got a couple nice clutch clips Notice he had a 1.03 average rating at the tournament you mentioned. Not playing badly, but nothing to write home about. Honestly denis isn't exactly a bad player to have on a team like BIG, but I'd see him as more of a support player, something a player like tiziaN could already do much better with the addition of more fragging power

+1 Sprout never was good on international events. I wondered why Spiidi and denis, who both are really experienced in top-class international teams, remained in that team. not really, they could easily form some team which would consistenly stay in top10 at least. some mix of big and sprout or even attax would do it. though the problem is that big players and/or management prefers to sign players they are "friends" with. they even stated that in some interview way back. they don't aim for the best possible line-up and thus the best achieving team, they don't aim for the best ranks like other teams do. and to be honest that's a shame, there really are some german players who deserve better.
