Immortals acquires OpTic's parent company; looks to divest Danish CS:GO team

Immortals Gaming Club (IGC) has announced the acquisition of Infinite Esports & Entertainment, the parent company of OpTic Gaming, leaving the future of the Danish CS:GO squad up in the air.

The deal, described by the IGC as "the largest change of control transaction in esports history," further expands the company's portfolio, which now encompasses four competitive brands: OpTic, MIBR, LA Valiant, and Immortals.

OpTic's Call of Duty World League team and League of Legends franchise will switch hands to the IGC, while the Overwatch League's Houston Outlaws franchise will be managed on an interim basis "as a distinct entity with its own dedicated staff, pending the sale of the franchise to a third party."

The future of the Danish team is up in the air

With the IGC already competing in CS:GO through MIBR, the company "will divest OpTic’s CS:GO team", who are currently ranked 33rd in the world.

The decision was widely expected as OpTic and MIBR would not be able to compete simultaneously in a number of premier events, including the Majors, due to the rules surrounding multiple team ownership.

On Twitter, Immortals Vice President Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen wrote that the company wants "to find the OpTic CS:GO team a new home as soon as we can", and is already in touch with Valve regarding the qualifiers for the StarLadder Major. OpTic are currently competing in the closed qualifier for the Europe Minor and will secure entry into the event if they beat Sprout later on Wednesday.

OpTic have had a Danish-majority line-up since February 2018, with Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke being the only player who still remains from that team. Since the start of the month, René "TeSeS" Madsen has been acting as a stand-in for the team, replacing Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, though an official announcement is yet to be made by the organisation.

OpTic currently have:

Denmark Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke
Denmark Ismail "refrezh" Ali
Denmark Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen
Denmark Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen
Denmark Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer
Denmark René "TeSeS" Madsen (stand-in)

Denmark Casper "ruggah" Due (coach)

To be fair mibr will always give you more money than optic, and it's a bigger investment when we talk about csgo, this buyout is about other games, it's unfortunate that it lets this optic gaming orgless.

They are already in OWL. They aren't Brazilian. This is for an LCS spot and the largest CoD esports brand in the world. An LCS spot as an aside is what has made teams like C9, Liquid and TSM the highest valued organizations in the world.

And an LCS spot. Which has made Cloud 9, TSM and Liquid the most valuable properties in esports. TSM literally the only esports organization in the world that is cash flow positive and C9 and Liquid aren't far behind.

IGC didn't made any mistakes on this one. The players of OpTic prob have very expensive contracts and won't be able to play the tournments they're in because of the same ownership rule. So the players will be in an urge to get a new ORG and some ORG definitelly will pick them... Like, they have a very good team and can be in the next major, so IGC will sell them at a high price
