NRG defeat Astralis; book semi-final spot at EPL Finals

NRG beat Astralis in three maps to secure their place in the semis, with the Danish team set to face the winner of MIBR vs. Liquid in the quarter-finals.

The upper-bracket final in Group A kicked off on Train where the T-sided NRG secured the first three rounds. Following a five-round Astralis run, NRG won a 3vs5 to get within one round of the Danes (5-4). Nicolai "device" Reedtz and company didn't let NRG equalize, attaining five of the last six rounds in the first half to finish it 10-5 ahead.

The second half began as the first one did, with the North Americans getting the first three rounds and Astralis winning the fourth one (11-8). The Danes moved themselves into a favorable position after taking the 22nd round with pistols as they extended their lead to 13-9.

daps reached the semis in his last event with NRG

NRG managed to close the gap and then went ahead thanks to Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov's AWP quad kill in the 27th round (14-13). The North American side closed out the game with a 16-13 final scoreline.

device and Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander opened up Nuke with a 2vs4 clutch to win the pistol round. device was unstoppable on offense as he won a 1vs4 in the seventh round and reached 19 kills within ten rounds (8-2). NRG were able to pick up the last three rounds of the half, trailing 10-5.

After NRG secured the first two rounds on the T-side, Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth clutched a 1vs2 to make it 11-7. The Danes conceded only one round afterwards, winning the map 16-8.

Astralis lost in three maps

Dust2 kicked off with the CT-sided NRG's pistol round triumph as CeRq got three kills. Tarik "tarik" Celik stopped the Danes with a triple kill in the first gun round, extending NRG's lead to 3-0. Astralis got on the scoreboard with Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen's two opening kills in the seventh round (6-1). The Danes then salvaged what they could, taking five of the last six rounds to trail 9-6 at halftime.

NRG reached double-digits after winning the second pistol round. The North Americans almost lost the following round but CeRq survived with 3 HP against Emil "Magisk" Reif to make it 11-6. Astralis came back from 12-6 and nearly tied the game but Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte clutched a 1vs2 to deny the Danish team (13-11).

NRG won an eco to make it 14-12 and wrapped it up with a 16-12 score to take the 2-1 series victory. With this result, NRG have made it to the semis while Astralis are through to the quarter-finals.

Losing rank 1 was due to skipping events. But losing to NRG is due to 1 NRG being good and 2 astralis being countered plus hard to maintain the level of play the put on display

Liquid struggled forreal against hellraisers. I don’t say astralis is the best atm, but top 5 CS right now is pretty damn even. An to be fair, more teams (all teams) play like astralis now, so they copied the best team in the world to be able to compete against the best team. Astralis changed the csgo scene. Liquid follow suit, so did ence, so did NRG. And just for a second, try and imagine how many hours of Astralis demos all the other teams have watched. Hard to continue the run, when all teams have watched all your plays and strats just to counter you.

Think we gonna have a "anybody can win" era. I don't see an Astralis team, that is gonna win straight for a year again. All 5 players peaked, had a fair share of luck and everything went their way play-calling wise. I didnt mean to call you out. I see alot of hate on Astralis, and it's not quite fair. They have worked their arses off, and deserve respect from the people who love the game - To us, what they have done, it's impressive.

Nah I always wanted blastralis to win until their era ended. Once I finally learned that they're denying invitations and stuff it just seems like they don't want to be #1. So if they don't wanna be the best I don't wanna support those who intentionally put in less effort just cause.

You are right, it was great to watch. I think dupreeh has looked really sad since his father pasted. But i too think it is sad, that they killed their own momentum, by simply not attending events. Got a little cocky. Remember Dupreeh bragging on winner stage about being the best in the world, like it was nothing. Dupreeh out b0Rup in, he sealed his own destiny.
